Toyota's half-year sales: Number one in global sales, but decreased in the domestic Japanese market!

Recently, Toyota (including Daihatsu and Hino) announced its global sales data for the first half of 2024, which showed that Toyota's global cumulative sales were 5.16 million vehicles, a year-on-year decrease of 4.7%; of which global sales in June were 912,971 vehicles, a year-on-year decrease of 5.8%. Global production in the first half of the year was 5.07 million vehicles, a year-on-year decrease of 9.8%, of which global production in June was 894,541 vehicles, a year-on-year decrease of 11.8%.

Despite the drop in sales, Toyota's global sales in the first half of 2024 still surpassed its German competitor Volkswagen, securing the first place in global sales, and maintaining the top spot in global sales for the fifth consecutive year, which demonstrates strong market foundation and brand influence.

Looking at individual country markets, the United States remains Toyota's largest automobile market, with cumulative sales for the first half of the year reaching 1,186,647 vehicles, up 14.3% year-on-year. Followed by the Chinese market, with Toyota and Lexus selling a total of 784,621 new cars in the domestic market in the first half of the year, a year-on-year decrease of 10.8%;. In the Japanese domestic market, sales also decreased, dropping as much as 22.3%, with total sales in the first half of the year being only 682,296 vehicles. However, performance in the European market was good, selling 603,322 new cars, an increase of 10.2% year-on-year.

It is worth mentioning that the global production of Toyota and Lexus in June was 795,862 vehicles, a year-on-year decrease of 12.9%, marking the largest decline since December 2022 and the fifth consecutive month of production decline.
