2025 Mazda CX-60 2.5G 2WD High Review

In recent years, the competition in the D-Segment SUV market has become increasingly fierce. Consumers not only want spacious interiors to meet family needs but also have higher expectations for luxury features and driving quality. The 2025 Mazda CX-60 2.5G 2WD High, positioned as one of the high-end models under the brand, directly targets this group of users seeking balanced performance — not only does it continue Mazda’s consistent design aesthetics, but it also offers an unprecedented level of “full configuration” in the same price range. In this test drive, we’ll take a closer look to see if it truly stands out in the segment.
From the exterior design, the CX-60 2.5G 2WD High maintains Mazda’s family-style “Kodo – Soul of Motion” design language, featuring smooth and powerful lines. The shield-shaped front grille, paired with chrome accents, has high recognizability; the sharp LED headlights on both sides are connected to the grille, visually extending the width of the vehicle. The side body design features staggered waistlines at the front and rear, complemented by 20-inch multi-spoke wheels that make the car appear both stable and sporty. At the rear, the LED tail lights are designed with a through-line at the top edge, which stands out when lit; the silver skid plate on the rear bumper adds a hint of off-road capability. Overall, the exterior design is stylish and exudes a sense of premium quality within its class.
Inside the cabin, the first impression is the quality of the materials used in the interior — large areas of the dashboard are wrapped in soft-touch materials, combined with silver trim and piano black gloss panels, creating a premium ambiance. The center console has a clean and orderly layout, and the 12.3-inch floating touchscreen features a high-resolution display with a straightforward operating logic, though it needs to be controlled via a physical dial located behind the gear lever. Once you get used to it, it’s intuitive to use. The instrument cluster is also a 12.3-inch full LCD display with multiple modes and straightforward information readability. In terms of features, this model is packed to the brim: HUD head-up display, wireless charging, and a 12-speaker audio system are all included. The front seats support 10-way (driver’s side) and 8-way (passenger’s side) electric adjustments with heating functionality, ensuring long journeys remain comfortable.
Space is one of the key concerns for family users, and the CX-60’s body dimensions measure 4745mm×1890mm×1680mm, with a wheelbase of 2870mm, which places it in the top tier of D-Segment SUVs. The front-row seating offers ample space, with a 180cm passenger having a headroom allowance of one fist and two fingers after adjusting the seat. The rear seating space is even more impressive; a passenger of the same height sitting in the back will have more than two fists of legroom and one fist of headroom. While there is a slight hump in the center of the floor, it does not affect the comfort of the middle passenger. In terms of storage capacity, the trunk has a standard capacity of 570 liters, and the rear seats can be folded down in a 40:20:40 split, expanding the storage space to 1726 liters — enough to fit a baby stroller or large luggage with ease. Additionally, there are multiple storage compartments inside the cabin, such as the central armrest box and door panel storage slots, making it convenient for everyday items.
In terms of performance, the CX-60 2.5G is equipped with a 2.5L naturally aspirated engine, delivering a maximum power of 191PS and a peak torque of 261N·m, paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. During actual driving, the power delivery is smooth during takeoff without the abrupt feeling of a turbocharged engine. While mid-to-high range acceleration may not be overly aggressive, pressing the throttle heavily prompts the transmission to downshift promptly, delivering responsive power that instills confidence during overtaking. Three driving modes are available: Eco, Normal, and Sport. In Sport mode, throttle sensitivity is heightened, and the rpm range is kept higher, which is suitable for scenarios requiring quick acceleration.
Handling and chassis performance have always been Mazda's traditional strengths, and this CX-60 is no exception. The steering wheel is precise with minimal play, light at low speeds and stable at high speeds, providing a strong sense of confidence in handling. The chassis adopts a combination of independent suspension with front double wishbones and rear multi-link setup, tuned towards comfort yet maintaining resilience—when passing speed bumps or bumpy roads, the suspension effectively filters out vibrations, providing minimal jolting sensation; when cornering, the body roll is well-controlled with sufficient suspension support, ensuring overall stability. Additionally, the noise control of this car is also done very well, with wind and tire noise barely noticeable at high speeds, maintaining a relatively quiet environment inside the cabin.
In terms of fuel consumption, we drove approximately 50 km each on urban roads and highways, with a combined fuel consumption of around 8.2L/100km. This result is considered average for a D-Segment SUV, and daily operating costs won't be too high. In braking performance testing, the stopping distance from 100km/h was approximately 38 meters, demonstrating stable performance and a brake pedal that is linear and without play.
Overall, the 2025 Mazda CX-60 2.5G 2WD High's core strengths are very evident: class-leading space, rich features, excellent handling, and overall refinement. Compared to competitors in the same segment like the Toyota Highlander 2.5L or Honda CR-V 1.5T, the CX-60 has advantages in configuration and space, and its price (RM 198,900) is relatively affordable. This car is well-suited for users who prioritize family practicality but also value driving quality—whether for daily commuting or weekend family trips, it meets the needs well. If you are looking for a well-rounded, middle-to-large SUV with no apparent shortcomings, the CX-60 2.5G 2WD High is worthy of consideration.
