Specs

The competition in Malaysia's B-segment sedan market has been fierce in recent years. Consumers are not only concerned about the practicality for daily commuting but also demand higher safety features and intelligent functions. The 2024 Toyota Yaris G Limited, as a new option in this segment, boasts key features such as standard 7 airbags, Level 2 driving assistance, and a 360-degree panoramic camera. In this test drive, we will focus on verifying the configuration fulfillment and daily driving experience to see if it can meet the comprehensive needs of family users.

In terms of exterior design, the new car retains Toyota's youthful family-style look. The front features a large trapezoidal lower grille, paired with sharp LED headlight clusters. The daytime running lights wrap around the inner side of the lamp chamber in an L-shape, offering high recognition. The car's side profile features smooth lines, with a waistline that extends from the front fender to the rear, enhancing the muscular feel. The 16-inch alloy wheels have a simple design, paired with 195/50 R16 tires that balance grip and comfort. At the rear, the horizontal design of the LED taillight clusters connects with the chrome trim on the rear bumper, enhancing the overall visual width. The rear fog lamps are embedded on both sides of the bumper, meeting daily usage needs.

Step inside, and the interior is predominantly black, with the center console covered in soft-touch materials and accented with silver trim, offering a texture that ranks above average in its class. The 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system is positioned at the top of the center console, with decent operational smoothness, supporting Bluetooth and smartphone connectivity (requires additional connection). The instrument panel uses the New Optitron design, providing clear visibility of information such as RPM, speed, and fuel consumption. In terms of features, the Keyless entry and start function adds convenience for daily use, the front automatic air conditioning supports dual-zone adjustment, and the 6-speaker audio system provides adequate quality for everyday music listening. The seats are manually adjustable but offer decent support. The rear seats are equipped with a 60:40 split-folding design that can expand the trunk space. The trunk has a standard capacity of 286 liters, which can comfortably accommodate two 20-inch suitcases.

In terms of space, the car measures 4140mm×1730mm×1475mm, with a wheelbase of 2550mm, placing it among the mainstream dimensions for B-segment sedans. The front row offers ample space; a passenger with a height of 175cm will still have a fist's worth of headroom after adjusting the seat. The rear provides about two fists of legroom and one fist of headroom, sufficient for daily family use. The center seat has a low floor hump, making short-distance rides less cramped. For storage space, the door pockets can hold two bottles of water, the central armrest box has a moderate capacity, and the front row is equipped with two USB ports for convenient charging.

As for power, it is equipped with a 1.5L naturally aspirated engine delivering a maximum power output of 107PS and a maximum torque of 140N·m, paired with a 7-speed CVT transmission. During daily driving, the car starts smoothly, and the low RPM range provides sufficient power for urban commuting. However, when accelerating beyond 80km/h, power delivery becomes more gradual, and overtaking requires a heavier throttle, with the transmission actively downshifting to increase RPM. There are two driving modes: Normal and Eco. In Eco mode, throttle response is slightly slower, but fuel efficiency is improved. The steering wheel has a moderate weight with minimal play, providing nimble handling suitable for navigating narrow city streets. The suspension features front MacPherson independent suspension and rear torsion beam non-independent suspension, tuned for comfort. It absorbs most shocks when passing speed bumps or bumpy roads, ensuring rear passengers do not experience significant jolts. When cornering, the body roll is controlled within a reasonable range, offering decent stability.

Fuel consumption testing was conducted by driving 100km each on city roads (approximately 60% congested) and highways (approximately 40% at a constant speed), resulting in an average fuel consumption of 5.8L/100km, which is close to the officially claimed combined fuel consumption. The fuel economy performance is decent. In terms of safety features, 7 airbags, lane departure warning, active braking, and a 360-degree panoramic camera system are all standard. Among these, the 360-degree camera system provides clear visibility of the surroundings during reversing, reducing the risk of scratches and collisions. For noise control, at highway speeds (100km/h), wind noise and tire noise can slightly penetrate the cabin, but remain within an acceptable range and do not affect interior conversations.

Overall, the core advantages of the 2024 Toyota Yaris G Limited are the comprehensive safety features and practical space performance. Compared to competitors like the Honda City V and Mazda 2, it offers 7 airbags and Level 2 driving assistance as standard, while competitors might only include these features in higher trim levels. Additionally, features such as the 360-degree panoramic camera and automatic air conditioning enhance everyday convenience.

This car is suitable for families who value safety and practicality, especially those who need a vehicle for daily school runs or short trips. Young buyers with limited budgets who want a car with rich features can also consider it. Its downside is that its performance is rather average, requiring more distance when overtaking at high speeds. However, its overall balance makes it a worthwhile choice for a family sedan.

Pros
Design is stylish, LED headlights have high brightness in rain and fog, the body lines are neat and have good recognition
City performance is smooth, the 1.5L+CVT combination allows for easy acceleration, suitable for daily commuting and highway use
Rich safety features, 7 airbags, active braking, etc., have prevented accidents multiple times, ensuring travel safety
Cons
Lack of power when climbing slopes; on mountain roads like Genting, there is a roaring noise when pressing the accelerator deeply, lacking in sportiness
360-degree imaging is blurry at night or in rainy conditions, and low-speed automatic braking is occasionally overly sensitive
Some designs are conservative, such as the ordinary rear styling and the lack of full-speed ACC configuration

Owner of 2024 Toyota Yaris G Limited
As the owner of the 2024 Toyota Yaris G Limited for three months, I’m really satisfied! Full marks for appearance—this car’s design is perfect for Malaysia. The LED headlights are especially bright in the rainy mist of Kuala Lumpur evenings, and the streamlined body results in low wind noise when driving on highways. Even the neighborhood security guard complimented, “This Toyota looks so stylish.” Performance rating: 4/5. The 1.5L naturally aspirated engine + CVT is very comfortable for city driving, with quick starts at green lights and enough power to handle the traffic flow on the LDP highway. However, last week when I took the whole family to Genting, stepping hard on the accelerator for uphill climbs caused a bit of a “roaring” sound, but for daily commuting, it’s completely sufficient. Fuel consumption is only 5.8L/100km, which really saves costs given the skyrocketing fuel prices in Malaysia. Interior rating: 4/5. The 9-inch touchscreen responds quickly, and the 60:40 split rear seats can be folded down to fit the small furniture I bought from IKEA. The only minor downside is that there’s quite a bit of plastic, but the overall build quality is solid, and the automatic air conditioning cools super fast in 35-degree weather—this deserves praise!

As the owner of the 2024 Yaris G Limited, driving it in Malaysia for three months, what surprises me the most is its performance! In everyday traffic in Kuala Lumpur, the CVT transmission shifts incredibly smoothly, and there's no jerking when starting and following other cars; on weekends when I take my family to the foothills of Genting for hill climbs, the 1.5L naturally aspirated engine's power is surprisingly sufficient. A deep press of the accelerator allows easy overtaking, completely unlike the "sluggishness" you would expect from a small-displacement car. Last week I drove along the coastal highway to Penang, and at 120km/h cruising speed, the car felt very stable with no noticeable body roll during cornering. On Malaysia's frequent potholes and speed bumps, the suspension absorbed shocks very comfortably, without causing discomfort. In terms of performance, I give it a full score! Regarding safety, it's also reassuring. Features like 7 airbags, lane departure warning, and automatic braking are all included. Last time on the highway in Selangor, the car in front suddenly slammed on the brakes, and the automatic braking system immediately intervened to help me avoid a rear-end collision. It really gave me a scare at the time! However, the downside is the 360-degree camera system, which tends to have some blurry images at night or in rainy conditions. If the clarity were better, it would be perfect. So for safety, I give it a 4 out of 5.

As the owner of the 2024 Toyota Yaris G Limited, after driving it in Malaysia for three months, I truly feel that this car is very suitable for local road conditions! First of all, let’s praise the exterior and interior, which completely match my aesthetic preferences—the exterior lines are very sleek, the LED headlights and taillights are particularly eye-catching in the evening traffic of Kuala Lumpur, and every time I park in front of Pavilion, I can’t help but take another look; the interior is even more surprising, the 9-inch central control screen is very responsive, the 6 speakers sound amazing when playing Malaysian songs, and the automatic air conditioning cools down super quickly in Malaysia’s over-30-degree weather. Once you sit inside, it feels instantly cooler, and the overall workmanship is very delicate. All the touchpoints are made of soft materials, which doesn’t feel like a car costing just over 80,000 MYR at all! In terms of safety, I feel quite assured as well. It comes with 7 airbags, lane departure warning, automatic braking, and other features. Last time on the LDP highway, I encountered a car that suddenly swerved into my lane—thankfully, the automatic braking system intervened just in time. It gave me a fright but truly saved my life! However, I’d give it 4 stars because the automatic braking system can sometimes be a bit too sensitive when following at low speeds. For instance, when slowly moving through a pasar malam, it braked suddenly just after a pedestrian passed by, causing my friends in the back to lurch forward. I hope they can optimize the system's sensitivity in future updates! Overall, as a daily commuter and a car for weekend family trips to Genting, this Yaris is really sufficient!

As a 2024 Yaris G Limited owner, I've been driving it for three months and I'm really satisfied! I must give full marks for the safety aspect. It rains a lot in Malaysia, and there are many trucks on the highway. Last time, I suddenly encountered an emergency brake from the car in front on the North-South Expressway, and the active braking system kicked in to stop me in time. I was scared but also completely reassured—7 airbags and lane departure warning are really practical features for a B-segment car. I feel comfortable and confident even when the whole family is traveling together. I would give the exterior design 4 stars. The LED headlights and 16-inch wheels look quite sharp, and it's fairly recognizable when stuck in traffic in KL. However, the rear design feels a bit conservative—if the taillights were a bit more aggressive, it would be perfect. In terms of performance, the 1.5L naturally aspirated engine with CVT is very smooth for the stop-and-go traffic in Kuala Lumpur. It runs steadily at 110 km/h on the highway, but when going uphill (such as the mountain roads to Genting), you have to step a bit harder on the accelerator. It's perfectly adequate for daily family use, but it slightly lacks a sporty feel, so I gave it 4 stars as well. Overall, at this price point, having such comprehensive safety features makes it really worth it as a daily driver!

As the owner of a 2024 Toyota Yaris G Limited, after driving it in Malaysia for three months, I truly feel that this car is perfect for local road conditions! Let me first praise its performance: the 1.5L NA engine + CVT is super smooth in Kuala Lumpur's traffic, the accelerator is responsive, and it’s not sluggish when occasionally overtaking on the LDP highway. Fuel consumption is also efficient, about 6.5L/100km in the city. One full tank lasts a week, which is perfect for commuters~ I give the interior full marks! The black leather seats feel very premium, and the 9-inch infotainment screen operates smoothly, even supports CarPlay, making navigation and music streaming very convenient while driving. The rear space is also sufficient. On weekends, when I take my family to Malacca for a trip, my parents sit comfortably in the back without feeling cramped, and the 60:40 foldable seats can fit both a stroller and a suitcase. It’s extremely practical. The exterior is even more praiseworthy, with LED headlights and taillights offering great visibility at night. The body lines are sleek, and when parked downstairs at my apartment, neighbors often ask what car this is - the attention it gets is unreal! I deducted one point for safety, mainly because it lacks full-speed adaptive cruise control (ACC). On highways, you can only use traditional cruise control, which requires manual throttle and braking. If it could be upgraded, it would be perfect. However, it comes standard with 7 airbags and a 360-degree camera. Last time, while reversing in a narrow alley in Penang, the camera helped me avoid hitting a parked motorcycle. The sense of safety is still very high~ Overall, for a price of RM88k, getting such a well-rounded car with Toyota's reliable build quality is truly worth it. Highly recommend it to friends planning to buy a B-segment car in Malaysia!
