[PCauto] The all-new MG4 was officially launched in China in August 2025. It achieved retail sales of 11,790 units in its first full month (September), rapidly capturing the spotlight in the compact all-electric sedan segment.
This performance has positioned it third in the local segment market, joining Xpeng MONA M03 and Leapmotor B01 in the top tier, while also ranking 12th in overall pure electric sedan sales, surpassing popular models like Xiaomi SU7.
How well is the all-new MG4 selling in China?
Driven overwhelmingly by the new MG4, MG's retail sales in China surged to 16,502 units in September, a remarkable 123% increase year-on-year, with cumulative orders for the model exceeding 50,000, generating significant market momentum.
The MG4 is performing exceptionally well in China's second and third-tier cities. According to reports, a single MG dealership can sell up to 300 units per month, with store traffic surging by 70-80% following the launch of the new model. Sales data further indicates that mid-to-high-end trim levels account for over 90% of its total sales, underscoring its strong market appeal.
Despite some noted drawbacks regarding tire noise at high speeds and the powertrain response in Eco mode, the MG4 has garnered positive reviews for its overall driving experience.

The Popularity of MG4 Stems from Its Affordable Price and Long Range
The MG4's value proposition is tailored for young Chinese families and white-collar workers (25-35). It directly addresses their key expectations: an affordable price tag, a long driving range, ample space, and advanced smart capabilities.
The MG4 is equipped with a front-mounted single motor, delivering a maximum power of 120kW and a peak torque of 250N·m. It accelerates from 0-50km/h in 2.9 seconds and from 0-100km/h in 7.2 seconds.
The vehicle is available with two different battery packs: the 42.8kWh version offers a CLTC range of 437 km, while the 53.9kWh version provides a range of 530 km. Its energy consumption is as low as 10.4kWh per 100 km, and the vehicle supports fast charging from 30% to 80% in just 20 minutes.

The MG4 has a starting price of 65,800 CNY (approximately 42,770 MYR);
The 530 km range version is available at a limited-time price of 93,800 CNY (approximately 60,970 MYR);
The semi-solid-state battery version is announced with a starting price of 99,800 CNY (approximately 64,870 MYR), making the new MG4 highly competitive in today's market.

The MG4 strikes a strategic balance, outperforming competitors by offering superior range, more space, and richer smart features than rivals such as the pricier BYD Dolphin or the range-limited Geely Xingyuan. For example, its entry-level version provides a range of up to 437 kilometers, whereas competitors' offerings mostly fall within the 310-410 kilometer bracket.
For budget-conscious young buyers, choosing the all-new MG4 means they don't have to pay a premium for long-range electric driving. A 28-year-old white-collar worker from Shenzhen said: "I commute 40 km daily, and the 437-kilometer range means I only need to charge once a week. The price is also within my budget, so there's no reason not to choose it."

In addition to its range, the all-new MG4’s design also attracts many consumers
The exterior design of the all-new MG4 seamlessly blends sporty DNA with contemporary style, making it a defining characteristic in the compact EV segment.
This model continues MG Cyberster's design language, featuring a closed grille with an illuminated logo on the front, L-shaped split headlights embedded with arrow-shaped daytime running lights, collectively boosting the car's visual identity, while the addition of a blacked-out honeycomb lower grille further accentuates its sporty character.

The side profile features sleek low-slung lines, with a short front overhang and a long 2750-mm wheelbase design that optimizes the vehicle's proportions. The drag coefficient is as low as 0.27Cd, directly enhancing energy efficiency.

The rear end is defined by through-type arrow taillights that mirror the front, and a blacked-out bumper with a diffuser that enhances the layered effect, resulting in a highly dynamic visual presence.

In terms of details, the high-end version of the MG4 is equipped with 17-inch petal-shaped wheels, paired with optional red brake calipers that further enhance the visual impact.
The interior space of the all-new MG4 is also well-received
In terms of space, the MG4 has body dimensions of
Length: 4395mm
Width: 1842mm
Height: 1551mm
Wheelbase: 2750mm
The rear legroom of the new car reaches 850mm, surpassing competitors like Geely Xingyuan (Proton e.MAS 5).
The trunk offers a generous base capacity of 471 liters, which can be expanded to 1,362 liters. Combined with a sunken storage compartment design, this significantly enhances its practicality.

What excites consumers even more is that the all-new MG4 comes standard with the Qualcomm 8155 chip across the entire lineup, debuting the MG×OPPO intelligent car system. The system's seamless and intuitive operation matches a key criterion for young buyers: smart and user-friendly technology.
The semi-solid-state battery version of the MG4 will start delivery in December
MG4 plans to deliver a version with a range of 530km in late October, priced at a limited-time offer of 93,800 CNY (approximately 60,970 MYR). This version adds a 15.6-inch 2.5K central display and driver-assistance features, enhancements that solidify its value proposition for the mid-range market.

While the semi-solid-state battery version of the MG4 will begin mass deliveries in December, offering upgrades in both range and safety. By then, MG4's sales are expected to see further growth.
The semi-solid-state battery technology is jointly developed by SAIC and Qingtao Energy, featuring a liquid electrolyte content reduced to just 5%. It has passed rigorous safety tests and achieves a range retention rate of 75% in -7°C conditions, surpassing the industry average.

Global Launch Timeline for the New MG4
