Specs

The C-segment SUV market has always been a popular choice among Malaysian family users. This type of vehicle needs to balance space, features, and daily practicality. The 2019 Honda CR-V 1.5TC 2WD is a regular in this segment. Its core selling points are clear: the power reserve brought by the 1.5T turbocharged engine, the standard L2-level driving assistance system across all trims, and Honda's consistent space utilization. The main purpose of this test drive is to verify its actual performance in scenarios such as daily commuting and weekend family outings, and to see whether it can still meet the current market demand.

From the exterior, the 2019 CR-V continues Honda's family design language, with an overall style that leans towards stability without being dull. The chrome trim on the front connects the LED headlights on both sides, extending the visual width. A trapezoidal grille paired with black plastic cladding adds a touch of SUV ruggedness. The side profile lines flow smoothly, with a waistline extending from the front fender to the rear, preventing the side from appearing monotonous. The 18-inch multi-spoke rims are proportionate to the body size, avoiding an overly exaggerated look. At the rear, the LED taillights feature a horizontal design, echoing the front, while the silver skid plate under the rear bumper enhances a sense of layering. Overall, its recognition level in the same class is moderately high.

Sitting inside, the interior layout prioritizes practicality. The overall color tone is dark, but most of the touchable areas are wrapped in soft materials, and the silver trim in the center console adds a decorative touch. The 7-inch touchscreen sits atop the center console, with clear operating logic and responsive performance. It supports Bluetooth connectivity and basic smart connectivity features. The instrument cluster is fully digital and displays information such as RPM, speed, and fuel consumption, with a concise and easy-to-read interface. In terms of features, this car performs commendably: the front seats are electrically adjustable with lumbar support for the driver. The dual-zone automatic climate control system has rear vents allowing rear passengers to independently adjust the airflow. The steering wheel comes with paddle shifters, making overtaking in daily driving more convenient. Keyless entry, push-button start, and rain-sensing wipers are also standard features, making the overall configuration level among the best in the 2019 models of its class.

Space performance has always been a strength of the CR-V. Its length of 4,584mm and 2,660mm wheelbase provide ample space for both front and rear passengers. After adjusting the front seats to a comfortable position, there is still about two fists of legroom in the rear, and the headroom is also sufficient, ensuring no feeling of constraint even for passengers 180cm tall. The rear seats support a 60:40 split fold and manual recline functions. When folded down, the trunk capacity expands from 522L to nearly 1600L, easily accommodating large items such as strollers and suitcases. As for storage spaces, the door pockets can fit two large water bottles, the central armrest box is sufficiently deep, and the front row offers two USB ports and a 220V power outlet to meet the charging needs of electronic devices.

When it comes to power, the 1.5T turbocharged engine delivers a maximum output of 193PS with maximum torque available between 2000-5000rpm, paired with a CVT transmission. During everyday driving, the vehicle starts swiftly, with linear throttle response and no significant lag during low and mid-speed acceleration. Urban commuting, following traffic, and overtaking are all handled easily. When switched to sport mode, the transmission maintains a lower gear, offering more direct power delivery. On highways, pressing the accelerator deeply results in the engine responding quickly. The official 0-100km/h acceleration time of 8.8 seconds is considered quite good among 1.5T models in its class.

In terms of handling, the steering wheel has a moderate turning force, minimal play, and is quite agile for daily driving. The chassis adopts a front MacPherson and rear multi-link independent suspension, tuned for comfort, filtering out most small road bumps. Vibrations when passing speed bumps are also handled smoothly. However, there is noticeable body roll when cornering at high speeds. After all, it's an SUV with a relatively high center of gravity, and its overall handling prioritizes stability. As for fuel consumption, we drove 100 km in urban traffic and 100 km on highways, with a combined fuel consumption of about 7.5L/100km. While slightly higher than the official figure of 7L, this performance is acceptable considering real-world driving conditions.

Regarding driving comfort, the noise control of this car is well handled. Tire noise and wind noise are relatively low when driving in urban areas, and while wind noise increases slightly at 120 km/h on highways, it does not affect in-car conversations. The seats provide good cushioning and support, ensuring that long drives are not tiring. On the braking side, the brake pedal travel is moderate, and the brake force is released in a linear manner, instilling confidence during daily driving.

Safety features are a highlight of this car, with six airbags, ABS, ESP, lane change assist, forward collision warning, front and rear sensors, and a 360-degree panoramic camera as standard across all variants. These features were uncommon in similar models in 2019 and still meet most users' safety needs today.

Overall, the 2019 Honda CR-V 1.5TC 2WD's core advantages lie in its practicality, performance, and safety features. Compared to similar models, such as the Toyota RAV4 2.0G, the CR-V delivers better performance and richer features; compared to the Mazda CX-5 2.0, the CR-V provides more space and lower fuel consumption. However, its interior design is relatively conservative, and the size of its central control screen lags behind newer models.

This car has a clear target audience: families that value space and practicality or users who need a car for both daily commuting and weekend trips. It delivers sufficient power, comprehensive configuration, spacious interior, and acceptable fuel consumption. Overall, its performance is balanced, with no obvious drawbacks. If you're looking for a C-class SUV priced around 150,000 MYR, with an emphasis on balance and reliability, the 2019 CR-V 1.5TC 2WD is worth considering.

Last Saturday, I drove my family to the orchard at the foot of Genting Mountain. As soon as I entered the mountain road, it started pouring rain. Stepping on the CVT, the turbo lagged for half a second before delivering power. The car body wobbled slightly during the climb, but the ESP intervened immediately to stabilize it. The leather seats in the interior got wet from the rain but didn’t have any odor. The central control screen was responsive, and the navigation didn’t lag. In terms of safety, it was reliable; the forward collision warning flashed twice in the heavy rain, reminding me that I was following too closely. However, the rear air conditioning was a bit weak, and the fuel consumption spiked to 10L during the uphill; yet it dropped again while coasting downhill. Overall, the combined fuel consumption was 7.2L, which is acceptable.

1.5T power is truly amazing! In the city, it accelerates instantly with just a tap of the gas pedal for overtaking, and even at 120 on the highway, stepping on it still gives you a push-back feeling—absolutely thrilling!

Last week, I took my family to the orchard at the foot of Genting Mountain. After the heavy rain, the road was flooded and slippery. The LED headlights on the CR-V cut through the rain very clearly, and the vehicle stability control during cornering kept me from panicking. However, the lane assist occasionally falsely detects motorcycles nearby, which is a slight drawback. That being said, the 1.5T engine has enough power for uphill climbs, the trunk easily fits three boxes of mangosteens with room to spare, and folding down the rear seats allows the kids to lie down and sleep. With its looks and practicality, it’s truly worth the 150,000 MYR.

After driving the CR-V for more than three years, the 1.5T turbo is super satisfying for overtaking during the morning rush. The rear seat fits three brothers comfortably for long trips without feeling cramped. The safety features provide a strong sense of security, but the exterior design is quite conventional. The overall fuel consumption is 7 liters, making it economical to maintain. It's truly awesome for family use!
