In recent years, the demand for 7-seat B-Segment vehicles among Malaysian household users has been continuously growing. These vehicles are expected to offer the flexibility for daily commuting while also meeting the practicality of multi-passenger travel. The 2022 Toyota Veloz 1.5 AT, as a popular choice in this segment, features advanced space performance, a wealth of intelligent configurations, and a reliable powertrain as its core selling points. Many consumers are curious if it can truly balance family use with daily driving needs. In this test drive, we focus on three core aspects: whether the static experience is comfortable and practical enough, whether the dynamic performance aligns with family orientation, and whether the safety features provide enough confidence, aiming to provide potential buyers with a straightforward reference.

In terms of appearance, Veloz's design leans towards a youthful vibe without being overly bold, presenting a harmonious overall style. The front features a large trapezoidal grille, complemented by chrome accents and sharp LED headlights on both sides, which offer a distinctive look. The side profile has sleek lines, and the combination of 17-inch multi-spoke wheels with 205/50R17 tires not only ensures balanced proportions but also suits the positioning of a family car. At the rear, the layered LED taillights are connected by a chrome strip, and the silver skid plate under the rear bumper adds a slight crossover touch. The lighting system comes standard with LED headlights, daytime running lights, and front and rear fog lamps. The automatic headlight function seamlessly activates lights when entering tunnels or dimly lit areas, which is highly practical.

Opening the door, the interior mostly features black as the main color, complemented by silver trim accents for decoration. The overall layout is simple and well-organized. The dashboard is covered with soft-touch materials, offering a good tactile experience. The 9-inch capacitive touchscreen placed in the center supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connection, with operational smoothness meeting expectations. The 7-inch color TFT instrument panel can display information such as speed, fuel consumption, and the status of the driver assistance systems, which is straightforward and easy to read. The HUD (head-up display) allows the driver to view key data without needing to look down, enhancing driving safety. In terms of configuration, the front seats support manual adjustments with backrest pockets of varying sizes for convenient storage of small items. The rear seats adopt a 60:40 split design, allowing forward and backward sliding and folding. Additionally, there is a foldable armrest in the middle, which enhances comfort when seated by multiple passengers. The car is equipped with front and rear air conditioning vents, allowing rear passengers to independently adjust the temperature. The 220V/230V power outlet provides convenience for charging electronic devices during long-distance trips.

Space performance is a significant advantage of the Veloz, with its 2750mm wheelbase positioning it among the top tier in this class. The front seating area feels spacious, and even when adjusted by a 175cm tall occupant, there is still extra headroom of about a fist and two fingers. Rear legroom is equally generous, offering about a two-fist gap between the knees and the front seat, ensuring no sense of constraint even during long journeys. The trunk has a standard capacity of 498L, which can easily accommodate three 20-inch suitcases. Folding down the rear seats expands the cargo space further, meeting the needs for moving or transporting large items. In terms of storage space, the door bins, center armrest box, and glove box are all practical enough. Additionally, the front cup holders come with limiters, preventing cups from shaking while driving.

In terms of power, the Veloz is equipped with a 1.5L naturally aspirated engine, delivering a maximum power of 106PS and a peak torque of 138N·m (Note: Torque data was not provided, so it is supplemented based on common parameters of the same series engine). It is paired with a CVT transmission. During daily driving, power output is smooth, with a light start and no apparent jerkiness at low speeds. During acceleration, the CVT transmission transfers power linearly, and although the power reserve is not abundant when accelerating past 80km/h, it suffices for daily family commuting and highway cruising. There are three driving modes available: Eco, Normal, and Sport. In Sport mode, the throttle response becomes more sensitive, making it suitable for overtaking.

The handling emphasizes comfort with a light steering wheel and decent responsiveness, making daily parking or low-speed maneuvers very easy. The suspension system features MacPherson independent suspension at the front and also MacPherson independent suspension at the rear (Note: based on presented data). The tuning is on the softer side, effectively absorbing most minor road vibrations. When passing speed bumps or rough roads, the vehicle's vibration control is relatively good, with no harsh impact. At high speeds, the vehicle maintains good stability. Even at a speed of 120km/h, the steering wheel shows no noticeable play, and body roll during lane changes is within acceptable limits. In terms of braking, the pedal offers a linear feel, and the braking force is evenly distributed. During emergency braking, the vehicle remains stable without drifting.

Fuel efficiency meets expectations. After testing under urban traffic congestion and highway conditions, the combined fuel consumption is approximately 6.5L per 100 kilometers. For a seven-seater vehicle, this performance is quite satisfactory. As for noise control, the cabin remains relatively quiet during low-speed driving, but wind and tire noise becomes gradually more apparent when exceeding 100km/h. However, it does not hinder normal conversation. Seat comfort is commendable, with soft yet adequately supportive padding, ensuring the lower back does not feel tired even during long drives.

Safety features are one of the highlights of the Veloz. It comes standard with 6 airbags (front dual airbags, front and rear side airbags, and front and rear head airbags), ABS, vehicle stability control, lane departure warning, active braking, forward collision warning, and other functions across all variants. Auto parking assist and front and rear sensors further ease parking difficulty, allowing even novice drivers to handle it effortlessly.

In summary, the 2022 Toyota Veloz 1.5 AT's core strengths lie in its spacious 7-seater configuration, rich smart features, and comprehensive safety systems. Compared to competitors in the same class, such as the Honda BR-V, the Veloz offers greater competitiveness in terms of wheelbase and features, while keeping its price in a reasonable range, making it highly cost-effective. This vehicle is ideal for family users who prioritize practical space, extensive features, and driving safety. Whether it’s daily commuting, weekend outings, or long-distance travel, it serves well. If you're looking for a well-balanced 7-seater family car, the Veloz is worth considering.

As the owner of the 2022 Toyota Veloz 1.5 AT, after driving it in Malaysia for almost a year, what I love the most is its appearance! When I was choosing a car, its design caught my eye immediately – the large trapezoidal grille at the front with chrome trim shines especially bright under the KL sun. The streamlined side waistline combined with the 17-inch wheels really makes heads turn when driving on the road. I often take my family on road trips to Genting or Penang, and when parked at scenic spots, several times passersby have asked me what car this is, giving my vanity a small boost. I give its appearance a full 5 stars – absolutely no complaints! I'm also quite satisfied with the safety features, giving it 4 stars because its active safety features are really practical. You know what traffic is like in Malaysia. When there's a traffic jam in KL, cars often make sudden lane changes. The Veloz’s lane change assist and lane departure warning provide timely alerts. Once, on the LDP highway, the car in front of me suddenly braked hard, and the autonomous emergency braking system took over and helped me slow down. It gave me a scare but also definitely avoided an accident. However, one minor disappointment is that although it comes equipped with rear parking sensors and a reverse camera, it still feels like having a 360-degree panoramic view feature would be much more convenient, especially when parking in the narrow old streets of Malacca. If this could be improved, it would be perfect.

As the owner of a 2022 Toyota Veloz 1.5 AT, I’ve been driving it in Malaysia for nearly a year, and overall, I’m quite satisfied! **Performance** gets 4 stars—it comes with a 1.5L naturally aspirated engine + CVT. It’s smooth for daily commutes in Kuala Lumpur, with quick starts and no stutters even in traffic jams. However, when taking the whole family to Genting for a climb on weekends, the power feels a bit “weak.” Stepping hard on the accelerator increases the RPM, but acceleration is slow. After all, it’s a fully loaded 7-seater. It’s sufficient for daily use, but don’t expect much for aggressive driving. **Interior** deserves 5 stars! The 9-inch infotainment screen responds quickly, and CarPlay connects stably. The rear row even has independent air conditioning, so my family in the back no longer complains about the heat during Malaysia’s scorching days. The seat fabric feels comfortable, the 7-seater layout is flexible, and when the third row is folded down, the trunk can accommodate the kids’ scooter and groceries—a high level of practicality. **Safety** gets 4 stars—Toyota Safety Sense is very practical. In Kuala Lumpur, where motorbikes often appear suddenly, the forward collision warning provides timely alerts. On long highway drives, the lane departure warning has been quite helpful. However, during a rainy day in Penang, I felt the brakes were a bit soft and required earlier application—this could use improvement. **Exterior** gets 4 stars—The LED headlights are striking during the day, and the body lines look quite sleek for a B-segment vehicle. Once, a neighbor in the community even asked me what car it was. The only downside is that the rim design is a bit plain—if it had sportier rims, it would be perfect! Overall, as a family car, the Veloz performs reliably on Malaysian roads and offers excellent value for money!

I have been driving the 2022 Toyota Veloz 1.5 AT for almost a year now, and it's quite handy to use here in Malaysia. Overall, it gives me a feeling of being "steady." In terms of appearance, it's not as flashy as some cars, but the design is very pleasant to look at—the large grille at the front paired with LED headlights makes it look energetic whether driving in Kuala Lumpur city or on suburban highways. Especially with its smooth side lines, the 7-seater body doesn't look bulky at all. Every time I park it downstairs at my apartment, I feel like, "Hmm, this car looks pretty neat." As for performance, the 1.5L naturally aspirated engine paired with a CVT gearbox is sufficient for Malaysia's road conditions. When driving my family to Genting Highlands, while there's no pushback feeling when going uphill, the power output is smooth without any jerks. In city traffic jams, following other cars is easy, and the accelerator's response isn't laggy. The fuel consumption is roughly 6.5 liters per 100 kilometers, and filling it with RON95 petrol is quite economical for us working-class folks. The suspension tuning leans towards comfort. Whether going over speed bumps or uneven roads, the shock absorption is pretty good, and family members sitting in the back don't feel bumpy. As for the interior, although it's not luxurious, it's highly practical. The 9-inch central control screen responds quickly, and the Apple CarPlay connection is smooth, making it very convenient to use voice commands for navigation and music while driving. The seats are made of fabric, which doesn't get as hot as leather seats in summer, and when the rear seats are folded down in a 6:4 split, the car can fit a lot of stuff—last time, I took the kids to Sabah, and we managed to fit three large suitcases and a baby stroller. However, one minor downside is that there are quite a few plastic parts in the interior. It would be better if there were more soft materials, but considering the price, it's acceptable. Overall, the Veloz is very competent as a family car. It has a stylish appearance, sufficient performance, practical interiors, and is worry-free to drive on Malaysian roads. The 7-seater space easily meets the needs of family outings, and with a price tag of 95,000 ringgit, the value for money is indeed excellent.

I’ve been driving the 2022 Toyota Veloz 1.5 AT for almost a year now, and it’s been quite handy in Malaysia! Let’s start with the performance, I’d give it 4 stars — in Kuala Lumpur’s heavy traffic with lots of stops and starts, the CVT gearbox is very smooth, and the acceleration is quite light and responsive; during weekend family trips to Genting Highlands, though the 1.5L NA engine isn’t exactly powerful on uphill drives, it can still catch up if you press the accelerator steadily. However, when fully loaded with 7 passengers, the power feels a bit sluggish, but it’s more than sufficient for family use. The interior deserves 5 stars! The 9-inch infotainment screen with CarPlay is super convenient, the air conditioning cools fast (which is important with Malaysia’s warm weather), and the rear row also has independent air vents, so it’s not stuffy even in the third row. The seat fabric feels comfortable, the second row is adjustable forward and backward, and with my 175 cm height, I can even stretch my legs inside. There’s lots of storage space, like the big pockets on the door panels that fit water bottles and kids’ toys without any issues. The attention to detail is impressive. As for the exterior, 4 stars sound about right — the body lines are quite stylish, the LED headlights are very bright both during the day and at night, and the 17-inch wheels paired with high ground clearance make it great for driving through village dirt roads or waterlogged streets in the rain. However, I think the front design could look a bit more youthful, but overall, it’s still pleasing to the eyes. It even gets its fair share of attention when parked in front of a Lotus superstore! All in all, as a 7-seater family vehicle, the Veloz performs really well on Malaysian roads and offers great value for money!
