In recent years, the competition in Malaysia's B-segment hatchback market has become increasingly intense. Consumers' requirements for entry-level cars are no longer limited to basic transportation but instead emphasize a balance between safety features, fuel efficiency, and practicality. The 2022 Perodua Myvi 1.5 AV, as a popular choice in this segment, has drawn considerable attention from family users due to its comprehensive active safety features, affordable pricing, and reliable fuel economy. This test drive aims to verify whether its static practicality and dynamic driving performance match its market positioning, providing potential buyers with a reference.

From the exterior perspective, the 2022 Myvi 1.5 AV continues Perodua's family design language, with an overall style leaning toward youthful and dynamic. The front features a large trapezoidal lower grille accented with chrome trim, while the sharp LED headlights and daytime running lights on both sides are connected, enhancing the visual width. The side profile showcases smooth lines, with a waistline extending from the front fender to the rear, adding a sense of dimensionality. The 15-inch alloy wheels have a simple design that coordinates well with the body proportions. At the rear, the horizontal LED taillight layout is connected in the center by a slim chrome strip, offering high recognition. Details such as automatic headlights and electrically folding side mirrors add to the convenience of daily use.

Upon entering the cabin, the interior predominantly features a dark gray color scheme, with a clearly organized dashboard. The tactile areas are made of hard plastic, but the textured surface treatment avoids appearing cheap. The 6.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system is placed atop the dashboard, with acceptable operational fluency and basic features like Bluetooth connectivity and basic navigation. However, the lack of support for Apple CarPlay or Android Auto is somewhat regrettable. In terms of configuration, the 1.5 AV version comes standard with keyless entry, push-button start, a manual single-zone air conditioning system with digital controls and memory functions, as well as a 220V front power outlet, covering daily usage needs. The seats are upholstered in fabric, with manually adjustable front seats and 60:40 split-folding rear seats. Although the fixed headrest design appears somewhat basic, folding the rear seats increases the trunk space from 277L to a larger volume, enhancing practicality.

As for dimensions, the 2022 Myvi 1.5 AV measures 3895mm in length, 1735mm in width, and 1515mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2500mm, positioning it at an average level in its class. In actual seating experience, a 175cm-tall front passenger has about one fist of headroom and ample legroom, while rear passengers have about two fists of legroom and one fist of headroom, fulfilling the daily transportation needs of a family. Regarding storage space, the door pockets can hold two bottles of mineral water, and there is a storage compartment under the center console. The front armrest console offers moderate space, meeting the storage expectations for this segment.

The powertrain features a 1.5L naturally aspirated engine delivering a maximum output of 103PS and a peak torque of 136Nm (Note: Torque data is not explicitly stated in the specification sheet but represents typical parameters for this engine). It is paired with a CVT transmission. During daily driving, the power response is relatively brisk at start-up, providing smooth acceleration that suits urban commuting. Pressing harder on the accelerator gradually increases power, but mid-to-high-speed overtaking requires some anticipation, as the late-stage acceleration feels a bit lacking. The driving modes only offer Economy and Normal modes. In Economy mode, throttle response softens, making it more suitable for regular cruising to save fuel. The official combined fuel consumption is 4.7L/100km, and real-world urban driving achieves about 5.5-6L/100km, while highway conditions can lower it to roughly 4.8L, showcasing respectable fuel economy.

In terms of handling, the steering wheel is lightweight, has minimal play, and offers precise directional control, making it suitable for female drivers or navigating narrow city roads. The chassis adopts a front MacPherson independent suspension and rear torsion beam non-independent suspension, with a tuning bias towards comfort. It can filter out most minor vibrations when passing over speed bumps or bumpy roads, but larger potholes result in noticeable jolts felt by rear passengers. Vehicle stability is acceptable at high speeds, and there’s no obvious floating sensation at speeds below 120km/h. When cornering, body roll is kept within an acceptable range. Overall, the handling performance is standard, with a greater focus on home use and comfort.

Safety features are a highlight of the 2022 Myvi 1.5 AV, equipped with six airbags (dual front airbags, side airbags, and front and rear curtain airbags), vehicle stability control, lane departure warning, forward collision warning, autonomous emergency braking, and other Level 2 driver assistance features as standard across the range. These comprehensive safety configurations are among the most attractive features for family users in this car segment. Additionally, the inclusion of rear parking sensors and a reverse camera enhances parking convenience.

As for driving comfort, the noise control inside the cabin is average. Below 80km/h, wind and tire noise are not noticeable, but as speeds exceed 100km/h, wind noise gradually increases, and engine noise becomes apparent at higher RPMs. Seat comfort is decent, and front-seat passengers won’t feel much fatigue during long drives. However, the backrest of the rear seats is a bit upright, which may cause some discomfort during extended sitting periods.

Overall, the core advantages of the 2022 Perodua Myvi 1.5 AV lie in its comprehensive safety features, reliable fuel economy, and practical space utilization. With a pricing of RM59,900, it offers exceptional value within its class. Compared to the Proton Iriz 1.6 Premium in the same segment, the Myvi has a slight edge in safety features and fuel efficiency, while the Iriz has better power output and chassis tuning geared towards sportiness. The 2022 Myvi 1.5 AV is more suitable for families prioritizing safety, fuel economy, and practicality. Especially as a first car or a commuter vehicle for urban use, its well-rounded characteristics meet most daily needs. If you’re looking for a family-oriented hatchback with comprehensive safety features, economical fuel consumption, and ample space, the Myvi 1.5 AV is worth considering.

Pros
CVT transmission is smooth, city commuting starts without sluggishness, and the power is sufficient for climbing Genting
Outstanding fuel consumption performance, approximately 5.2L in the city and 4.5L on the highway, consistent with official data
Rich safety features, with 6 airbags, active braking, etc. as standard, and 360-degree imaging is clear
Cons
The rear design is ordinary, lacks sharpness, and has little difference from the old model
The throttle needs to be deeply pressed during overtaking, and the power response is not quick enough
The interior has a lot of plastic parts, the inside of the door panels feels cheap, and the rear seats are relatively hard

As the owner of the 2022 Myvi 1.5 AV, having driven it for nearly a year, here’s my real experience in Malaysia~ Talking about performance, I’ll give it 4 stars. When commuting in Kuala Lumpur, the CVT gearbox is very smooth during traffic jams, and the start is not sluggish; taking my family to Genting Highlands on weekends, the power of the 1.5L naturally aspirated engine is just enough for climbing hills, it doesn’t feel too strained, but to overtake, you’ll need to press the accelerator a bit harder, as it’s not a performance car after all. The fuel consumption is surprisingly good, around 5.2L/100km with air conditioning on in the city, and about 4.5L on the highway, which aligns with the official figures. This is very affordable considering the fuel prices in Malaysia. Safety deserves a full 5 stars! With 6 airbags, vehicle stability control, and lane departure warning all as standard features, I had an incident on a village road in Penang where a motorcycle suddenly darted out, and the autonomous emergency braking system immediately intervened, helping me avoid a collision—it truly saved a life. The 360-degree camera is also very clear when reversing, making parking in the narrow old streets of Ipoh much easier. In terms of appearance, 4 stars are reasonable. The LED headlights and daytime running lights have high visibility under the bright Malaysian sun, and the car's body lines look sportier compared to previous models. Friends even commented that it doesn’t look like a car priced under 60,000 MYR. However, I find the rear design a bit plain; it would be even better if it were more striking. Overall, as a family car, the Myvi 1.5 AV performs well in Malaysia’s road conditions, offering top-notch safety features, sufficient performance, and an attractive look. Its value for money is indeed impressive!

As the owner of the 2022 Perodua Myvi 1.5 AV, after driving in Malaysia for almost a year, I’m overall quite satisfied! Let’s talk about the performance first, I’d give it 4 stars — in daily traffic in Kuala Lumpur, it follows smoothly with the CVT transmission and there’s no jerking during gear changes. Starting at green lights is not sluggish either; during weekends when I take my family to Genting Highlands, although the 1.5L naturally aspirated engine doesn't provide a push-back feeling when going uphill, pressing the accelerator deeper gives enough power, and the 10.2s acceleration is more than adequate for city driving. The fuel consumption is also a pleasant surprise. I commute daily on the LDP highway, and it averages about 5L/100km overall. Though slightly higher than the official 4.7L, it’s acceptable, especially when Malaysia's fuel prices have risen, this really saves some money. As for the exterior, I’d also give it 4 stars. The new LED headlights and daytime running lights look very sharp, and at night, it’s highly recognizable on the road. The body lines are smoother compared to the old model, and the 15-inch wheels paired with 185 tires don't feel too thin even on bumpy village roads. However, the rear design could be a bit sharper as it feels a bit too soft right now. But overall, it still fits the practical and enduring aesthetic that Malaysians generally prefer, and it’s not too flashy when parked under an apartment block. Overall, as a B-segment small car, achieving such performance at this price range makes it worth the value in my opinion!

As the owner of the 2022 Perodua Myvi 1.5 AV, after nearly a year of driving, here’s my honest review! The exterior gets a 4/5— the front LED headlights and blacked-out grille look quite sharp, making it stand out in KL’s traffic, but the rear design is a bit plain and doesn’t differ much from the older models. If it were more youthful, it would be perfect. However, I must give a full 5/5 for performance! The 1.5L naturally aspirated engine paired with the CVT transmission is extremely practical for road conditions in Malaysia— commuting daily on the LDP highway, it accelerates and overtakes with ease. The official 0-100km/h time is 10.2 seconds, but it feels more agile in real life; when taking the family to Genting Highlands on weekends, it climbs hills without any lack of power and doesn’t feel “weak” at all. The most surprising aspect is the fuel efficiency, with a combined consumption of only 4.7L/100km. A full tank costs around RM50 and lasts a week, which is incredibly economical in this era of rising fuel prices! In conclusion, while the exterior is not too flashy, it’s easy on the eyes, and the performance is definitely one of the best in its price range. For daily commutes and family outings, it’s highly capable. As a national car, I definitely made the right choice~

As a 2022 Myvi 1.5 AV owner, after nearly a year of driving, here’s my honest experience of using it daily in Malaysia! Let’s talk about the exterior first, I’d give it 4/5 — the LED headlights and streamlined design of the front look quite vibrant among the B-segment cars, especially at night with the automatic headlights on, the recognition is fairly high. However, the rear design is average, with not much difference from the previous model. If it could be made a bit more youthful, it would be even better, so I deducted 1 point. Interior is also 4/5: The 6.9-inch touchscreen on the center console operates smoothly, and the digital air conditioning panel is very user-friendly. Adjusting the temperature while stuck in traffic in KL is convenient without causing distractions. However, there’s a lot of plastic parts, especially the inner sides of the door panel, which feel a bit cheap to the touch. The rear seats, while being 60:40 foldable, are somewhat hard, and on long trips, my family complains about discomfort. If this could be improved, it would be perfect. The biggest surprise is the performance, which deserves a full 5/5! The 1.5L NA engine paired with a CVT is more than adequate for Malaysian roads. On my daily commute using the LDP highway, overtaking is easy with a quick throttle response, and it does 0-100 km/h in just 10.2 seconds, which is among the best in its class. Even when climbing hills (like the Genting Highlands), it doesn’t feel underpowered. The fuel efficiency is another pleasant surprise, at just 4.7L/100km. A full tank of 36L can last nearly 800 kilometers. With fluctuating fuel prices in Malaysia, this fuel economy has saved me quite a bit of money! Overall, as a family car, the Myvi 1.5 AV performs very well on Malaysia’s roads. Its performance exceeded expectations, and the minor flaws in the interior and exterior design don’t stop it from maintaining its status as the “national car”!
