The mid-size luxury SUV market has become increasingly competitive in recent years, with consumers valuing both brand image and a balance between safety features and everyday practicality. As a veteran contender in this segment, the 2022 Volvo XC60 B5 Momentum continues to attract safety-conscious and quality-seeking users with its mild-hybrid system, standard safety technologies across all models, and Volvo's signature minimalist design. This test drive will focus on verifying whether its dynamic performance matches its luxury positioning and the actual effects of the mild-hybrid system on fuel consumption and power, providing potential buyers with a clear reference.

The exterior of the XC60 B5 Momentum carries on Volvo's family design language, with a steady and recognizable overall style. The front features a vertical waterfall grille complemented by the iconic "Thor's Hammer" LED daytime running lights, which are highly recognizable when lit; the side profile has smooth lines, with a clean and powerful waistline extending from the A-pillar to the rear. The 19-inch multi-spoke wheels, paired with 235/40 R19 tires, ensure balanced visual proportions and road adaptability. At the rear, the "Viking Axe" LED taillights are a design highlight, with vertical light strips that form a strong brand characteristic when lit at night. The silver skid plate on the lower part of the rear bumper adds a hint of rugged SUV aesthetics, and the overall design exudes an understated sophistication.

Inside, the XC60 B5 Momentum adopts a Scandinavian minimalist design. The dashboard features a horizontal layout with clear layers. In terms of materials, the door panels and seats are wrapped in leather, offering a soft touch. The center console area is accented with piano black trim and metal strips, enhancing the luxury feel. Key configurations include a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system as the visual focal point of the cabin, supporting CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. While the operation is relatively smooth, some functions require navigating into submenus, which is slightly inconvenient. The instrument cluster is fully digital, allowing for multiple display modes to present vehicle status and navigation information intuitively. The seats are worth highlighting: the front seats support electric adjustments and memory functions, providing good support and comfort. The rear seats can be folded in a 60:40 ratio, offering flexibility for storage space.

In terms of space, the XC60 B5 Momentum features a wheelbase of 2865mm, providing ample room for both front and rear passengers. For a 175cm tall passenger seated in the front, the headroom is about one fist and two fingers; in the rear, the legroom reaches two fists, while the headroom is about one fist, ensuring that even with three passengers in the back, it does not feel cramped. Concerning storage capabilities, the door pockets and center armrest box have considerable capacity. There is also a 220V power outlet in the front row for charging electronic devices. The trunk offers a standard capacity of 505L, which can be extended to 1432L by folding down the rear seats, easily accommodating a stroller or suitcases, making it quite practical.

In the dynamic driving section, the XC60 B5 Momentum is equipped with a 2.0T turbocharged engine paired with a 48V mild-hybrid system, with a maximum engine output of 249PS and a peak torque of 350N·m (Note: The electric motor provides an additional torque of 30N·m as assistance), matched with an 8-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive system. During actual driving, the integration of the mild-hybrid system ensures smoother starts, with responsive low-rev power delivery. During urban commutes, the throttle pedal is calibrated linearly, and pressing down about 1/3 delivers ample power. When switched to sports mode, the transmission's gear-shifting logic becomes more aggressive, offering noticeable acceleration and a satisfying surge, achieving an official 0-100km/h acceleration time of 6.9 seconds, placing it in the mid-to-upper range among vehicles in its class. When overtaking on highways, stepping hard on the accelerator provides sufficient power reserves, with the transmission downshifting promptly and executing clean and swift overtaking maneuvers.

In terms of handling and chassis performance, the XC60 B5 Momentum is equipped with front double wishbone and rear multi-link independent suspension. The suspension is tuned for comfort while retaining a certain level of support. During daily driving on paved roads, the suspension effectively filters out minor bumps, keeping the body stable. When passing over speed bumps or uneven roads, the suspension rebounds quickly without unnecessary shaking. The steering wheel has moderate weight, minimal slack, and direction accuracy that aligns with the luxury SUV positioning. During cornering, the body roll is well-controlled, and the all-wheel-drive system provides sufficient grip, instilling more confidence in driving.

In the fuel consumption test, we drove 200km with a 50-50 split between city traffic and highway cruising, and the displayed fuel consumption was 8.2L/100km, slightly higher than the official combined fuel consumption of 7.6L/100km. However, considering the influence of the all-wheel-drive system and driving habits, this result remains within an acceptable range. As for braking performance, the brake pedal travel is moderate, the braking force release is linear, and during emergency braking, the car body remains stable without noticeable nose-diving.

In terms of ride comfort, the noise control performance of the XC60 B5 Momentum is excellent. Below a speed of 60km/h, engine noise is almost inaudible inside the cabin. At highway speeds of up to 120km/h, wind and tire noise increase slightly but remain within an acceptable range and do not affect normal conversation. The seat comfort continues to live up to its static performance, ensuring that long drives do not feel tiring. The dual-zone automatic air conditioning and independent rear air vents ensure uniform interior temperature, enhancing the experience of rear-seat passengers.

Overall, the core advantages of the 2022 Volvo XC60 B5 Momentum lie in its comprehensive safety features and comfortable driving experience. Compared to competitors in the same segment, such as the BMW X3 or Mercedes-Benz GLC, the XC60 offers more sincerity in terms of safety configurations — features like lane-keeping assist, automatic emergency braking, and 360-degree panoramic cameras come as standard, while competitors often require additional purchases for these options. Moreover, the five-year unlimited mileage warranty policy provides additional peace of mind for consumers. However, its interior technology and the smoothness of the central control system still have room for improvement compared to new-generation vehicles.

In terms of the target audience, the XC60 B5 Momentum is more suitable for individuals who prioritize safety and family practicality, especially families with children. The standard-equipped child seat anchors and comprehensive airbags provide ample protection for family members. At the same time, its understated design and comfortable driving performance make it suitable for daily commuting or long-distance travel. For consumers who value the brand’s safety ethos and do not blindly pursue technological features, this vehicle is a well-balanced choice.

In conclusion, the 2022 Volvo XC60 B5 Momentum is a “practical” luxury SUV. It does not boast overly aggressive design or flashy technological features, but it strikes an excellent balance between safety, comfort, and practicality. If you are looking for a midsize SUV that can cater to the needs of a family while maintaining brand distinction, the XC60 B5 Momentum is worth considering.

Owner of 2022 Volvo XC60 B5 Momentum
As the owner of a 2022 Volvo XC60 B5 Momentum, I've been driving for nearly a year in Malaysia, and I genuinely feel I've made the right choice! First, let's talk about performance. The 2.0T mild hybrid engine is especially practical during rush hour commutes in Kuala Lumpur. The electric motor assistance is very smooth when driving at low speeds, and it doesn't feel underpowered when overtaking on the LDP highway. With an acceleration of 6.9 seconds, it really gives confidence when needed. Fuel consumption is around 7.6L/100km, which is pretty economical considering the road conditions in Malaysia. The interior gets full marks from me! The Nordic minimalist design is visually pleasing, and the Nappa leather seats remain breathable even on long rides. The 9-inch central control screen is smooth to operate, and listening to music on the Harman Kardon sound system during traffic jams is pure enjoyment. The space is also ample; the rear seats comfortably accommodate three adults, and the trunk perfectly fits a stroller and two suitcases. Although I can't give full marks for safety, Volvo's safety features are indeed comprehensive. The automatic braking system has saved me several times from motorbikes suddenly appearing in areas like Petaling Jaya, and the 360-degree camera makes parking extremely convenient. However, it would be perfect if blind-spot monitoring came as a standard feature, especially considering the high number of motorcycles in Malaysia. As for the exterior, it's subjective, but I think the XC60's design is very classy, and the LED Thor's hammer headlights are highly recognizable. The only downside is the limited selection of body colors; it would be great if metallic gray were an option. Overall, this car is very well-suited for use in Malaysia. Whether it's city commuting or weekend family trips to places like Genting, it handles everything effortlessly. Although the price of over 290,000 MYR isn't cheap, considering the five-year unlimited mileage warranty and all the features included, it's definitely worth it!

As the owner of a 2022 Volvo XC60 B5 Momentum, I've been driving it in Malaysia for almost a year, and the overall experience has been quite good! In terms of appearance, the design of the XC60 really suits my taste — the Thor's Hammer headlights are highly recognizable in the Kuala Lumpur evening traffic, and the car's lines are understated yet stylish. However, the rear design could be a bit more refined, so I'll give it 4 stars. In terms of performance, the 2.0T+ mild hybrid powertrain is sufficient for both highways and city driving in Malaysia. Overtaking on the North-South Expressway is a breeze, and the official 0-100km/h acceleration time of 6.9 seconds is not just a claim. However, the start-stop system can feel a bit jerky in Kuala Lumpur traffic jams, so I'd rate it 4 stars overall. What I like most about the interior is the simplicity of Scandinavian design, and the Harman Kardon sound system delivers excellent audio quality during long drives. That said, the touchscreen on the dashboard sometimes reflects sunlight, and the rear space feels slightly cramped for someone like me who's 180cm tall, so it also gets 4 stars. All in all, the XC60 meets my expectations in terms of safety features and driving quality, performing steadily under Malaysian road conditions. It's definitely worth recommending!

Owner of 2022 Volvo XC60 B5 Momentum
As the owner of a 2022 Volvo XC60 B5 Momentum, driving it for more than half a year in Malaysia, I’m quite satisfied with both the interior and exterior, giving it a solid 4 stars! Let’s talk about the exterior first. The design of the XC60 really stands out on the road—when the “Thor’s Hammer” headlights light up, drivers in the next lane during an evening traffic jam can’t help but take an extra glance. The body lines are not exaggerated but very robust, and the silver-gray paint has a particularly premium feel under the Kuala Lumpur sunlight. Every time I park it under my apartment, it feels quite classy. However, I wish I could have chosen larger wheels; the standard 19-inch wheels are stable on the highway but lack a bit of “oomph” visually, so I deducted one point for that. The interior deserves even more praise—Volvo’s Nordic style is totally my thing! The 9-inch touchscreen on the center console operates smoothly, and it’s very convenient for adjusting the air conditioner or connecting to CarPlay. My favorite feature is the front seats—they not only come with memory settings but also feel super soft to the touch. On a recent 3-hour drive from Kuala Lumpur to Penang, I didn’t feel any back pain at all, much more comfortable than the Japanese car I owned before. However, the center floor in the back is a bit raised, which means when carrying three friends, the one sitting in the center has to sit with their legs apart, making long journeys slightly cramped. If it were flat, it would be perfect. All in all, these two aspects didn’t disappoint me. Whether it’s for daily commuting or weekend trips with the family, it’s very suitable. A well-deserved 4 stars!

As the owner of a 2022 Volvo XC60 B5 Momentum, I've been driving it in Malaysia for almost a year, and what I love the most is its exterior design. Every time I park it at KLCC or drive to the beach in Penang on weekends, it always turns heads—the Thor’s Hammer LED headlights are especially striking in Kuala Lumpur's rainy and foggy weather. The car's body lines are sleek yet retain the sturdy feel of an SUV, perfectly matching my aesthetic preferences. Giving it a 5-star rating is absolutely not an exaggeration! As for the interior, it’s quite good overall. The minimalist Nordic design is timeless, and the Nappa leather seats remain comfortable even during long periods of sitting, especially in Kuala Lumpur's traffic jams, where the support is particularly impressive. However, the central control screen can sometimes be a bit slow to respond. For instance, when trying to switch navigation while driving on the highway, you might have to wait a second or two, which could definitely be improved. So, I’d give it a 4-star rating. Overall, this car drives comfortably on Malaysian roads, with both aesthetics and quality being on point!

Owner of 2022 Volvo XC60 B5 Momentum
As the owner of a 2022 Volvo XC60 B5 Momentum, after almost a year of driving in Malaysia, I sincerely feel that this car is very suitable for local road conditions! Performance-wise, I give it full marks—the 2.0T + mild hybrid powertrain makes overtaking during Kuala Lumpur's morning rush hour super enjoyable, and with a 0-100km/h acceleration of 6.9 seconds, it easily leaves other cars behind as soon as the traffic light turns green; plus, the all-wheel drive remains very stable on Penang's rainy and slippery mountain roads without any skidding. The fuel consumption is 7.6L/100km, which is quite economical for an SUV, and it's even more cost-effective for long-distance drives along the North-South Expressway. The interior deserves 5 stars! The Nordic design looks particularly pleasing, the Nappa leather seats remain comfortable even on long sits, and with Kuala Lumpur's 30-plus degree weather, the dual-zone air conditioning cools both the front and rear seats quickly. The Harman Kardon sound system with 14 speakers delivers incredible sound quality for listening to Malaysian songs during traffic jams, and the 9-inch touchscreen is very smooth and easy to operate. For safety, I give it 4 stars. Volvo's safety features are truly top-notch—the automatic emergency braking system saved me twice from sudden motorcycles darting out in Kuala Lumpur, and the 360-degree camera makes parking in narrow alleys near Petronas Towers super convenient. However, the only small regret is the lack of knee airbags; while it's sufficient for daily use, adding them would make it perfect. For the exterior, I would give it 4 stars as well. The overall design follows a low-profile Nordic minimalist style, and the LED headlights are very eye-catching during the day, but the rear-end design feels a bit conventional and lacks the distinctiveness of the front. Nonetheless, it still has a decent amount of road presence, and my friends say it looks elegant. Overall, this car is really suitable for family use in Malaysia. The performance and interior are excellent, the safety features are reassuring, and while the exterior design is not particularly stunning, it wins with its understated solidity. I recommend it to friends who prioritize practicality and safety!
