JohnSep 10, 2024, 01:06 PM
Proton X50 offers four models in Malaysia, with prices ranging from RM 86,300 to RM 113,300, which are approximately 30% cheaper than the same market Honda HR-V and Mazda 3. The price advantage has always been a successful reason for the car's sales. The Proton X50 also won the sales champion of the SUV market in Malaysia in 2021. The car first appeared on September 15, 2020, and went on sale on October 27, 2020. It is the second SUV launched after Proton X70.
2024 Proton X50 1.5T Standard: RM 86,300
2024 Proton X50 1.5T Executive: RM 93,300
2024 Proton X50 1.5T Premium: RM 101,800
2024 Proton X50 1.5TGDi Flagship: RM 113,300

The Proton X50, unlike the Proton X70 which initially needed to be imported from China, was produced at the Proton factory in Tanjong Malim from day one, which is CKD mode, with 40% of Malaysian localization, including 406 dedicated Proton X50 parts. The new model currently on sale was released in June 2024, and received 8,000 orders within a month. Now you can enjoy a five-year unlimited mileage warranty when you buy this car.

As we all know, Proton has a share cooperation with the Chinese car manufacturer GEELY, many of which share technology platforms. This car is no exception, Proton X50 is considered to be a re-badge version of the GEELY Coolray launched in China, but Proton X50 has made several improvements, including right-hand drive conversion and mechanical adjustments. I believe everyone is no stranger to GEELY, the Chinese car manufacturer. The recently listed ZEEKR car brand in the United States and the luxury car brand Volvo are currently under GEELY's brand.

In terms of vehicle size, the Proton X50 model is positioned as a B-class vehicle with a body length of 4330mm, a width of 1800mm, a height of 1609mm, and a wheelbase of 2600mm. The Proton X50 uses the same BMA platform as the GEELY Coolray, jointly developed by GEELY and Volvo. The exterior design of the GEELY Coolray is handled by Jamie Barrett. According to the chief designer of Proton and GEELY, the design inspiration for this car came from fighter jets.
It is worth mentioning that the Proton X50 has a unique blue color scheme that is different from the basic configuration models.

In terms of power, the Proton X50 model offers two engine options in Malaysia, both are 1.5-liter three-cylinder engines jointly developed by GEELY and Volvo, equipped with a turbocharger, codenamed JLH-3G15TD. The intake port injection engine is the standard configuration, while the direct injection engine is the configuration for the flagship model.

In terms of fuel consumption, the performance of the Proton X50 flagship model is 6.4L/100km, demonstrating its fuel economy.

The currently available Proton X50 models also come with an enhanced NVH pack, the new NVH pack improves more than 20 aspects to reduce road noise isolation, creating a quieter internal environment. In addition, it is more convenient to use the electric tailgate added to the flagship and premium models. Not only that, the upgraded 10.3-inch infotainment mainframe features a faster dual quad-core processor; the flagship and premium models come with an electric tailgate; and the best-in-class 360-degree camera with higher resolution.

It's worth mentioning that the most discussed feature of the Proton X50 on social media is the 360-degree camera, which provides excellent clarity even in low light conditions, making parking easier.
