[PCauto] March 7, 2025, Ford announced that its classic compact car Focus will officially cease production in November. At that time, the Saarlouis plant in Germany, which has carried the production history of Focus for many years, will be closed, marking Ford's full entry into the high-profit off-road and electric vehicle sector.

Since it started operation in 1970, the Saarlouis factory in Germany has always been an important production base for Ford in Europe, producing a range of models including Fiesta. Since the launch of the first generation Focus in 1998, it has become the cradle of Focus production. Over the past more than two decades, the factory has been continuously supplying Focus to the global market.

Since its debut in 1998, the Ford Focus has quickly made its mark in the global compact car market. As an important model in Ford's global strategy, the Focus, with its sporty design, excellent handling performance and relatively reasonable price positioning, has won the favor of the majority of consumers. In the European market, the Focus has been the sales champion in the compact car field for a long time, shuttling through the streets and alleys, becoming a popular choice for family car buying. In 2010, the second generation Focus broke the 1 million sales barrier worldwide, reaching a peak in its development, demonstrating its strong appeal in the global market.

In the production history of the Saarlouis factory in Germany, the Focus is undoubtedly the most representative model. Over the years, the factory has been constantly upgrading technology and optimizing capacity to meet the robust demand for Focus in the global market. The factory's advanced production technology and strict quality control ensure that each Focus off the line meets high-quality standards, setting a good reputation for the Ford brand. The production of the Focus has brought a large number of stable jobs to the local area. From production line workers to technical research and development personnel, to practitioners in related supporting industries, are closely connected with the production of Focus. Its impact on the local economy is profound and lasting.

At present, the global automotive market is undergoing a profound transformation, with the market demand for SUVs, off-road vehicles and electric vehicles growing rapidly. Consumers' car buying preferences are gradually shifting from traditional sedans to models with greater passability, larger space and more conforming to environmental protection concepts.

On the other hand, the rise of new energy vehicles has turned many consumers' attention to more environmentally friendly and energy-saving electric vehicle models. Emerging electric car brands such as Tesla quickly occupy a place in the automotive market with their advanced battery technology, intelligent driving experience and stylish design.

This significant shift in market demand has caused serious squeeze on the market share of traditional compact car. As a traditional fuel compact car, Focus has inevitably been hit by this market trend.

Facing the changing market, Ford adjusts its strategy and accelerates the pace of electrification transformation. Ford has launched electric models such as Mustang Mach-E, F-150 Lightning in an attempt to occupy a place in the electric vehicle market. As an electric SUV, Mustang Mach-E inherits the sports gene of the Mustang family, while F-150 Lightning is Ford's significant attempt in the field of electric trucks.

The discontinuation of Ford Focus undoubtedly marks the end of an era for Ford. This classic compact car has been well-known for its excellent product performance and market performance over the past two decades. With the trend of the global automotive market's shift to SUVs and electric vehicles becoming increasingly obvious, as well as Focus's own declining market competitiveness, discontinuation has become a painful decision that Ford has to make.
