Currently, the options in the Malaysian two-door sports car market are limited. Most models are either overpriced or have configurations that fail to meet demands. The arrival of the 2019 Toyota GR Supra 3.0L perfectly fills the gap for "balanced performance + practical features." Its most attractive points include the 388PS inline-six turbocharged engine, rear-wheel drive layout for driving fun, and rarely seen full active safety features at the same price point. The main purpose of this test drive is to verify whether its actual driving performance matches the "GR performance car" title while also assessing its daily usability.

Starting with the exterior, the GR Supra’s design is exactly what a sports car should look like—short front overhang, long hood, fastback styling, with compact and flowing lines that garner high onlooker attention. The front features a large trapezoidal lower grille, complemented by side air vents, giving it a strong sense of identity. The LED headlights are sharp and seamlessly connect with the hood's contour lines. The waistline on the car’s side runs from the front to the rear, paired with 19-inch wheels and 255/35 front tires and 275/35 rear tires, leaving a visually powerful impression. The dual-exhaust layout at the rear emphasizes its performance orientation, and the LED taillights feature a distinctive circular design with high recognition when lit. The lighting system comes standard with LEDs, including automatic headlights and daytime running lights, which are very convenient for daily use.

Sitting inside, the interior design leans towards the driver’s side, with the center console tilted toward the driver, making it very ergonomic. In terms of materials, most areas of the center console are wrapped in soft-touch materials, complemented by stitching, offering a texture that’s quite good for sports cars in the same price range. The instrument panel is a combination of digital and analog, capable of displaying critical information such as speed, RPM, and oil temperature. A heads-up display (HUD) comes standard, allowing you to see navigation and speed without lowering your head—safe and practical. The 8.8-inch touchscreen in the center console is appropriately sized, reacts smoothly, and is paired with a 12-speaker sound system, delivering sound quality that meets expectations. The seats are manually adjustable but offer excellent support, especially the wrapping around the waist and legs. During spirited driving, they securely hold the body in place. Dual-zone automatic air conditioning and a 220V/230V power outlet are standard, ensuring that daily convenience is not compromised.

In terms of space, as a two-door, two-seater sports car, the focus is only on the front-row seating space. A passenger with a height of 175cm can sit inside with one fist of headroom left and enough legroom to stretch out without feeling constrained. Storage capacity is average, with the center armrest box and door storage compartments accommodating small items like phones and wallets. The trunk has a capacity of 290L, enough to fit two carry-on suitcases, making it sufficient for daily commutes or short trips. Safety features are a highlight, with seven airbags (including knee and front/rear head curtain airbags), ABS, vehicle stability control, blind-spot monitoring, lane departure warning, and automatic braking all coming standard. This level of safety is even more comprehensive than some family cars, which is quite surprising.

Performance is the core selling point of the GR Supra. Its 3.0L inline-six turbocharged engine delivers a maximum power of 388PS, with peak torque available from 1800-5000rpm, paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. The official 0-100km/h acceleration time is 4.1 seconds. In actual driving, throttle response is very sharp at launch, providing noticeable push-back with slight pedal pressure. Mid-to-high-end acceleration is even stronger; overtaking is easy with a deep press of the throttle, and the transmission shifts down swiftly, offering power on demand. Its highway acceleration is particularly impressive. Steering feel is precise with minimal play, and it provides clear feedback from the road during cornering. The suspension is tuned on the firmer side but not uncomfortably so. It quickly absorbs vibrations from speed bumps or uneven roads while maintaining overall stability. During daily driving in normal mode, power delivery is smooth and suitable for commuting. Switching to sport mode makes the throttle and transmission more responsive, with the exhaust producing a throatier note, adding to the driving excitement.

In terms of fuel consumption, the official combined fuel consumption is 10.3L/100km. In actual tests, the urban congestion condition is about 12-13L, and the highway condition is 8-9L, which is reasonable for a 3.0T six-cylinder sports car. Braking performance is good, with a linear brake pedal travel and adequate braking force. During emergency braking, the body remains stable without significant nose dive. Noise control is surprisingly well done. At 120km/h on the highway, wind noise and tire noise are not particularly noticeable, making daily driving very quiet. The seats offer good wrapping and support, ensuring comfort even during long drives, making it suitable for long-distance trips.

Overall, the 2019 Toyota GR Supra 3.0L has distinct core advantages: strong power, precise handling, comprehensive safety features, and everyday convenience. Compared with other sports cars in the same class, such as the BMW Z4 (a platform-sharing model), the GR Supra is more affordable, better equipped, and offers greater value for money. Compared to some niche sports cars, it has advantages in reliability and after-sales network. It is suitable for two types of people: one is young driving enthusiasts who enjoy weekend mountain runs; the other is players who need a car that balances everyday commuting with performance experiences—after all, its safety features and storage capacity fully meet daily needs.

In conclusion, the 2019 Toyota GR Supra 3.0L is a performance sports car with "no obvious weaknesses": powerful, great handling, well-equipped, and hassle-free for daily use. If you want a car that satisfies your driving passion without compromising practicality, it is definitely the top choice in its price range.

As the owner of the 2019 Toyota GR Supra 3.0L, my driving experience in Malaysia has been absolutely fantastic! First of all, I must give full marks to its appearance. The streamlined body design is very dynamic and attracts a lot of attention every time I park near the Petronas Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur. Speaking of performance, its 0-100 km/h acceleration in 4.1 seconds is indeed impressive. Overtaking on Malaysian highways becomes effortless. However, I deducted one point, mainly because the fuel consumption of 10.3L/100km is a bit high in city traffic. Especially during rush hours in Kuala Lumpur, the fuel consumption rises even more due to frequent stop-and-go situations. Overall, this car performs excellently on Malaysia's roads. The rear-wheel-drive design ensures stable cornering, and the 3.0L turbocharged engine delivers abundant power. Although it comes with a hefty price tag, it is definitely worth the value as a sports car. The only minor regret is that in Malaysia's hot weather, the car's air conditioning takes a while to fully cool down. But this doesn't affect my love for it, as driving it always brings me immense joy.

As the owner of the 2019 GR Supra 3.0L, after driving it for almost two years, I genuinely feel that this car performs perfectly for the road conditions in Malaysia! I’d rate its performance 4 out of 5. It’s mainly because it’s really sufficient for daily driving—during Kuala Lumpur’s morning traffic jams, the low-end torque kicks in quickly, making it effortless to follow traffic; on weekends, driving through the winding roads of Genting Highlands, the 388 horsepower delivers as soon as you step on it, and the rear-wheel-drive handling feels fantastic in corners. The only downside is the stock suspension is quite stiff, so bumps and uneven roads result in noticeable vibrations. But hey, it’s a sports car, so I can accept this minor issue. For the interior, I’d give it full marks! Although this is a two-door sports car, it doesn’t feel cramped at all once you’re inside. The Alcantara and leather combination materials feel very premium, the 8.8-inch infotainment screen operates smoothly, and the HUD (head-up display) is super convenient for checking speed on the highway—it fully meets my expectations of a "driver’s cockpit." Safety is absolutely flawless, full marks again! Rainy days are common in Malaysia, and features like automatic emergency braking and lane departure warning have helped me avoid several dangerous situations—once on the Penang highway, the car automatically reduced speed when the vehicle in front suddenly braked sharply. Also, the blind-spot monitor is very sensitive when changing lanes. With 7 airbags and vehicle stability control, I feel very secure when driving. Overall, except for the minor drawback of a slightly stiff suspension, the Supra is almost perfect in my eyes. Whether it’s daily commuting or weekend mountain driving, it gives me an immense amount of driving pleasure!

As the owner of the 2019 GR Supra 3.0L, after driving it for almost two years in Malaysia, what makes me most proud is its appearance — a perfect 5 out of 5! Every time I park at KLCC or head to the mountain roads in Genting on weekends, the car draws all the attention. Its low-slung body and streamlined lines, especially that fastback design, turn heads even when I’m driving on Kuala Lumpur's highways. Even supercar owners in the next lane can’t help but take a second look. The red body shines especially bright under the tropical sunlight, and my friends all say this is exactly what a sports car should look like! I'd give the interior a 4 out of 5, mainly because the materials and design are pretty good, but there are some minor flaws in the details. The Alcantara seats have great support and hold you in place firmly when driving on mountain roads, but the manual adjustment is a bit troublesome, and it takes a while to adjust the seat position every time. The 8.8-inch touchscreen responds quite quickly, and the CarPlay connection is smooth, but the lack of storage space is a downside—it’s a struggle even to find a spot for my phone, which is inconvenient for daily use. However, the overall build quality is still very solid. After all, it’s a performance car by Toyota, and I’m already quite satisfied with this performance!

As the owner of a 2019 Supra 3.0L, driving this car in Malaysia is simply amazing! First, about performance, I’d give it a full 5 points—absolutely no complaints. The 3.0T inline-six turbo engine is truly powerful. After the morning rush hour in Kuala Lumpur, when switching from Jalan Ampang to the LDP highway, flooring the accelerator instantly gives you that push-back feeling. The official 4.1 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h is no exaggeration, and overtaking feels extremely confident. With rear-wheel drive and a solid chassis, driving through the winding roads of Genting Highlands feels particularly stable. The steering wheel responds precisely to your every command, and the sense of control is just addictive. Even on rainy, slippery roads, the vehicle stability control keeps everything steady, so there’s no need to worry about skidding. However, I’d give the exterior 4 points. It’s not that it doesn’t look good, but the design feels a bit too “low-profile.” Among the supercars commonly seen on Malaysian roads, the Supra’s lines are smooth but lack the bold, stunning presence of a Lamborghini. That said, it still gets quite a lot of attention, especially at night when the LED headlights light up. Coupled with the low-slung body, it’s still very eye-catching when driven on the road. But if it were just a bit more aggressive, it would be perfect!
