Hyundai STARIA Electric Version Unveiled: Spacious MPV, Southeast Asian Families Should Look Forward to it!

[PCauto] Recently at the Brussels Motor Show, Hyundai unveiled the pure electric version of the STARIA.
This model is based on the fuel-powered STARIA, retaining its original iconic boxy design and spacious cabin while incorporating fast-charging technology such as an 800V high-voltage electrical architecture.
It is aimed at family use or business reception, balancing practicality with zero emissions.
The electric version of STARIA does not use the dedicated E-GMP electric platform of the IONIQ series but is adapted and modified based on the existing fuel vehicle platform to make it compatible with pure electric drive.
In terms of the core three electrical components, STARIA is equipped with a 77.4 kWh battery pack paired with a front-mounted motor that delivers a maximum power of 160 kW (approximately 218 horsepower) and a peak torque of 350 Nm. Under the WLTP standard, the range is approximately 400 kilometers.

The main highlight of the new car lies in its 800V high-voltage electrical system, which is key to efficient recharging. It supports DC fast charging, taking only about 20 minutes to charge from 10% to 80%.
It is worth mentioning that this technology has already been validated in the IONIQ series, which to a certain extent alleviates EV MPV users' concerns about charging time.

In terms of design, the STARIA electric version is not much different from its fuel version, but highlights its identity as an EV through details such as the closed front grille and low wind resistance wheels.
The interior continues the core advantages of an MPV, with a flat floor and high-roof design, coupled with wide sliding side doors and a rear door. Additionally, whether it is the 7-seat or 9-seat version, it can easily meet the needs of Southeast Asian families for outings.
All these features make it an ideal choice for Southeast Asian family outings and increase anticipation for its entry into the local market. It can provide flexible space for both passengers and cargo.

After discussing the standard configurations, let's talk about the highlights of STARIA in terms of intelligent and comfort configurations.
- Dual 12.3-inch connected screens
- OTA-upgradable infotainment system
- Wireless Apple CarPlay & Android Auto
- Digital key and high-power USB ports
In addition, the vehicle also comes with an external power output function, making outdoor use more convenient. This is particularly useful in outdoor scenarios commonly seen in Southeast Asia, such as picnics and camping.

The release of the STARIA electric version addresses the challenge of balancing space and range in the electrification transition of traditional MPVs.
By adapting electrification onto a mature platform, it maximizes the original space practicality of MPVs while achieving zero-emission travel.

According to the plan, the new vehicle will first launch in the Korean and European markets in the first half of 2026.
However, considering that STARIA has already established a market presence in some Southeast Asian countries, and the fuel-powered STARIA model is positioned as a mid-to-high-end MPV in Malaysia, it is likely to be introduced later.
In the Thai market, STARIA is also sold as an import, attracting family users and business customers. Although Hyundai's overall market share in Thailand is only about 0.4%, STARIA's performance in the high-end MPV segment has met expectations, so there is also an opportunity to introduce the electric version of the model.

Although STARIA does not utilize a dedicated electric platform like Xpeng and Zeekr, which might result in some limitations in energy efficiency and space optimization, consumers in Southeast Asia place greater emphasis on vehicle durability. They do not have high demands for overly complex high-end configurations.
Therefore, STARIA's pragmatic approach can actually be a significant advantage in the Southeast Asian market.
