The release of the Proton S70 is aimed at filling the void in the compact sedan market left by Proton, and competing with the models such as Honda Civic, Nissan Almera and Toyota Vios.
This car is Proton's first new sedan after being invested in by Chinese car manufacturer GEELY. It is also the successor to the Proton Prevé. The Proton S70 is jointly developed by Proton and GEELY, and it is based on the fourth generation of GEELY EMGRAND. Although the Proton S70 and the GEELY EMGRAND are similar in size and share the same platform and technology, the Proton S70 is positioned higher in the market and classified as a C-segment vehicle.

The fourth generation GEELY EMGRAND was launched in China on August 28, 2021, and was built using the BMA architecture. The 2023 version of the fourth generation GEELY EMGRAND is equipped with a new generation of 1.5D in-cylinder direct injection engine across all its models, with a maximum power of 127 horsepower and a peak torque of 152 Newton-meters. The transmission system is matched with a 5-speed manual transmission or CVT continuous variable transmission, and the fuel consumption under WLTC conditions is 5.82L/100km.
The BMA architecture is a car production platform independently developed by the GEELY Group, which is officially known as Basic Module Architecture. This architecture aims at realizing the flexible development of multi-level, multi-type models, and mainly applies to A0 to A+ class models.
