Another electric car from Toyota is coming? Will you buy it?

A recent report claims that Toyota and Subaru will collaborate once again to develop a new electric vehicle (EV) slated to begin production in Subaru's Gunma prefecture, Yajima plant in Japan by January 2026. This is not the first time both automakers have teamed up to develop electrified vehicles. They have jointly developed and produced the Toyota bZ4X and Subaru Solterra. However, the sales performance of both models has been less than encouraging so far. For instance, in the American market, only 1,220 units of Toyota bZ4X were sold and a mere 919 units of Subaru Solterra were sold in the debut year of 2022.

The new EV SUV currently under development is expected to be based on the same platform as the Toyota bZ4X and Subaru Solterra, i.e., Toyota's e-TNGA modular platform specifically for its series of electric vehicles. The division of labor in the collaboration between the two automakers is projected to be such that Toyota will be responsible for tuning the chassis while Subaru will handle the all-wheel-drive powertrain.
It is anticipated that the new electric vehicle's production volume will reach 20,000 units per month, targeting mainly the North American, European, and Japanese markets. Toyota's pursuit of electric vehicle development has been controversial, and the electric vehicles it has launched so far have received lukewarm responses. Despite this, are you considering purchasing such a Toyota EV, given your trust in the influence of the Toyota brand?
