As Malaysia's sports car market gradually shifts towards "performance and daily balance," many consumers are starting to look for two-door sports cars that can both provide driving pleasure and practicality. The 2023 Toyota GR Supra 3.0 AT precisely targets this niche demand. As a classic model under Toyota's performance sub-brand GR, it not only continues the legacy of the inline-six-cylinder turbocharged engine but also adds multiple intelligent safety features. Through this test drive, we will focus on assessing whether it truly strikes a balance between daily drivability and track potential.

From the exterior design, the GR Supra 3.0 AT perfectly aligns with the sporty positioning of a sports car. The overall lines are sleek and low, with a large-sized lower grille at the front paired with slim LED headlights. The front lip spoiler enhances aerodynamics and adds a high level of recognition. The waistline along the side of the vehicle stretches from the fender to the rear, complemented by 19-inch dual five-spoke wheels (front tires 255/35ZR19, rear tires 275/35ZR19), which emphasize the wide-bodied stance of a rear-wheel-drive sports car. The dual exhaust outlets on each side and the small spoiler on the rear are the finishing touches, while the LED taillights have a smoked finish that delivers a clear visual effect when illuminated at night.

Inside the car, the interior is driver-centric in layout, with an overall style leaning toward simplicity and practicality. The dashboard is wrapped in soft-touch materials, accented with silver trim, giving it a texture that's above average among sports cars in its class. The 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system supports basic multimedia functions, while the HUD head-up display and the digital+analog combination instrument cluster clearly showcase core information like speed and RPM, allowing the driver to focus on driving. In terms of configuration, the entire lineup comes standard with dual-zone automatic climate control, a 12-speaker audio system, keyless entry and start, as well as seven airbags, lane change assist, automatic emergency braking, and other active safety features, ensuring sound safety performance. However, the manually adjustable front seats are a slight disappointment at this RM650K price point.

In terms of space, as a two-door, two-seater sports car, the front-row seating space of the GR Supra 3.0 AT is sufficiently roomy. Passengers up to 180cm tall will find both head and legroom comfortable. The trunk offers a capacity of 290 liters, which, while not spacious, is enough to fit two carry-on suitcases or daily shopping items, making it more practical than some pure track-centric sports cars. Interior storage spaces are limited, relying primarily on the center armrest box and door panel pockets, which suffice for storing small everyday items.

For dynamic driving, the performance of the 3.0L inline-six-cylinder turbocharged engine stands out as the main highlight. With a maximum output of 388PS and a peak torque maintained between 1,800-5,000rpm, paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission, the power response is very direct. When switched to Sport mode, the throttle sensitivity significantly increases. With an official 0-100km/h acceleration time of 4.1 seconds, the on-road experience provides a strong pushback feeling, with ample power reserves for mid-range overtaking, fully satisfying performance enthusiasts' needs.

In terms of handling, the MacPherson struts in the front and the multi-link rear independent suspension are tuned on the stiffer side. The steering wheel is highly precise with minimal slack, and the car's body roll is well-controlled during cornering, maintaining overall stability. When dealing with urban bumpy roads, the suspension filters out most minor vibrations, though it still provides noticeable feedback over speed bumps, which is in line with a sports car's tuning characteristics. The rear-wheel-drive layout offers agile rear dynamics; turning off the stability control system allows for some drifting potential, but during daily driving, the system intervenes promptly, ensuring safety.

In terms of fuel consumption, the official combined fuel consumption is 10.3L/100km. When driving in the city, it is approximately 12-13L/100km, and on highways, it can drop to 8-9L/100km. For a 3.0T six-cylinder engine, this performance is considered normal for its class. The braking system uses front and rear ventilated discs, with responsive braking and linear pedal force. The body remains stable during emergency braking, providing a strong sense of safety.

As for noise control, wind noise and tire noise are well managed during regular cruising, but wind noise becomes more noticeable at high speeds. However, in sport mode, the engine sound is amplified through the audio system, enhancing the driving atmosphere instead. Although the seats are manually adjustable, they offer good support and remain comfortable during long drives.

Overall, the core advantage of the 2023 GR Supra 3.0 AT lies in its balance—it offers the performance experience of a six-cylinder turbo engine while also providing the practicality and safety features needed for daily driving. Compared to the BMW Z4 (its platform sibling) in the same segment, it is cheaper and better equipped, offering higher value for money. When compared to the Porsche 718 Cayman, it may lack in brand premium but has better power specifications and acceleration performance.

This car is suitable for two types of buyers: first, consumers who seek performance but also need a daily commuting vehicle, as its practicality and safety features meet the needs of city driving; second, driving enthusiasts who occasionally enjoy track days, as its six-cylinder engine and rear-wheel-drive layout provide plenty of driving pleasure.

In summary, the 2023 Toyota GR Supra 3.0 AT is a "versatile performer" two-door sports car that strikes a good balance between performance and practicality. In the Malaysian market, within a price range of 650,000 MYR, it is an excellent choice for combining driving excitement with everyday usability.

As the owner of a 2023 GR Supra 3.0 AT who has been driving in Malaysia for over half a year, the things I most want to talk about are the interior and safety features. First, let's talk about the interior. I give it 4 out of 5 because the overall texture is indeed excellent, but there are some minor regrets in the details. For instance, the Alcantara material on the center console feels very premium, and the metal trim adds a sporty vibe. Especially that 8.8-inch central control screen, which is super convenient for CarPlay navigation when stuck in Kuala Lumpur traffic. However, for a sports car that costs over 600,000 MYR, the seats are manually adjustable. Every time I go on a long trip, adjusting the backrest takes quite some time, which can be a bit of a hassle in Malaysia's hot summer. If it could be upgraded to electric adjustment, it would be perfect. Next, speaking of safety, I have to give it full marks! On Malaysia's highways, you often encounter cars suddenly changing lanes, and the Supra's active braking and lane departure warning have saved me several times—once on the North-South Expressway, the car in front suddenly braked sharply, and the system immediately alerted me and started braking automatically, reacting even faster than I could. Moreover, with 7 airbags, lane change assist, and all these included features, I feel particularly at ease even when driving on mountain roads to Genting Highlands. Overall, while the interior has some minor drawbacks, the safety performance absolutely gives me peace of mind. For a daily-driven sports car, this is really important.

As the owner of the 2023 GR Supra 3.0 AT, having driven it in Malaysia for half a year, I truly feel it's worth every penny! Starting with the performance, I’d give it a solid 5 out of 5 without hesitation—the explosive power of the 3.0T inline-six turbo is absolutely incredible! Occasionally giving it a go on the highway after the morning rush in Kuala Lumpur, the 4.1-second 0-100 km/h acceleration pins me right into the seat. The rear-wheel drive handles exceptionally well on twisty mountain roads too, and the car feels as stable as if it's glued to the road while cornering. Overtaking on the East Coast Highway is an absolute breeze. As for the looks, there’s nothing to complain about. The fastback design paired with the low and wide stance makes it a showstopper at the KLCC parking lot. The sleek design glistening under Malaysia’s sunshine is incredibly stunning, and I just can’t help but take a second look every time I lock the car—it has that premium vibe. A perfect 5 in this aspect is totally justified. The interior loses a point, mainly due to the manually adjustable seats being a bit of a hassle—it takes a lot of turning to find the right position. That said, the 8.8-inch infotainment screen and 12-speaker sound system are pretty decent, and they work well for everyday use. Overall, I’m quite satisfied with the interior. All in all, as a sports car, its performance and looks have completely exceeded my expectations considering Malaysia’s road conditions. It absolutely hits the mark in both performance and style!

As the owner of the 2023 GR Supra 3.0 AT for almost half a year, I’m overall quite satisfied! Let me talk about safety first. In Kuala Lumpur, I often encounter cars that suddenly change lanes, and its automatic emergency braking and lane departure warning systems respond very promptly. Last time on the LDP highway, I almost got sideswiped by a car cutting lanes. The system directly applied a slight brake for me. The 7 airbags also provide extra peace of mind. A 4-star rating is well-deserved. As for the exterior, the streamlined body shines particularly brightly under the Malaysian sun, and the red paint gets a lot of attention. Every time I park at KLCC, people always give it a second look. My only minor regret is that the rear spoiler could have been sportier, so 4 stars seem fair. In terms of performance, the 3.0T engine provides an exhilarating experience when overtaking on the North-South Highway. The 4.1-second 0-100 km/h acceleration delivers a strong pushback feeling. The rear-wheel drive also offers stable handling on Genting’s mountain roads. The only downside is the fuel consumption of about 12 liters in city traffic, but that’s entirely acceptable for a sports car. A well-deserved 4-star rating!

As the owner of the 2023 GR Supra 3.0 AT, after driving it in Malaysia for almost half a year, the most impressive thing is still its appearance! Every time I park under KLCC or by the beach in Penang, it always attracts the attention of passersby, especially with its low-profile body and large wheels. Driving on the North-South Expressway, it’s simply a moving focal point. A solid 5 out of 5 rating. For the interior, I’d give it 4 stars. The overall craftsmanship is quite exquisite, and the Alcantara material feels very premium to the touch. The response of the central control screen is also fast. However, one small regret is that the manual seat adjustment can be a bit troublesome in Malaysia's high temperatures. Every time I get in the car, I have to twist and adjust for quite a while to get to a comfortable position. But overall, the sense of sportiness is well-constructed, and it's quite smooth for daily driving.

The experience of driving the 2023 Toyota GR Supra 3.0 AT in Malaysia for more than half a year has been truly extraordinary! In terms of performance, the acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.1 seconds feels especially exhilarating when overtaking on highways in Kuala Lumpur. With 388 horsepower and rear-wheel drive, the handling during cornering is very precise. However, while climbing the hilly roads in Penang, the throttle response occasionally feels a bit delayed, so I’d give it a 4 out of 5. The interior has a sporty design with carbon-fiber trim and Alcantara seats, which feel premium. The 8.8-inch infotainment screen is adequate. However, the manual seat adjustments are a bit inconvenient, and long drives can be tiring, so I’d also rate the interior 4 out of 5. As for safety, it deserves a full 5 stars! With 7 airbags, along with automatic braking and lane-keeping assist, the safety features offer great peace of mind, especially in Kuala Lumpur’s traffic jams. There was one time on the Sepang highway when I nearly rear-ended another car, but the automatic emergency braking intervened just in time and really saved me. The exterior sports a classic sports car design, and the streamlined body shape grabs a lot of attention. Particularly when driving along the coastal road in Malacca, I felt like the star of a movie. However, the paint is a bit thin and tends to chip easily from small stones, so I’d rate the exterior a 4 out of 5. Overall, the GR Supra performs well under Malaysia’s road conditions and is a sports car that grows on you the more you drive it!
