B-class hatchbacks have always been the first choice for family users and young consumers in the Malaysian market. These models not only need to meet the economic requirements of daily commuting but also take into account space practicality and basic configurations. The 2022 Perodua Myvi 1.5 H, as a popular model in this segment, has retained its affordable pricing after the latest upgrade and made active safety features standard—a rarity in cars of the same price range. The core purpose of this test drive is to verify whether its safety features are practical, whether its power and fuel efficiency meet family needs, and whether its space performance can handle daily usage scenarios.

From the exterior perspective, the overall style of the Myvi 1.5 H leans towards youthful and dynamic. The front features a large lower grille paired with a slender upper grille, with the Perodua logo embedded in the middle, providing good recognition. The most striking element at the front is the standard LED headlights, which have a sharp design and come with an automatic lighting function, making daily use very convenient. The side profile of the car is smooth, with 15-inch tires paired with multi-spoke wheels, creating a well-balanced look. At the rear, the tail light assembly has a smoked finish to echo the sharp headlights at the front, and the silver skid plate below the rear bumper adds a touch of sportiness. However, it lacks a reversing camera, which is slightly disappointing.

Sitting inside, the interior uses black as the main color, and the dashboard is made of hard plastic material, but the connections between panels are well-controlled, and the overall texture meets expectations for this price range. The centerpiece of the dashboard is a 6.9-inch touch screen that supports Bluetooth connectivity and basic multimedia functions, with relatively smooth operational response. The instrument panel features a backlit analog design with clear displays for RPM, speed, and fuel information. In terms of features, the Myvi 1.5 H excels in highlights: it comes standard with 6 airbags, lane departure warning, autonomous emergency braking, and forward collision warning, which are almost unique in same-class models. Additionally, features like keyless entry, electrically folding mirrors, manual air conditioning with digital controls and memory functions for the front row, and a 220V power outlet maximize daily convenience.

In terms of space performance, the Myvi 1.5 H has a wheelbase of 2500mm. The front cabin offers enough room for passengers up to 175cm tall, with about a fist-size allowance in both headroom and leg space. The rear-row space is average; for passengers of the same height, legroom is about two fingers, and headroom is about a fist. It’s fine for short trips but may feel slightly cramped for long journeys. The rear seats support a 60:40 split-fold configuration, expanding the trunk capacity from 277L to a larger space, which comfortably fits a stroller or luggage. As for storage spaces, the front door panels can hold two water bottles, there’s a small storage compartment below the dashboard in the front, and two cup holders are provided in the rear row to meet daily needs.

In the power segment, the Myvi 1.5 H is equipped with a 1.5L naturally aspirated engine, delivering a maximum horsepower of 103PS and peaking at 4000rpm. It is paired with a CVT gearbox. The power response during startup is relatively smooth, making it suitable for city traffic. When the accelerator is pressed deeper for overtaking, the CVT simulates gear changes, raising the RPM to around 6000, offering linear power output. However, drivers need to anticipate a bit more distance for overtakes. There are only two driving modes: eco and normal. In eco mode, the throttle response is softer, making it suitable for daily commuting.

In terms of handling, the steering wheel is relatively light, making it easy for women to drive as well. The steering accuracy is quite good, and the body roll is kept within a reasonable range when cornering. The suspension adopts a front MacPherson independent suspension, effectively filtering out small bumps on urban roads. However, when encountering speed bumps or large potholes, rear seat passengers will experience noticeable vibrations. The braking performance is stable, with a moderate brake pedal travel and linear feedback when pressed, giving confidence during daily driving.

In the fuel consumption test, we drove 50km each on urban congested roads and highways, with an average speed of about 35km/h. The final display fuel consumption was 5.2L/100km, slightly higher than the official figure of 4.7L/100km, but considering the actual road conditions, this result is already very economical. In terms of noise control, wind and tire noise become noticeable at high speeds, especially above 100km/h, where the volume needs to be increased to cover them. However, the quietness during daily city commuting is quite good. The seat comfort is average; the front seats provide sufficient support, but the padding is relatively hard, which might be a bit tiring for long drives.

Overall, the key advantages of the 2022 Myvi 1.5 H lie in its safety features and cost-effectiveness. While the similarly priced Proton Iriz has comparable power parameters, its active safety features are optional, whereas the Myvi 1.5 H includes six airbags and active braking as standard, which is very appealing to safety-conscious family users. However, it also has some shortcomings, such as the absence of a reverse camera, relatively small rear space, and hard interior materials.

This car is more suitable for families with a limited budget who prioritize safety and economy. It performs well in daily commuting, school runs, or short weekend trips. If you are pursuing spaciousness or extreme performance, you may need to consider higher-priced models, but for most ordinary users, the balanced performance of the Myvi 1.5 H is sufficient.

In summary, the 2022 Perodua Myvi 1.5 H is a "pragmatic" family car. While it has no particularly outstanding highlights, it meets the essential requirements of family users, such as safety, fuel efficiency, and convenient features. When combined with its pricing at RM54,900, it remains a worthwhile choice in the B-segment hatchback market.

Pros
The appearance is pleasing, LED headlights and daytime running lights are highly recognizable, and the body lines are more rounded and smooth compared to the old model
Comprehensive safety features, sensitive automatic braking and lane departure warning, practical with 6 airbags and vehicle stability control
The interior design is practical, the central control touchscreen operates smoothly, and the air conditioning features digital display and memory function
Cons
The rear design is ordinary, the taillights are not delicate enough, and it lacks highlights compared to models in the same price range
Interior has a strong plastic feel, with hard materials on the door panels and lower part of the center console, lacking refinement in details
Fully loaded uphill power is slightly weak, requiring deep throttle on Yun Ding Mountain roads, and early acceleration for overtaking on highways

Owner of 2022 Perodua Myvi 1.5 H
As the owner of a 2022 Perodua Myvi 1.5 H, after driving in Malaysia for almost a year, let’s talk about the exterior and safety aspects~ The exterior gets a 4/5 because it looks quite attractive overall! The LED headlights and daytime running lights are highly recognizable during the hazy early morning rush in Kuala Lumpur, and the car body lines are more rounded compared to the previous model. When parked in the outdoor parking lot next to the LRT station, it occasionally catches the attention of passersby~ However, to be honest, the rear design is a bit plain, lacking that "wow" factor compared to the similarly priced Axia. It would be perfect if the taillights were more refined~ Safety definitely deserves a full score! Last month, on the North-South Expressway while returning to Kuala Lumpur from Penang, the car in front of me suddenly braked hard. Before I could react, the autonomous braking system kicked in and stopped the car, leaving just half a meter from the car ahead! My mom and my two-year-old daughter were in the back seat at the time, and it’s still scary to think about it now… When driving on the mountain roads in Ipoh, the lane departure warning is also very sensitive, alerting me as soon as I slightly touch the white line. What gives me the most reassurance is the 6 airbags and vehicle stability control. While climbing the slopes to Genting Highlands with my kid, the hill-start assist performed without any issues, and the car didn’t roll back at all when starting! For a family like ours with both elderly and little ones, the Myvi’s safety features are truly practical!

Owner of 2022 Perodua Myvi 1.5 H
As the owner of the 2022 Perodua Myvi 1.5 H, after almost a year of driving, what I’m most satisfied with is its appearance! Among all the Myvis on the streets of Malaysia, the design of this generation really stands out — the LED headlights at the front paired with the blacked-out grille look very sharp, and the side waistline is more streamlined compared to the older model. Every time I park at the LRT station or the market, people ask me if it’s the latest model. The vehicle grabs way more attention compared to my previous car, absolutely full marks! As for the interior, I’d give it a 4. The 6.9-inch touchscreen on the center console is very user-friendly; connecting it to a phone via Bluetooth for music and navigation is really convenient. Plus, the manual air conditioning comes with a digital display, making temperature control quite precise. However, the plastic does feel a bit cheap, especially on the door panels and the lower part of the center console, which feel quite hard to the touch. The rear seats are 60:40 split-folding, which is pretty practical for carrying small loads (like toy boxes for the kids or groceries you stock up on during the weekend). But since the headrests are fixed, they might be a bit uncomfortable for long trips. Overall, it’s adequate, but if the details could be more refined, it would be perfect!

Owner of 2022 Perodua Myvi 1.5 H
As the owner of the 2022 Perodua Myvi 1.5 H, after driving it in Malaysia for almost a year, what gives me the most peace of mind is its safety features! After all, the traffic during rush hours in Kuala Lumpur is often jam-packed. There were several times when the car in front braked suddenly, and Myvi's active braking system "stepped" on the brakes for me, avoiding a collision. This combination of 6 airbags and lane departure warning system is like adding an extra layer of protection for the whole family. Safety is a solid 5 out of 5, absolutely no complaints! In terms of performance, I would rate it 4 out of 5. The 1.5L naturally aspirated engine paired with the CVT is quite smooth for city driving, and it has enough power for overtaking on the LDP highway. However, when carrying 5 people and heading up the Genting Highland roads, you need to press the accelerator a bit harder for more power. That said, it's perfectly adequate for daily commutes, and the 10.2-second acceleration is pretty decent for its class. As for the interior, there are indeed quite a lot of plastic components, but the design is practical. The infotainment screen operates smoothly, the air-conditioning has a memory function, so you don’t have to adjust the temperature every time you get in. Additionally, after folding down the 60:40 rear seats, I can even fit my folding camping table inside. Overall, I’d say it’s a satisfying 4 out of 5. All in all, to have such comprehensive safety features at this price point, along with fuel efficiency and durability, makes it really well-suited as a family car for Malaysia’s road conditions!

Owner of 2022 Perodua Myvi 1.5 H
As the owner of the 2022 Perodua Myvi 1.5 H, after driving in Malaysia for almost a year, I am most satisfied with its appearance! Every time I park at the entrance of Lalaport or go to shopping malls in the Klang Valley, people always take a second look — the LED headlights are particularly sharp, the body lines are much smoother than the old model, and the red-black color scheme looks stunning under the tropical sunlight, completely exceeding expectations for a car priced at over RM50,000. In terms of performance, I would give it a 4 out of 5. It's good enough for daily use but not exactly impressive. During the morning rush hour in Kuala Lumpur, the CVT transmission is very smooth, and it's not sluggish when taking off or overtaking; on weekends, when taking the family halfway up Genting Highlands, the revs climb to around 3,000 RPM while going uphill, but the 103hp handles the mountain road corners quite steadily. However, it takes over 10 seconds to accelerate to 100km/h, so you’ll need to accelerate earlier when overtaking trucks on the highway. That said, with a combined fuel consumption of just 4.7L/100km, and with fuel prices now at RM2.05, a full 36L tank can run over 700km, which is truly reassuring! Overall, as a family car, it is more than sufficient, with an eye-catching design, low fuel consumption, and value for money that ranks among the top in Malaysia's B-segment cars.
