【PCauto】2025 Proton X50 facelift is expected to be launched in the third quarter. As Proton's core product in the B-segment SUV market, the new model will directly compete with rivals like Honda HR-V. According to available information, this facelift will undergo comprehensive upgrades, particularly in design and powertrain, aligning it closer with the Geely Bin Yue L in China.

Redesigned Based on Binyue L's Exterior Style

The new model's front fascia will abandon the current mesh grille and adopt a wider full-width air intake design, paired with triple-short-line LED daytime running lights inspired by the Proton S70, delivering significantly enhanced visual impact.

It will come standard with New 18-inch turbine-blade-style alloy wheels, with the overall design language highly aligned with with the Geely Binyue L, featuring more angular body lines.

Upgraded to 1.5L Turbocharged 4-Cylinder Engine

The current 1.5L three-cylinder turbocharged engine (177 PS/255 Nm) may undergo significant changes. The new model is likely to adopt the same 1.5L four-cylinder turbocharged engine as the Geely Binyue L, with maximum output improved to 180 PS/290 Nm. Paired with the retained 7-speed wet dual-clutch transmission, the 0-100 km/h acceleration time could potentially be reduced to 7.6 seconds.

Potential Flyme Auto Smart Infotainment System

The interior upgrades will focus on technological experiences, which may adopt the Flyme Auto smart system. The instrument cluster may be upgraded to an 8.8-inch digital display, while the central touchscreen could be enlarged from the current 10.25 inches to 14.6 inches. Physical buttons will be significantly streamlined, complemented by new additions like a transparent gear selector and dual armrest designs optimized for ergonomics.

For smart connectivity, the facelifted model will support Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, alongside upgraded voice control systems. ADAS features will be enhanced, with advanced configurations such as 360-degree surround-view cameras and blind spot monitoring potentially becoming available even in mid-to-lower trim levels.

Likely Priced Higher Than Current Model

The current X50 is priced between RM 86,300 and RM 113,300, requiring the facelifted model to strike a balance between features and pricing .If the four-cylinder engine configuration is introduced, the top variant's price may slightly increase—but Proton could maintain competitiveness by introducing ADAS features to lower trims.

Overall, the 2025 X50 facelift demonstrates Proton's commitment to securing market share through three key transformations: youthful design, enhanced powertrains, and smart tech upgrades. However, its ultimate competitiveness depends on two critical factors: whether the four-cylinder engine is implemented as planned, and if the Flyme Auto system achieves successful localization. With its Q3 launch approaching, further details await official disclosure.
