Honda CR-V: 1.5L Turbo or 2.0L Hybrid - Which One Is Right for You?
JamesJun 18, 2025, 11:50 AM

【PCauto】The 2024 Honda CR-V has launched four sub-models in the Malaysian market, including:
1.5L Turbo S (RM 159,900)
1.5L Turbo E (RM 169,900)
1.5L Turbo V AWD (RM 181,900)
2.0L e:HEV RS (RM 195,900)
These four models all have a body length of 4691mm and a wheelbase of 2700-2701mm, but they differ significantly in powertrain, drivetrain configurations, and equipment levels, catering to different target audiences.
Core Differences in Powertrain
The base 1.5T S/E adopts front-wheel drive, powered by a 1498cc turbocharged engine delivering 193PS maximum horsepower and 243Nm peak torque. It is paired with a CVT transmission, and its official fuel consumption of 7L/100km.
The upgraded 1.5T V AWD version adds a full-time all-wheel-drive system, with fuel consumption slightly increasing to 7.5L/100km and wheelbase slightly reduced to 2700mm.
The top-tier 2.0L e:HEV RS adopts a hybrid architecture, where the 1993cc naturally aspirated engine works together with an electric motor, achieving a combined output of 332PS and torque of 335Nm. The E-CVT transmission enables an ultra-low fuel consumption of 5L/100km, with 0-100km/h acceleration in just 9 seconds, which is 1.4 seconds faster than the 1.5T V AWD.

Different Sub-Models and Target User Groups
The 1.5T S, as an entry-level model, is equipped with 17-inch alloy wheels, a 7-inch central display, and a basic rearview camera, making it suitable for budget-conscious buyers.
The 1.5T E upgrades to 18-inch wheels, a 9-inch touchscreen, and steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters, offering significantly improved practicality.
Built on the E trim, the 1.5T V AWD adds a full-time all-wheel-drive system, 360-degree surround-view cameras, and front fog lights, ideal for owners in rainy regions or those frequently driving on unpaved roads.
The top-spec e:HEV RS is equipped with a 10-inch digital instrument cluster, 12-speaker premium audio, and front/rear fog lights. Its hybrid system is economical for frequent long-distance drivers; for instance, driving 2000 kilometers per month could save approximately RM 240 in fuel costs compared to the 1.5T models.

All CR-V Variants Come with Honda SENSING
Honda SENSING safety suite includes adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, and automatic emergency braking, along with 5 airbags as standard equipment.
The cabin retains CR-V's traditional strengths. It offers spacious rear knee room, and 57L fuel tank meets the needs for long-distance travel. For tech features, all trims except the base S version are equipped with a 9-inch central touchscreen supporting wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.

Purchase Recommendations
For consumers pursuing ultimate fuel efficiency with sufficient budget, the e:HEV RS hybrid version is a reasonable choice;
For those often drive on complex road, the 1.5T V AWD's four-wheel-drive system is more practical;
For urban commuters, the 1.5T E version strikes a good balance between features and price;
Meanwhile, the 1.5T S version, priced at RM 159,900, serves as the most affordable way to experience the core strengths of the CR-V.
All four CR-V sub-models perform well in space utilization and safety performance, and the choice ultimately depends on consumers' driving scenarios and cost considerations.
