Tesla FSD 12.5.1: Parameters increased fivefold, autonomous driving is smarter and safer!

AshleyJul 31, 2024, 12:17 PM

On July 30, Tesla CEO Musk announced on social media that Tesla FSD 12.5.1 version is fully rolled out today, which can be received on cars through a WiFi connection. Tesla official stated that FSD supervised 12.5 version can find exits in parking lots as well as roads without signs.

Last week, Musk stated that FSD 12.5 version would be first deployed on the Model Y car with HW4 hardware, then expanded to other models. As for when vehicles with HW3 hardware can receive an update, Musk responded on Monday, stating that these vehicles are expected to receive the update about 10 days later due to the need for separate optimization and verification.

Moreover, as FSD 12.5 will support Cybertruck, Tesla will also start pushing FSD 12.5.1 to more vehicles this week. However, Musk confirmed on Sunday that it will take two to four weeks for the software to land on Tesla's electric pickup. He stated that Cybertruck might get FSD in August, but the specific time is still uncertain.

Aside from bringing FSD to Cybertruck, the 12.5.1 version also includes other enhancements such as upgrade of the highway stack and merge it with city driving into one stack, add true smart summon feature, and support for driver attention monitoring when wearing sunglasses.

Musk also pointed out that the number of parameters in version 12.5 is five times that of version 12.4. Tesla's Autopilot director, Ashok Elluswamy, said the version is very focused on improving safety and smoothness. He revealed on social media last week: "One of my personal tests is not to spill a cup of open coffee using FSD. Version 12.5 is the first version to allow me to do this during a 30 minute ride."

The timing of Tesla FSD's entry into China has also attracted attention from all sides. On July 23, Musk revealed in a conference call for Tesla's second-quarter financial report that FSD will land in China, Europe and other countries after the release of version 12.6. The company will submit approvals to relevant regulatory bodies, with the hope of gaining approval by the end of the year.

In addition, Musk also confirmed in the financial report conference call, that Tesla will deliver affordable models in the first half of 2025. Moreover, the release of Tesla's Robotaxi has been postponed from August 2024 to October, and the production of the Tesla Roadster sports car is expected to begin in 2025.
