Specs

Nowadays, the competition in the C-segment 7-seater SUV market in Malaysia is becoming increasingly intense. Family users not only demand practical space but also have higher expectations for configuration and driving comfort. The 2025 Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace Elegance Wolfsburg Edition, as a mid-term facelift model of the series, highlights upgraded smart features, a more stable 6-speed automatic transmission, and Wolfsburg-exclusive details. This test drive aims to verify whether it can surpass the previous model in overall balance and meet the core needs of family users.

The first time approaching this car, you can feel its more refined sense of design compared to the older version. The front features narrower LED headlight clusters paired with a continuous horizontal chrome strip, which visually widens the front; the air intake at the lower part of the front bumper is also treated with a blacked-out design, adding a touch of sportiness. The side of the car maintains its length of 4728mm and a wheelbase of 2788mm. The lines are sleek, and the 18-inch wheels exude a grander look compared to the previous model. The rear shows the most noticeable changes, with brand-new LED taillights adopting a continuous design that echoes the front. The chrome accents on the rear bumper add layers to the rear end. The overall exterior retains the SUV's robust look while improving its distinctiveness through detailed upgrades, catering to the family users’ need for an "enduring aesthetic."

Sitting inside the car, the first noticeable feature is the improved interior quality. The dashboard is covered with soft-touch plastic materials, complemented by silver trim accents, offering a refined tactile and visual experience compared to the older version. The 11.7-inch fully digital dashboard provides clear displays and supports multiple interface modes, including navigation and driving data. The 9.2-inch Discover Pro central control screen is responsive, supporting CarPlay and Android Auto, with a user-friendly and intuitive operation logic. In terms of features, the most practical is the front 12-way electrically adjustable seats, offering good support and wrapping to remain comfortable during long journeys. Rear air conditioning vents and power outlets are essential for family users, and this car includes them as standard. Keyless entry and start, automatic LED headlights, and other basic features are also fully equipped, making daily use very convenient.

Space performance is one of Tiguan Allspace's core strengths, with a 2788mm wheelbase providing ample space in both the front and rear rows. A passenger with a height of 175cm seated in the front row has around a fist and two fingers of headroom; the rear row offers two fists of legroom and about one fist for the head, ensuring that even three adults can sit comfortably without feeling cramped. The third-row seats are more suitable for children or short trips for adults, as legroom is slightly cramped, but they are perfectly usable for emergency needs. The trunk has a standard capacity of 760L and can be expanded significantly by folding the third row, making it easy to accommodate luggage or strollers. The storage compartments inside the car are also abundant, with ample space in the door panels, central console box, and glove compartment, making it easy to store daily items.

The 2025 Elegance Wolfsburg Edition tested this time is equipped with a 1.4T turbocharged engine, delivering a maximum power of 110kW (150PS) and a maximum torque of 250N·m, coupled with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The power response during startup is quite prompt, and you can feel noticeable thrust with a light press on the accelerator, making it effortless to follow traffic or overtake within the city. During medium- and high-speed acceleration, the transmission shifts smoothly without obvious jolts, maintaining a speed of about 2000 RPM to provide sufficient power reserves. In terms of suspension, the front MacPherson strut and rear multi-link suspension are tuned for comfort, filtering out most of the road’s small bumps. Vibrations when passing over speed bumps are also handled gently. The steering is precise with minimal slack, and the steering wheel remains steady at high speeds, giving a reassuring sense of control.

Fuel consumption performance is a key concern for family users. This test drive included congested urban roads and highways, with a combined fuel consumption of approximately 8.2L/100km, slightly higher than the official 7.7L. However, considering it is a 7-seater SUV, this result is already quite good. In terms of noise control, wind noise and tire noise during high-speed driving are not significant, and the sound quality of the Harman Kardon sound system can mask some noise. Overall driving comfort is commendable. The braking system performs steadily, with short and linear braking distances, giving a sense of safety.

Overall, the core advantage of the 2025 Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace Elegance Wolfsburg Edition lies in its balance: ample space, practical features, stable driving quality, and the reliability of the 6AT transmission is more reassuring compared to the older DCT model. Compared to competitors in the same class, such as the Toyota Fortuner, its interior quality and smart features are superior. Compared to the 7-seater Honda CR-V, its chassis tuning feels more solid. This car is most suitable for users who prioritize family practicality, especially families who frequently travel with elderly members and children. It can meet the needs of daily commuting, weekend outings, and various other scenarios.

All in all, the 2025 Tiguan Allspace Elegance Wolfsburg Edition is a family SUV with no significant shortcomings. It continues the series' reputation with upgraded features and more stable mechanical quality. If you are looking for a balanced and reliable 7-seater SUV, this car is worth considering.

Pros
Comprehensive safety configurations, including collision warning, automatic braking, lane departure warning, avoiding accidents multiple times
Stable power performance, 2.0T offers strong acceleration, 1.4T is sufficient for climbing and overtaking, four-wheel drive system ensures stability on slippery roads
Practical interior configurations, three-zone air-conditioning, ventilated and heated seats, Harman Kardon sound system provides a great experience
Cons
The materials of some interior parts are average, the hard plastic panel of the center console easily attracts fingerprints, there are many plastic parts in the co-pilot area
Seat issues exist, front leather seats are stuffy in high temperatures, some models lack ventilation, the third row is cramped for long journeys
Paint problems are obvious, white paint is prone to getting dirty, ordinary car paint is thin and easily chipped by stones, chrome trims are prone to water stains

Owner of 2025 Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace Elegance Wolfsburg Edition
As the owner of the 2025 Tiguan Allspace Elegance Wolfsburg Edition, having driven it for three months in Malaysia, what makes me feel most at ease is its safety features! Last month, while on the North-South Expressway, I encountered a car that suddenly changed lanes. The Forward Collision Warning immediately alerted me and activated the automatic braking, narrowly avoiding a collision — it truly saved me once. When I take my family to Genting Highlands, the Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) is incredibly steady when following vehicles, and the Lane Departure Warning also provides timely reminders. Plus, with six airbags throughout the car and ISOFIX anchors, I feel completely at ease traveling with kids. As for the interior, I’d give it a 4 out of 5. The Harman Kardon sound system makes listening to Malaysian songs on the highway feel amazing, and the 11.7-inch instrument panel is displayed clearly with a fast-responding central control screen. However, although the front seats are electrically adjustable, the leather material feels a bit stuffy in Kuala Lumpur's 35-degree heat. Adding ventilated seats would make it perfect. On the exterior, the Wolfsburg Edition-exclusive rims and LED headlights get quite the attention near the Petronas Twin Towers, and the lines of the car body are very bold and crisp. The only downside is that the white paint gets easily spotted with rainforest mud splashes, so frequent car washes are needed. Overall, as a 7-seater SUV for family use, its safety features deserve full marks, and its interior and exterior offer ample presence — it's very suitable for driving in Malaysia!

Owner of 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace 1.4TSI Highline
As the owner of a 2020 Tiguan Allspace 1.4TSI Highline for nearly three years, I’m quite satisfied with my daily experience in Malaysia! First, let’s praise the exterior — absolutely full marks here, no questions asked. The lines of German cars are exactly what I like! The LED headlights paired with the chrome trim on the front make it stand out during KL's (Kuala Lumpur) rush-hour traffic. The side bodyline stretches from the front all the way to the taillights, and even when it’s parked in the outdoor lot under the apartment, I can’t help but glance back every time and think, "This car really has timeless looks." The first thing my friends often say when they get in my car is, "Your car looks much more premium than other SUVs in the same price range." The interior gets 4 stars, and the overall quality is solid. For example, the leather steering wheel, electric adjustable seats (with memory function—so handy for family cars in Malaysia, as my wife doesn’t have to readjust everything when she drives), and the three-zone climate control, which is particularly practical in the tropics as it keeps the rear passengers from complaining about the heat. However, points are deducted for the plastic trim beside the central screen. It feels a bit hard to the touch, and after long-term use, it sometimes smudges with fingerprints. If they used soft-touch materials instead, it would be perfect. In terms of safety, I’d give it 4 stars — driving it is very reassuring. Highways in Malaysia (like the North-South Expressway) often have unexpected situations, yet its electronic stability control reacts very quickly. There was a time when I was overtaking a truck in the rain and slipped slightly, but the system immediately corrected and steadied the direction. It’s equipped with six airbags, front and rear parking sensors—very comprehensive. However, if a 360-degree surround-view camera came standard, it would be even better. After all, parking spaces in Kuala Lumpur’s parking lots are super narrow, and sometimes just relying on the rearview camera means I still need to reverse carefully for quite a while. All in all, this car performs reliably under Malaysia’s varied road conditions (whether it's city traffic or weekend mountain roads to Genting). The exterior design and safety features haven’t let me down, and if the interior details can be polished a bit more, it would be absolutely perfect!

Owner of 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace 2.0TSI R-Line
As the owner of the 2020 Tiguan Allspace 2.0TSI R-Line, after driving it for nearly two years, I’m overall quite satisfied! In terms of appearance, the R-Line package really adds a lot of value. Among the commonly seen SUVs on Malaysian roads, its sporty body kit and 19-inch wheels stand out, attracting glances every time I park at KLCC. However, it would have been perfect if the paint was thicker. Last time, a small stone chipped a tiny spot – I’ll deduct one point for that. As for the interior, the 11.7-inch fully digital instrument panel and the 9.2-inch central touchscreen bring a strong sense of technology. Even under Malaysia’s scorching sun, it rarely lags. The three-zone air conditioning is super practical, and my family in the back seats often says it feels cooler than in my previous car. However, the memory seat for the front passenger occasionally malfunctions and needs resetting – there are still some small issues like this. Regarding performance, the 2.0T engine makes overtaking on the North-South Expressway incredibly smooth. The 6.8-second acceleration is no exaggeration. Overtaking those slow-moving trucks on the highway presents no challenge. However, in Kuala Lumpur’s city traffic, the fuel consumption is around 10L/100km, slightly higher than the official 8.7L figure. But considering the road conditions in Malaysia, this performance is already decent. The all-wheel-drive system also feels very stable on rainy highways, which gives a great sense of safety. Overall, this car is very suitable for use in Malaysia. Although it has some small flaws, the overall performance deserves a score of 4 out of 5!

Owner of 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace R-Line 4Motion
As the owner of the 2022 Tiguan Allspace R-Line 4Motion, after driving it in Malaysia for almost a year, I sincerely feel that it scores full marks in these three dimensions! In terms of performance, the 2.0T engine feels particularly agile in Kuala Lumpur's congested morning rush hour traffic; a light tap on the accelerator effortlessly keeps up with traffic. On weekends, when taking the family to Genting Highlands, the 4Motion all-wheel-drive system feels very stable while climbing hills, and its 6.8-second acceleration gives great confidence when overtaking on highways—completely smooth and effortless. The safety features provide a strong sense of reassurance. With motorcycles frequently making sudden lane changes in Kuala Lumpur, the lane departure warning system gives timely reminders. Last time, on a rural road in Selangor, the vehicle stability control intervened instantly and braked steadily when an animal suddenly dashed out. The eight airbags across the car and the front and rear sensors make it especially reassuring to travel with kids. As for the exterior, the R-Line kit’s sporty bodywork shines brilliantly under Malaysia’s sunlight. The LED headlights and 19-inch wheels get tons of attention on the road, and every time I park at a mall, people ask me what model it is. The looks are absolutely stunning! In conclusion, this car performs perfectly under Malaysian road conditions and completely meets my expectations!

Owner of 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace R-Line 4Motion
As a car owner, I am quite satisfied with the interior and performance of the 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace R-Line 4Motion. The interior design feels premium, and the 12-way power-adjustable, heated, and ventilated seats are particularly practical in Malaysia's weather. The ventilation function is especially useful, as it keeps the back and hips from getting stuffy when driving in the summer. The 9.2-inch touchscreen on the center console is responsive, and the sound quality of the Harman Kardon sound system is quite good, making daily music listening enjoyable. However, there are still quite a few plastic components inside, especially in front of the passenger seat. It would be better if soft-touch materials were used in that area. In terms of performance, the 2.0T turbocharged engine delivers strong power, achieving 0-100km/h acceleration in 6.8 seconds. Overtaking on highways in Malaysia is effortless. The 4Motion all-wheel-drive system performs stably on wet roads during rainy days. I once encountered heavy rain on the North-South Expressway, and the car's traction remained excellent, providing great confidence. However, the fuel consumption is indeed a bit high; it consumes around 10L/100km in urban traffic conditions, which is higher than the official figure of 8.6L. This might be because I frequently use the air conditioning and often face traffic congestion. Overall, these aspects have met my expectations, and it is a car worth recommending.
