In Malaysia's B-Segment market, the Perodua Myvi has always been an unavoidable option — from family commuting to being the first purchase for young buyers, its high cost-effectiveness and practicality have deeply resonated with consumers. The 2018 Myvi 1.5 AV AT, as the top-spec version, not only continues the core advantages of the series but also upgrades its safety features and smart details. This time, we got the actual car and focused on testing its performance in daily commuting and family outing scenarios to see if the top-spec version is worth the extra budget.

The first impression when seeing the 2018 Myvi 1.5 AV AT is that it looks more refined compared to the previous model. The large trapezoidal front grille with chrome accents is highly recognizable; the sharp LED headlights on both sides come with automatic lighting functionality as standard, making daily use more convenient. The body features smooth side lines, and the 185/55 R15 tire size matches the proportions of the car well without looking undersized. At the rear, the smoked LED taillights echo the sporty look of the front, while the lines of the rear bumper add a sense of layering. The overall design is not too aggressive, but the details are well-executed, catering to the aesthetic preferences of most family users.

Stepping inside, the interior layout is simple and practical. The center console is slightly oriented towards the driver, with commonly used buttons within easy reach. Although most materials are hard plastic, the joints are evenly treated, avoiding a cheap feel. The seats are upholstered in fabric, providing good support, and while the manual adjustment is not as convenient as electric controls, it is still sufficient for everyday adjustments. In terms of core features, keyless entry and ignition stand out, saving the hassle of looking for the keys. The 60:40 split-folding rear seats can be folded down, expanding the trunk volume from 277L to a larger space, making it easy to fit a baby stroller or suitcases. Additionally, the front and rear parking sensors and the 360-degree camera system are very practical, making parking easy even for beginners. Safety features are a highlight of this car, with six airbags, vehicle stability control, autonomous emergency braking, and forward collision warning all included, making it relatively comprehensive within the same segment.

Space performance meets the mainstream standard for the B-Segment. With a wheelbase of 2500mm, there is one fist of headroom for a 175cm passenger in the front; rear legroom is about two fists, and while seating three adults in the back would feel a bit cramped, it's adequate for everyday family use. Regarding storage spaces, the door panels can hold two bottles of water, and the central armrest box and glove compartment offer decent capacity. The rear seats are equipped with ISO FIX anchors, making it easy to install a child seat, which is family-friendly for households with children.

As for the powertrain, the 1.5L naturally aspirated engine produces a maximum power of 103PS and a peak torque of 136N·m, paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission. For daily commuting, start-up and low-speed driving are relatively smooth, and while throttle response isn't particularly quick, it is adequately linear. When overtaking on the highway, it requires a firm press on the accelerator, and the transmission will downshift to boost acceleration. Though not as aggressive as turbocharged models, it is sufficient for everyday needs. There is only a normal driving mode, with no sports mode, but this has little impact on family users.

In terms of handling, the steering wheel has a moderate turning force, with not much play, making daily driving very smooth. The front MacPherson independent suspension is tuned for comfort, filtering out most vibrations when going over speed bumps or bumpy roads, so rear passengers won’t feel too much discomfort. The cornering performance is decent, with minimal body roll, maintaining good stability. In terms of fuel consumption, we tested in mixed urban and highway conditions, and the fuel consumption was about 6.5L per 100 kilometers. Although slightly higher than the official combined fuel consumption of 5L, it is still relatively economical among fuel cars of the same class.

The noise control is done quite well. At low speeds, you can hardly hear the engine noise; at high speeds, wind noise and tire noise become more noticeable, but remain within an acceptable range. The seat comfort is excellent as well, and you won't feel tired even after long periods of sitting. The engine start-stop technology can automatically shut off the engine at red lights to reduce fuel consumption, though there is a slight vibration when restarting. Regarding energy recovery, this fuel car does not have it, but the braking pedal feel is linear, and the braking distance meets expectations.

In summary, the core strengths of the 2018 Perodua Myvi 1.5 AV AT lie in its high cost-effectiveness and comprehensive safety features. Compared to competitors in the same class, it offers more abundant safety configurations at a more affordable price. Its space and fuel efficiency are also well-balanced. This car is suitable for family users who prioritize practicality and safety, especially families with children, as the six airbags and child seat anchors provide better protection. Additionally, young first-time buyers can also consider it, as features like keyless entry and the 360-degree camera improve everyday convenience. If you need an economical, practical, and safe commuter car, the Myvi 1.5 AV AT is a great choice.

Owner of 2018 Perodua Myvi 1.5 AV AT
As a 2018 Myvi 1.5 AV AT owner, after driving it for nearly five years, I’m still quite satisfied overall! Let’s talk about performance first. The 1.5L naturally aspirated engine is completely sufficient for city driving in Kuala Lumpur. It’s very smooth during stop-and-go traffic during rush hours, and overtaking on the LDP highway isn’t too difficult either. However, when it’s fully loaded with five people going uphill to Genting, the power feels slightly lacking, and you need to accelerate in advance, so I’ll deduct one point, giving it 4 points. As for the interior, although it’s not luxurious, the design is quite practical. The layout of the buttons on the central control panel is clear, and the air conditioning knobs are easy to operate. However, the plastic feel is a bit strong, but considering this price range, it’s acceptable, so 4 points seem reasonable. I think the safety features are quite sincere: 6 airbags plus a stability control system. The last time in Penang, when it was raining and the road was slippery, I almost rear-ended someone, but the active braking intervened in time—it really saved me! However, if it had adaptive cruise control, long-distance highway driving would be even more relaxed, so safety also deserves 4 points. As for the exterior, the Myvi’s design is very common on roads in Malaysia, but the LED headlights and 15-inch wheels still look pretty stylish—especially the white model, which looks really shiny right after a wash. However, the body lines are a bit rounded and not particularly sporty, so the exterior also gets 4 points. Overall, as a family car, the Myvi is really well-suited for Malaysian road conditions. It’s fuel-efficient and durable, so it’s a great recommendation for families on a budget!

As the owner of the 2018 Perodua Myvi 1.5 AV AT, after driving it for more than three years, I give full marks for both the exterior and performance! First, the exterior: Malaysia's hot weather doesn't easily make the car look aged, even when parked outside under harsh sunlight. The car's body lines are very sleek, and the LED headlights stand out exceptionally during rainy and foggy days in Penang, with high visibility and recognition. Whenever I park at the LRT station, I can spot my car from afar. Speaking of performance, it’s even more impressive. The 1.5L naturally aspirated engine accelerates very smoothly in Kuala Lumpur traffic, and the AT transmission shifts seamlessly without any jerks. Taking the family to Genting Highlands on weekends, there’s plenty of power for uphill driving, and it doesn’t feel strained at all. The official fuel consumption is 5L/100km, and from my experience, it’s about 6L in the city and as low as 4.8L on the highway. With the rising fuel prices in Malaysia, this fuel efficiency is truly reassuring. The front MacPherson suspension handles speed bumps and uneven roads very well, and my parents, sitting in the back, always say it’s very comfortable. In conclusion, driving this car on Malaysian roads feels incredibly smooth. It has an elegant appearance, reliable performance, and it perfectly meets my needs!

Owner of 2018 Perodua Myvi 1.5 AV AT
As the owner of a 2018 Perodua Myvi 1.5 AV AT, after driving it in Malaysia for nearly five years, I truly feel like I made the right choice with this car! Firstly, in terms of appearance, it's considered quite appealing among B-segment cars. The rounded body lines paired with the LED headlights make it highly distinguishable during traffic jams in Kuala Lumpur city. My friends even say it looks more refined than other cars in the same price range. I must give full marks for safety! With frequent rainy weather in Malaysia and occasional sudden situations on the highway, the 6 airbags, vehicle stability control, and active braking system have really saved me once — last year on the North-South Expressway, the car in front suddenly braked, and the system immediately alerted and decelerated automatically, preventing a rear-end collision. When taking my family on trips, the ISO FIX mounts and front and rear sensors also give me peace of mind. As for performance, the 1.5L naturally aspirated engine is completely sufficient for city driving. Especially when climbing hills in Penang, the power delivery is smooth, and the AT gearbox shifts seamlessly without any noticeable jerks. The official fuel consumption is stated as 5L/100km, and in my actual usage, it's about 5.5L. Considering the rising fuel costs in Malaysia, I'm very satisfied with this performance! In conclusion, this car has exceeded my expectations in terms of appearance, safety, and performance. It truly is a dependable choice for a family car!

Owner of 2018 Perodua Myvi 1.5 AV AT
As the owner of a 2018 Myvi 1.5 AV AT, having driven it for nearly 5 years, I genuinely feel I’ve made the right choice! The exterior deserves full marks — this generation of the Myvi perfectly resonates with Malaysian aesthetics. Its rounded yet sporty body design and LED headlights shine especially bright in the rainy misty evenings of Kuala Lumpur, and every time I park near an LRT station, it always gets second glances. My friends all say it looks way more stylish than the previous version. When it comes to safety, I’m completely at ease, especially since this car is equipped with 6 airbags! Last time in the narrow lanes of George Town, Penang, the car in front suddenly braked hard, and my car’s autonomous emergency braking system was triggered. It gave me a fright, but there wasn’t a crash — this feature is really rare in this price range. When I take my family on the North-South Expressway, the vehicle stability control performs steadily. Even when driving fast on waterlogged parts of the highway during rainy days, the steering wheel doesn’t feel like it’s drifting, which really enhances my sense of security. I’d rate the performance 4 out of 5. The 1.5L naturally aspirated engine is sufficient for city driving; it performs smoothly during the morning rush in Kuala Lumpur, and the throttle response is quick. However, when driving up Genting Highlands, it can feel a bit sluggish, especially with 5 passengers and the air conditioning on — you really have to step on the gas. But after all, it’s a family car, and I’m very satisfied with this performance. It’s more than adequate for daily commutes and weekend trips with the family to the East Coast beaches!

Owner of 2018 Perodua Myvi 1.5 AV AT
As the owner of the 2018 Perodua Myvi 1.5 AV AT, having driven it for over two years, the daily commute and weekend trips in Malaysia have been really enjoyable! **Performance** definitely deserves a full score. The 1.5L naturally aspirated engine is very quick to start off in Kuala Lumpur's congested roads. When the traffic light turns green, it's usually the first to speed off. On the highway, cruising at 110km/h is very stable, and the power response when overtaking is immediate and not sluggish at all. The fuel consumption is also impressive. The official figure is 5L/100km, and even with the air conditioning on and in traffic jams during my daily use, it's only around 6L. One full tank of 36L can run over 600km, which is amazing considering Malaysia's fuel prices! **Appearance** is also something I'm super satisfied with. The design of the Myvi is considered quite stylish in the B-segment. The LED headlights are highly recognizable during the day and bright enough at night. The body lines are smooth, and when parked in the neighborhood, neighbors often ask if it's a new car. The 15-inch wheels match the body proportions perfectly without looking small or disproportionate. **Safety** gets 4 stars. Actually, the configuration is already quite comprehensive, with 6 airbags, vehicle stability control, front and rear sensors, and a camera. Last time on a winding mountain road in Ipoh, the vehicle stability system kicked in just in time to prevent skidding. However, compared to newer cars, it lacks lane-keeping assistance. If this configuration had been included at the time, it would have been even more perfect. But for daily use, it's more than sufficient, and the sense of security is still strong. All in all, this car offers excellent value for money on Malaysia's roads, making it ideal for families and office workers!
