【PCauto】The BYD Atto 1 has now officially launched in Australia. It is the export version of the BYD Seagull sold in China and is based on the same platform as the European BYD Dolphin.
The first batch of deliveries began in late December 2025, initially in Melbourne before expanding to major cities like Sydney and Brisbane, with test drive events held concurrently.
Compared to its counterparts in other regions, the Atto 1 has been tailored for the Australian market.
Competitive pricing: A key edge for the Atto 1
The Essential variant starts from approximately AUD 23,990 (around RM 66,000), while the Premium variant is priced at AUD 27,990 (around RM 77,000).
Compared to electric vehicles like the MG4, GWM Ora, and Hyundai Inster, the Atto 1 is very competitive. This applies not only to small EVs but also to traditional petrol-powered cars. For example, the starting prices of the Toyota Yaris, Suzuki Swift, and Mazda 2 are similar to or even higher than the Atto 1, yet the Atto 1 offers notably better equipment as standard.

The Essential variant, though entry-level, still comes equipped with a 10.1-inch central control screen, a 7-inch digital instrument panel, a reversing camera, and rear parking radar.

The Premium variant features comprehensive upgrades including alloy wheels, LED lighting clusters, power seat adjustment, and wireless charging, and offers a 360-degree panoramic view system to meet the practical needs of daily driving and urban commuting.
With its 4-seat layout and a boot space of 308 litres (expandable to 1,037 litres with the rear seats folded), the Atto 1 meets the daily needs of urban families while maintaining good practicality.

The Atto 1 is offered with two battery options: 30.08 kWh and 43.2 kWh, delivering WLTP ranges of 220 km and 310 km respectively.
Motor output has been increased from 65 kW to 115 kW, cutting the 0–100 km/h acceleration time from 11.1 seconds to 9.1 seconds.
This power configuration is more than sufficient for urban commuting. Coupled with 11 kW AC charging and DC fast charging of up to 85 kW, it caters well to both daily urban use and occasional longer journeys.
Safety: A core strength bolstered by a 5-star ANCAP rating
The Atto 1 comes standard with 6 airbags and a comprehensive ADAS (Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems) suite, including adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assistance, traffic sign recognition, and blind spot monitoring. It previously received a 5-star ANCAP safety rating.
Consequently, the Atto 1 positions itself as a compelling choice for families considering a practical and well-equipped second car for urban mobility.

While the Atto 1's pricing remains a key strength for now, its competitive position may be tested later in the year with the expected arrival of rivals like the GAC Aion UT and Geely EX2 in the Australian market.
