In the luxury large sedan market, consumers often seek a balance between brand heritage, performance, and ride comfort. As the flagship sedan under its brand, the Maserati Quattroporte has always attracted individuality-seeking users with its unique Italian style and sporty genes. The 2019 Quattroporte GranSport version further enhances its sporty attributes while retaining the comfort experience of a luxury sedan. Can it stand out in the highly homogenized niche market? This review will comprehensively analyze the true strength of this model, from static design and space practicality to dynamic driving performance.

The exterior design of the 2019 Quattroporte GranSport continues Maserati's classic design language, with the overall style leaning towards a combination of sportiness and elegance. The iconic vertical slat front grille, paired with the trident emblem, is highly recognizable, and the chrome trim around the grille further enhances its refinement. The irregularly shaped headlights on either side feature LED light sources, creating a sharp visual effect when illuminated. The side profile of the car showcases smooth lines, with a waistline extending from the hood to the rear, enhancing its muscular appearance. The 20-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels emphasize its identity as a sports version, with tire specifications of 245/40 R20 at the front and 285/35 R20 at the rear, ensuring better grip with the wide tire design. At the rear, the quad-exit exhaust layout is eye-catching. The taillights adopt a family-style wraparound LED light strip design that echoes the headlights, while the small spoiler on the trunk lid adds a touch of sportiness to the vehicle.

Inside, the GranSport version's interior is predominantly black, complemented by red stitching and Alcantara material, creating a strong sporty atmosphere. The dashboard adopts a symmetrical design, with the upper part covered in soft leather material, offering a delicate touch, and the lower part accented with metallic trim. The 10.1-inch central touchscreen is the core of the interior, equipped with the Maserati Intelligent Assistant (MIA) system, supporting Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. Its operation and response speed perform well. The instrument panel features a traditional mechanical pointer design, with a 7-inch color display in the center that shows information such as speed, RPM, and fuel consumption. Although it lacks the technological feel of a fully digital dashboard, it aligns more with the brand's retro-sporting style. The seats are designed as sport-type bucket seats with good wraparound design. The sides of the backrest and cushion provide ample support and feature electric adjustment, heating, and memory functions, making them convenient for daily use.

As a mid-to-large sedan, the dimensions of the Quattroporte are 5262mm×1948mm×1481mm, with a wheelbase of 3171mm, offering space on par with the mainstream in its class. The front row boasts ample seating space, and even with a driver of 180cm setting the seat comfortably, there’s still a fist's width of headroom left. The rear seating area is equally spacious, with over two fists of legroom and about four fingers of headroom, ensuring no sense of confinement even on long journeys. In terms of storage, the front central armrest has a deep interior space that can hold phones, wallets, and other items, and the door panel storage compartments can fit two bottles of mineral water. The trunk offers a standard capacity of 530L, with a well-shaped interior that easily accommodates three 20-inch suitcases, meeting the needs of daily family trips or business usage. Additionally, the rear row is equipped with independent air conditioning vents, USB charging ports, and a central armrest, further enhancing the comfort for rear passengers.

Powertrain-wise, the 2019 Quattroporte GranSport is equipped with a 3.0T V6 twin-turbocharged engine, delivering a maximum power of 430PS and a peak torque of 580N·m, paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. During actual driving, the engine provides ample power reserves, and the throttle response is sensitive during start-up, with the vehicle responding swiftly to light throttle inputs. In sport mode, the throttle becomes more aggressive, and the transmission's shifting logic is adjusted to delay upshifts. At this time, pressing the throttle deeply results in continuous power output, achieving a 0-100 km/h acceleration in approximately 4.7 seconds, with a pronounced push-back feeling. During daily driving, the gear shifts are smooth and barely noticeable, ensuring a comfortable ride.

In terms of handling, the Quattroporte GranSport offers precise steering with minimal play and moderate feedback, providing the driver with confidence in handling. The chassis adopts a combination of front double wishbone independent suspension and rear multi-link independent suspension. The suspension setup is on the stiffer side, effectively suppressing body roll and performing stably during cornering. However, the firm suspension also results in vibrations being transmitted more directly to the cabin when traversing bumpy roads, which slightly affects ride comfort. The braking system performs excellently, with a linear brake pedal feel and evenly distributed braking force. The braking distance from 100-0 km/h is about 36 meters, aligning well with the positioning of a luxury sports sedan.

As for fuel consumption, the official combined fuel consumption is 9.1L/100km. In actual tests, fuel consumption in urban traffic is about 12-14L/100km and drops to 8-9L/100km on highways. Overall, the fuel economy is average, but considering its 3.0T engine displacement and sporty tuning, this level of fuel consumption is within an acceptable range. In terms of noise control, wind and tire noise can be heard when driving at high speeds, but the overall noise levels are within the normal range for vehicles in the same class and will not interfere with communication inside the cabin.

In summary, the core advantages of the 2019 Maserati Quattroporte GranSport lie in its unique brand appeal, powerful performance, and sporty driving experience. Compared to competitors in the same class such as the BMW 7 Series M Sport and Mercedes-Benz S-Class AMG Line, the Quattroporte GranSport holds a certain advantage in terms of power figures and offers higher brand recognition, making it suitable for consumers who value individuality and driving pleasure. However, it is slightly inferior to German competitors in terms of interior technology and luxury features.

This model is better suited for users who emphasize brand heritage and driving experience. Whether it is used for the daily commute by a business professional or for weekend family outings, it can meet those needs effectively. If you are a consumer who appreciates Italian design, pursues sporty performance, and values a certain level of luxury, then the Quattroporte GranSport is worth considering.

Overall, the 2019 Maserati Quattroporte GranSport is a mid-to-large luxury sedan that combines sporty performance with comfort. It retains Maserati's traditional charm while meeting modern consumer demands in terms of technology and performance, making it an exceptionally distinctive choice in the luxury sports sedan market.

During the morning rush hour, overtaking a car feels effortless with the 3.0T power; it surges forward instantly, much nimbler than the cars nearby. Even with three guys squeezed in the back seat, it still doesn't feel cramped. However, in summer, when parked outdoors, the leather seats get so hot they could fry an egg—cool looking for sure, but definitely tough on the butt.

Previously, I drove a BMW 5 Series and always felt it lacked some "soul"—until I encountered this Maserati Quattroporte GranSport. The 3.0T twin-turbo with 430 horsepower is no joke. Driving on the North-South Expressway over the weekend, flooring the accelerator to overtake, the exhaust sound makes nearby Japanese cars instantly "give way." Performance deserves more than a 5 out of 5! As for safety, Malaysia has frequent rainy days, and its ESP intervention is very timely, but since it lacks automatic braking, I can only give it a 4. A minor gripe is the slow response of the central control screen; adjusting the air conditioning during a traffic jam in the early morning takes up to two seconds. But every time I park in front of KLCC, the Trident logo turns heads, making these small flaws completely forgivable!

The moment I stepped on the accelerator, my whole body was pushed against the seat. This power is just amazing!

This executive car has been on the road for nearly five years, yet its exterior and interior design still feel timeless. Every time I lock the car, I can’t help but take another glance back. The 3.0T engine provides exhilarating power on the highway for overtaking, while still being agile enough for city commuting. The rear seats comfortably accommodate three adults without feeling cramped. However, in summer, if parked outdoors, you'll need to turn on the air conditioning in advance. Fuel consumption is over 9 liters, which is more economical than expected.

Previously, I drove a BMW 5 Series, but I switched to a Maserati for its Italian elegance—its trident logo on the front is a real head-turner under the Petronas Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur. The GranSport's sporty body kit looks more aggressive than the standard version. When parked in front of a hip restaurant on Jalan Bukit Bintang, even the waiters run out faster to serve. The Nappa leather interior feels more refined than the 5 Series, and the clock on the center console starts turning upon ignition, adding a sense of ceremony. During the morning rush hour on Federal Highway, the 3.0T turbo engine doesn’t really get a chance to roar, but the 8-speed automatic transmission shifts as smoothly as sipping on white coffee. The seats are highly supportive, so even after an hour-long traffic jam, there’s no back pain. On weekends when driving on the Johor Bahru highway, stepping hard on the accelerator delivers a push-back feeling so strong it caused my friend’s bubble tea on the passenger seat to spill. The exhaust sound on empty stretches of road hums beautifully, more pleasant than the honking at the Singapore customs checkpoint. Safety gets a 4-star rating mainly because of the lack of Level 2 driving assistance. On Malaysia's highways, where motorbikes occasionally weave in and out, you have to stay extra alert. As for fuel consumption, city driving takes around 12L/100km, higher than the official 9.1L/100km, but come on, who buys a Maserati and fusses over gas money? Every time I lock the car and glance back at the taillights, it feels totally worth it.
