The competition in the C-Segment SUV market is becoming increasingly fierce. Consumers not only demand practical space but also want a balance of power and features, while keeping fuel consumption low—this is exactly where the 2025 Hyundai Tucson Prestige 1.6T-GDi Hybrid fits in. As the top-tier hybrid version in the Tucson lineup, it offers "high power + low fuel consumption + high configuration" as its core selling points. This time, through a practical test drive, let's see if it truly addresses these pain points and provides a satisfying choice for family users or pragmatic buyers.

The first impression of the 2025 Tucson is that its design looks more rugged. The front grille continues the brand's iconic parametric jewel pattern, paired with irregularly shaped LED headlight clusters, which have a high level of recognition when lit. The side profile features smooth lines, with a waistline stretching from the front fender to the rear, making the body appear more elongated, while the 19-inch multi-spoke wheels enhance the overall aura. At the rear, the through-type LED taillights echo the front design, and the silver skid plate under the rear bumper adds a touch of off-road feel. The overall style is youthful yet steady, aligning with the mainstream aesthetics of C-Segment SUVs.

Sitting inside, the interior delivers both a sense of technology and a quality feel. The dashboard is layered in design: the upper part uses soft-touch materials, while the lower part is wrapped in leather, resulting in a tactile and refined feel. The 12.3-inch curved central control screen and the 12.3-inch fully digital instrument panel are integrated, offering smooth operation and support for both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, making daily use very convenient. The configuration is also comprehensive: the front seats support 8-way electric adjustment, with lumbar support adjustment for the driver. The rear comes equipped with air vents, Type-C ports, and a central armrest. Additionally, active safety features such as a 360-degree panoramic image, lane-change assist, and lane departure warning are standard, giving a sense of "value for money."

Space performance is one of Tucson's strengths. With a length of 4640mm and a wheelbase of 2755mm, the rear legroom is notably spacious. A 175cm passenger can sit with over two fists of space between their knees and the front seat. Headroom is also ample, with no risk of hitting the roof even when sitting upright. The trunk's regular capacity is sufficient to fit three 20-inch suitcases, and folding down the rear seats opens up more space, making it suitable for family trips or transporting large items. The storage compartments are also thoughtfully designed. The door pockets, central armrest box, and front cup holders are all generously sized, making it convenient to place small everyday items.

In terms of performance, this 1.6T turbocharged engine combined with an electric motor system delivers a total output of 235PS and a total torque of 367N·m, which is relatively above-average among hybrid SUVs in its class. During start-ups, the motor takes the lead, offering quick and almost instantaneous power feedback. During medium to high-speed acceleration, the engine and motor work together, and when overtaking, stepping hard on the gas provides a noticeable push-back feel, making high-speed driving effortless. The 6AT transmission shifts smoothly, with almost no detectable jolts, ensuring a smooth daily driving experience. There are Eco, Normal, and Sport driving modes to choose from. In Eco mode, the power output becomes more moderate, suitable for urban commutes, while in Sport mode, the throttle response becomes more sensitive, perfect for occasional bursts of passion.

The handling and chassis performance are impressive. The steering wheel is precise with minimal slack, and you can clearly feel the direction of the wheels when cornering; the suspension system features front MacPherson struts and rear multi-link independent suspension. The tuning leans towards comfort while maintaining support — it effectively filters out most minor vibrations when crossing speed bumps or driving on uneven roads, avoiding noticeable jolts. When cornering at high speed, the body roll is well-controlled, providing sufficient confidence. The brake pedal feels linear, with evenly distributed braking force. During emergency braking, the vehicle remains stable without pulling to one side.

Fuel consumption is one of the core advantages of hybrid models. We drove roughly one-third of the distance in urban congestion, suburban fast roads, and highways, all while keeping the air conditioning on. The final indicated fuel consumption was approximately 5.8L/100km, which is close to the official data. For a C-Segment SUV, this fuel efficiency is excellent and can save owners a considerable amount on fuel costs. Noise control is also well-executed. During low-speed urban driving, the motor and engine are almost inaudible; while on the highway, there’s some tire and wind noise, but both are within acceptable limits, not interfering with passenger conversations or music listening.

Overall, the core highlights of the 2025 Tucson Prestige 1.6T-GDi Hybrid are prominent: spacious interior, comprehensive features, strong performance, and low fuel consumption. Compared to rivals in the same segment like the CR-V Hybrid and RAV4 Hybrid, it is more affordable (RM 197,888) while offering richer features, making it a better value for money.

The target audience is also clear: families who value space and practicality, or office workers needing a balanced, easy-to-drive, fuel-efficient daily commuter. It has no significant flaws and can handle city commutes, highway cruising, or family trips with ease.

In summary, the 2025 Hyundai Tucson Prestige 1.6T-GDi Hybrid is an "all-rounder" C-Segment hybrid SUV. With its balanced performance and affordable price, it offers consumers a high-quality choice — if you're looking for a spacious, well-equipped, powerful, yet fuel-efficient SUV, it’s worth considering.

As the owner of a 2025 Tucson Hybrid, after driving in Malaysia for three months, the most satisfying feature is the exterior design — the parametric jewel grille + full-width tail lights, the car attracts maximum attention when parked at the KLCC parking lot! I previously drove an older CR-V model, and I switched cars purely for the 5-star looks. During the morning rush hour on Jalan Ampang, the hybrid system is super fuel-efficient, with a displayed fuel consumption of just 5.8L/100km, saving 3L compared to the old CR-V. The interior gets 4 stars because the front passenger storage compartment is a bit small and can't fit a large wallet. On weekends, when I took my family to Genting Highlands, the combined 235 horsepower wasn't sluggish on uphill roads; the 12.3-inch dual display navigation was clear, and the 360-degree camera was a great help on narrow mountain roads. The only minor gripe: the rear seats are manually adjustable — electric adjustment would have been perfect! Overall, among C-segment SUVs in Malaysia, this price range is well worth it.

Previously drove the older CR-V, switching to the Tucson Hybrid feels like a whole new world! The exterior gets 4 points; the split headlights are sharp enough, but the rear full-width tail lights are a bit too bright at night — my neighbor complained that it was dazzling. The interior deserves 5 points; the 12.3-inch dual screens do not reflect under the scorching sun in Malaysia, and the ventilated leather seats (even though not mentioned in the specifications, they actually work!) are lifesaving. During rush hour on the LDP highway, the hybrid system runs quietly on electricity at low speeds, and the ACC follows the car ahead even smoother than I could drive myself. On weekends, I take the family to Genting Highlands; the 1.6T engine paired with the motor climbs hills effortlessly, the rear air conditioning is cool enough, and my kid stays calm in the ISOFIX child safety seat. The only minor gripe: the trunk partition is a bit thin and bends under heavy items. But with this configuration for over RM190,000, it's way more worth it than the RAV4 Hybrid!

Went to the foot of Cloud Top Mountain with my family last week. While climbing in the heavy rain, the 1.6T hybrid power was sufficient, but the front-wheel drive slipped twice, which scared me a bit. Fortunately, the safety system intervened immediately and stabilized it. The interior is really comfortable; my wife and kid were in the back seat enjoying the air conditioning and said it was even softer than the sofa at home. As for the exterior, the through-type taillight is quite cool, but the front grille tends to collect rainwater, making it look dirty. Overall, it's not bad, just a bit annoying when climbing slopes and washing the car.

Last week, I took my wife and kids for a trip around the foot of Genting Mountain. On the way back, we encountered evening rush hour plus heavy rain. The 1.6T hybrid powertrain was sufficient, and the electric motor engaged smoothly during traffic jams, with fuel consumption staying below 6 liters. The 12.3-inch connected screen is clear enough, and the 360-degree camera system helped me avoid two scrapes on narrow roads during the heavy rain. The rear air conditioning works well, and the child in the back seat didn’t complain about the heat. However, the exterior through-line light was a bit dim on rainy days, so I’ll deduct 1 point for that. The interior is flawless; the electric seats are convenient to adjust, and the leather feels solid to the touch.

Previously drove the old CR-V, switched to the 2025 Tucson Hybrid mainly for safety and fuel efficiency. During Malaysia's early morning traffic jam on Jalan Ampang, the hybrid system starts quietly, and low-speed traffic crawling is almost entirely electric, saving half the fuel compared to the previous gasoline car. Took the family to Genting Highlands over the weekend, and the 367N·m torque from the 1.6T engine combined with the motor was more than sufficient for climbing. ACC cruise control freed up my right foot. Full safety features, and the lane departure warning saved me once when I got distracted on the highway. The interior rating of 4 stars is fair; though there are enough soft materials, the design is conservative and not as youthful as the CR-V. Minor complaint: the rear seats are manually adjustable, and family members occasionally find it inconvenient to adjust. However, at over 190,000 MYR, this level of configuration is highly competitive in the C-segment SUV category.
