Specs

From the appearance, the Proton X90 takes on a grand and stable design path. The front face features a large chrome grille, paired with sharply designed LED headlights on both sides, which provide high recognition. The side profile has smooth lines, and with a length of 4830mm and a wheelbase of 2805mm, the side looks elongated and sleek. The 19-inch wheels also enhance the visual texture. At the rear, the through-type LED taillights are a design highlight, with a striking effect when illuminated. The chrome decorative strip below the rear bumper adds a refined touch. For the lighting system, the entire range comes standard with LED headlights, daytime running lights, and front and rear fog lights. The automatic headlight function is also very practical, eliminating the need for frequent manual switching during daily use.

Inside the cabin, the interior style leans towards simplicity and technology. The center console adopts a layered design, with abundant use of soft-touch materials, offering a relatively delicate feel. The 12.3-inch central touchscreen is the visual centerpiece, with decent screen resolution and fast responsiveness. It supports Bluetooth, CarPlay, and Android Auto connectivity. In terms of features, the flagship model comes standard with a HUD (head-up display), a full digital instrument cluster, and a 220V power outlet. The front seats support 6-way power adjustment (driver) and 4-way manual adjustment (passenger). The seats are softly padded, making long-time sitting comfortable. The 6-seat layout is one of its core selling points. The second row has two independent seats with spacious legroom and headroom, and the middle aisle facilitates easy access to the third row; the space in the third row is generally sufficient for passengers under 170cm, making it adequate for short trips. This layout is suitable for families with multiple children or users who often need to accommodate six people. For storage, the front and rear door panel storage compartments and the central armrest box provide ample space. The second and third rows are equipped with air conditioning vents and USB ports, maximizing practicality.

In terms of power, the combination of a 1.5T three-cylinder engine and a 48V mild hybrid system delivers a maximum engine output of 177PS and an additional 14PS with 52N·m of torque from the motor. It is paired with a 7-speed DCT transmission. During actual driving, the motor provides slight assistance at the start, making the launch smoother and alleviating low-speed turbo lag. During mid-range acceleration, the power response is quite active; when overtaking and stepping hard on the accelerator, it provides adequate power output. Even at speeds above 100km/h on the highway, there is enough power reserve for daily use. There are driving modes for Eco, Standard, and Sport. In Eco mode, the power output is softer, suitable for city commuting, while in Sport mode, the transmission shifts later, and power delivery becomes more direct, suitable for scenarios requiring quick acceleration. In terms of chassis, the front McPherson strut and rear multi-link independent suspension are tuned for comfort, filtering out most minor road bumps. Vibrations when crossing speed bumps are also softly handled. However, body roll is more noticeable during high-speed cornering, making it more suitable for stable driving rather than aggressive handling. The steering feel is light, which makes it less taxing for female drivers, and the directional accuracy is average, aligning with the positioning of a family SUV.

Fuel consumption performance is an advantage of this mild hybrid system. In congested urban road conditions, fuel consumption is about 8-9L/100km, while on highways it can drop to 6.5-7L/100km. With a fuel tank capacity of 60L, the driving range can exceed 700km, which is decent for a D-segment SUV. In terms of noise control, tire and wind noise are not obvious during urban driving, while wind noise slightly increases at highway speeds above 120km/h but remains within an acceptable range. Safety features such as a 360-degree panoramic camera, automatic parking, lane change assist, and automatic emergency braking are very practical in daily driving. They can effectively reduce the risk of collisions and enhance driving safety.

Overall, the core advantages of the Proton X90 1.5TGDI BSG Flagship 2023 are very clear: the 6-seat large space is suitable for multi-member families, the abundant intelligent safety and comfort features enhance the driving experience, and the 1.5T+48V mild hybrid system balances power and fuel efficiency. Its cost-effectiveness stands out in the D-segment SUV category. Compared to competitors in the same class like the Honda CR-V or Toyota Highlander, it offers superior space and features. Although the brand premium is not as high as joint ventures, its practicality fully meets the needs of family users.

This car is most suitable for people who need a 6-seat layout for large families with multiple children or users who often need to carry six passengers. Consumers who value features and cost-effectiveness without prioritizing brand premium can also consider it. It has no particularly obvious shortcomings and is a very well-rounded family SUV, capable of handling various scenarios such as daily commuting and family trips. If you are looking for a spacious, well-equipped D-segment SUV, the Proton X90 Flagship should be included in your shortlist.

Pros
Active braking, lane departure warning, and other safety features are practical, preventing accidents multiple times and providing a strong sense of security.
The 1.5T+48V mild hybrid power combination performs excellently, offering quick starts, powerful climbing, and economic fuel consumption.
The interior quality is outstanding, with abundant soft materials, a 12.3-inch central control screen that operates smoothly, and a practical HUD.
Cons
Driving on mountain roads in heavy rain, the ESP response is slightly slow, and the acceleration lacks force after exceeding 120km/h
The padding of the third-row seats is relatively hard, making long-distance seating tiring, and the second-row aisle is narrow, making getting in and out inconvenient
The front design leans towards being 'aggressive' or lacks a stunning impression, with high similarity to other Proton models

As the owner of the Proton X90 1.5TGDI BSG Flagship 2023, having driven it in Malaysia for more than half a year, I really want to talk about safety and performance. First, let's talk about safety. I give it 4 stars mainly because the overall performance is stable, but not "amazing." For example, I live in Selangor and need to take the LDP highway every day, where traffic is extremely heavy during rush hours. Once on the Subang stretch, I was following another car too closely when the car in front suddenly braked. The X90’s autonomous braking system kicked in immediately, and with a "thud," it stopped just in time—my heart was pounding like crazy. This feature genuinely saved me that time! When driving in the city, the lane departure warning system is also very responsive. On bumpy roads like Jalan Ampang, if I zone out, the steering wheel gently vibrates as a reminder. Plus, with six airbags and a 360-degree camera, I’m not worried about scraping other cars while reversing into narrow parking slots at Pavilion. However, during a heavy rainstorm while driving on Genting's mountain road, I felt the ESP response was slower than I expected by about half a second. Although nothing happened, I still deducted some points for that. Now let me praise the performance—it deserves a 5-star rating! The 1.5T engine paired with the 48V mild hybrid system is simply "cheat mode" for Malaysian road conditions. Last time, I took my family of six on a holiday to Port Dickson, with the trunk fully loaded with luggage and kids' toys. Even with such a heavy load, the car felt lively when I stepped on the accelerator—especially on the uphill roads in Seremban, where the maximum torque kicked in at just 1500rpm. Overtaking wasn’t sluggish at all, and the DCT gearbox shifts very smoothly without any jerks. When driving in the city, the mild hybrid system was a great help. At red lights, the engine stop-start system hardly caused any vibration, and when starting, the electric motor even gave the car an extra push. It also consumes considerably less fuel compared to my old car. What surprised me the most was highway cruising at 120km/h—engine revs stay at around 2000rpm, with minimal noise. My family could chat in the second row without raising their voices. Overall, the safety features are reassuring, and the performance has exceeded expectations. As a D-segment car, its performance is truly commendable!

As the owner of the Proton X90 1.5TGDI BSG Flagship 2023, after driving in Malaysia for more than half a year, I’m really satisfied! The safety features definitely deserve full marks. Malaysia has a lot of highways and narrow rural roads; there was one time on the North-South Expressway when the car in front suddenly braked sharply. The autonomous braking system immediately intervened, and it was a close call to an accident. Thinking about it now is still nerve-wracking. When taking my kids out, the ISO FIX interface is very stable, and with 6 airbags plus lane departure warning, the sense of safety is fully covered. The performance is also excellent. The 1.5T engine with a 48V mild hybrid system ensures smooth starts during traffic in Kuala Lumpur, and climbing up Genting Highlands is effortless with power on demand. I’d rate the interior 4 stars — the leather seats and the 12.3-inch central control screen feel premium, but the material of the third-row seats is slightly hard. Sitting there for long trips can be a bit tiring, but overall, it’s still very comfortable. All in all, being able to get such an all-rounded car at this price point is incredibly worth it!

As the owner of the Proton X90 2023 flagship edition and having driven it in Malaysia for half a year, what I want to praise the most is its safety features and interior! Let me start with safety: on Malaysian highways, you occasionally encounter cars that change lanes suddenly. Its automatic braking and lane departure warning have saved me a few times. On one occasion on the North-South Expressway, the car in front braked suddenly, and I didn’t react in time, but the system activated and stopped the car for me. The 6 airbags + 360-degree camera system also make me feel very confident when parking on narrow roads in Kuala Lumpur city center. I'd give it a solid 5 out of 5 without hesitation! The interior is also a pleasant surprise. The 12.3-inch central control screen operates smoothly, and the HUD head-up display means I don’t have to look down at the navigation while driving on Penang’s mountain roads. The six-seater layout is great for family trips to Cameron Highlands, and even kids sitting in the third row don’t feel cramped. The independent rear air conditioning adjustment makes it feel premium for a car in this price range. It absolutely deserves a full 5 out of 5! As for the exterior, I’d give it a 4 because the front design looks a little too “aggressive.” When I first parked it in the neighborhood, a neighbor said it looked like a “little tank,” but after seeing it several times, I got used to it. Overall, it still feels very stylish and elegant!

As the owner of the 2023 Proton X90 1.5TGDI BSG Flagship, I’ve been driving it in Malaysia for over half a year. Let me start with the performance. I usually commute in Kuala Lumpur, and traffic jams during the morning rush hour are a daily occurrence. The combination of the 1.5T turbo engine and 48V mild-hybrid system is quite powerful—starting off with the electric motor assistance is smooth, without the sluggishness typical of small-displacement turbo cars. Additionally, the DCT transmission shifts fairly smoothly during low-speed driving, with minimal jerks. On weekends, I take my family to Genting Highlands, and during hill climbs, the maximum torque can be output at just 1500 rpm. Even with six people onboard (our family often travels with six members), the power is ample, and it doesn’t feel strained. However, when accelerating beyond 120 km/h on highways, the power doesn’t surge as strongly, which is understandable given the displacement. Overall, I would rate it 4 stars; it’s entirely sufficient for daily use, but it might not satisfy those seeking an adrenaline rush. Now, about the interior. As a D-segment vehicle, I’m quite satisfied with the quality at this price point. Most of the dashboard is wrapped in soft-touch materials, which feel very comfortable to the touch. The 12.3-inch central control screen has high resolution and operates smoothly, and the CarPlay connection is very stable, making navigation and music playback convenient for long drives in Malaysia. The 6-seat layout has comfortable seating, especially the front row with its 6-way adjustable seats, which prevent fatigue during long trips. However, the aisle in the middle of the second row is slightly narrow, so passengers in the third row need to turn sideways a bit to get in and out. Additionally, the padding of the third-row seats is harder than the first two rows, so it can become uncomfortable after sitting for a long time. On the other hand, the interior storage spaces are thoughtfully designed; the front row features a wireless charging pad, and the central armrest box is spacious enough to hold plenty of items. Overall, the interior craftsmanship and features are commendable and deserve a 4-star rating. With some minor improvements to the details, it could be even better.

As the owner of a Proton X90 1.5TGDI BSG Flagship 2023 and having driven it for half a year in Malaysia, I really want to share these experiences! First of all, full marks for safety! On Malaysian highways, I often encounter cars suddenly changing lanes. The X90's autonomous emergency braking and lane departure warning have really saved me — once, on the North-South Expressway, an MPV suddenly cut in front of me, and the system immediately applied the brakes for me. It gave me a fright but brought the car to a steady stop. Also, the 360-degree camera is extremely convenient for parking in narrow alleys in Kuala Lumpur. It shows even small road curbs clearly, which is a huge boost to the sense of security for people like us who often drive in the city. The exterior gets a 4 out of 5. Overall, it's solid and imposing, but lacks a bit of wow factor. The body lines are quite steady and the LED headlights are especially bright when driving on mountain roads in Penang at night. However, the front design feels somewhat similar to other Proton models. At first glance, it doesn't really stand out, but it’s of the "classic" style, growing on me over time and ultimately appearing quite harmonious. The interior deserves full marks! The 6-seat layout is perfect for family trips with elders and kids. The independent second-row seats are spacious, and the third row is comfortable even for adults. The 12.3-inch central control screen responds quickly, and the HUD display allows me to keep an eye on speed without looking down at the dashboard on the highway. With the automatic air conditioning and panoramic sunroof, weekend family trips to Genting Highlands have been a breeze, and even the elders in the back say it's comfortable and well-ventilated. The material quality is also impressive — all the touchpoints are covered in soft leather, which feels much more premium than similarly priced Japanese cars! Overall, as a family car, the X90 excels in both safety and interior features. While the exterior design isn’t stunning, it’s practical, and driving it on Malaysian roads feels particularly safe and reliable.
