[PCauto] Toyota has recently initiated a large-scale global recall, involving nearly 1.467 million vehicles. The reason is that the digital dashboard may suddenly go blank, preventing drivers from accessing critical driving information, thereby increasing the risk of accidents.
The recall covers multiple markets, including countries such as the United States, China, Australia, and Japan. The affected models include Venza, Crown, Crown Signia, RAV4, GR Corolla, 4Runner, Camry, Grand Highlander, Tacoma, and Highlander, as well as Lexus's LS, RX, and TX. The affected model years are mainly from 2023 to 2025.

Toyota's Recall Situation in Major Global Markets
According to documents from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in the United States, Toyota is recalling 591,000 vehicles in the U.S., involving 15 models.
Due to improper settings in the control program of the 12.3-inch digital dashboard, the screen may go completely black during startup or driving, failing to display information such as vehicle speed, fuel level, and warning lights.
Toyota stated that this issue stems from a software programming error, which causes data to repeatedly overwrite the display’s memory, accelerating hardware wear and tear.

In the Chinese market, Toyota recalled over 230,000 vehicles, including AVALON, COROLLA, CAMRY, LEVIN, and imported models such as ALPHARD, VELLFIRE, as well as Lexus LM and LS series. The production dates range from 2022 to 2025, with the issue being the same combination instrument panel black screen fault.
Toyota recalled 646,376 vehicles in Japan, marking Toyota's second large-scale recall within six months, with ALPHARD and VELLFIRE accounting for 30%.
Toyota will fix the issue for free through software updates or hardware replacement
For non-plug-in hybrid models, Toyota will upgrade the instrument cluster control software; plug-in hybrid models like the RAV4 Prime may require replacing the entire instrument assembly, with no cost to the vehicle owners.
Owners in the U.S. market will receive notification letters by mid-November 2025, while the Chinese market will implement the recall in batches starting from September 30, 2025. The recall process has already started in the Japanese market.
Owners can check if their vehicles are affected by entering the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on the brand’s official website or regulatory agency’s website.

At present, software defects have replaced mechanical failures as the main cause of recalls. In 2023, Toyota's global recall volume reached 3.8 million vehicles, with a significant increase in issues related to electronic systems.
The cause of the defect this time is that Toyota, in order to reduce costs, applied the same software to multiple models ranging from economy to luxury cars, leading to a wider impact of the defect.
