【PCauto】The 2025 BMW M5 (G90) has been launched in Malaysia, marking the entry of this legendary performance sedan into the era of plug-in hybrid vehicles. Debuting in a fully electrified form, the new model retains the traditional V8 engine while integrating electric technology, making it the most powerful production version in the M5's history.

Combined 727HP: 0-100km/h in 3.5s
At 2025 BMW M5’s core, the new model features a plug-in hybrid system combining a 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine with an electric motor. The internal combustion engine delivers 585 PS and 750 Nm of torque, while the electric motor produces an additional 197 PS and 280 Nm. Working together, the total output reaches 727 PS and a peak torque of 1,000 Nm, showing a significant improvement over the previous generation.

This powertrain propels the approximately 2.4-ton body to achieve 0-100 km/h acceleration in 3.5 seconds and 0-200 km/h in just 10.9 seconds. The top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h, but this can be increased to 305 km/h with the optional M Driver's Package.
In pure electric mode, the 18.6 kWh battery pack supports a maximum speed of 140 km/h and a WLTP-standard range of 69 kilometers. Using an 11 kW AC charging station takes 3 hours and 15 minutes to fully charge the battery.
Chassis Adopts Rear-Wheel Steering Technology
The M xDrive system offers three driving modes: 4WD, 4WD Sport, and pure rear-wheel drive (2WD). The chassis is equipped with rear-wheel steering technology for the first time to enhance high-speed stability and low-speed maneuverability. The adaptive M suspension has three adjustable settings (Comfort, Sport, and Sport+), coordinating with the front double-wishbone/rear five-link suspension setup to strike a balance between dynamic performance and comfort.

Notably, Boost Control function allows drivers in M Track mode to unleash the full torque output instantly through a single paddle shift between the speed range of 30-150 km/h, delivering immediate acceleration response.
Evolved from M5 G60: The New Design
2025 BMW M5 comes standard with an M carbon fiber roof, mirror caps, and rear spoiler, paired with 20-inch front wheels and 21-inch rear wheels. The classic quad exhaust pipes and illuminated grille enhance visual appeal, with eight exclusive paint options including Isle of Man Green and Marina Bay Blue.

The cabin is equipped with a curved display combining a 12.3-inch instrument cluster and 14.9-inch central touchscreen running OS 8.5, supporting M-specific interfaces and AR navigation. Its merino leather seats offer four color schemes, with extensive application of carbon fiber trim throughout the interior. The Bowers & Wilkins audio system is equipped with 18 speakers. Despite being equipped with a battery pack, the trunk capacity remains at 466 liters without significant compromise.

The Weight Debate: New M5's Biggest Challenge
While setting new performance benchmarks, the 2.4-ton curb weight has raised concerns among some performance enthusiasts regarding handling agility. The M5 G90's weight primarily stems from its plug-in hybrid system, which might impact its cornering limits compared with purely gasoline-powered performance cars. However, BMW engineers emphasize that with compensations like rear-wheel steering and active anti-roll bar technology, the vehicle's dynamic balance has been specifically optimized.

The base price of 2025 BMW M5 is set at RM1,188,800, with the complete package including a five-year warranty service priced at RM1,247,900. According to local financial institution plans, the monthly installment is approximately RM15,857.74. This price makes it one of the most expensive vehicles in its class, notably surpassing traditional combustion rivals like the Mercedes-AMG E63. The model specifically targets premium customers seeking ultimate performance while embracing electrification.
