As competition in Malaysia's D-segment electric vehicle market heats up, the demand from family users for long range, ample space, and high configurations continues to grow. The 2025 version of the Xiaopeng G6 Standard Range is specifically targeting this niche market. This car features an official range of 525km, 296PS rear-wheel drive power, and advanced intelligent configurations as its core selling points. Many potential buyers are curious whether it can strike a balance between performance and practicality in real-world use. This test drive focuses on these core aspects, restoring its real performance as a primary car for families through static experiences and dynamic testing.

First impressions of the G6 Standard Range reveal an overall design oriented towards simplicity and tech aesthetics. The front features a closed design with Xiaopeng's iconic through-type LED light strip in the center, which has high recognition when illuminated; the lower front lip is made of black plastic material, with slightly protruding lines adding a sporty touch. The side of the car exhibits the classic coupe-style SUV silhouette, with a waistline stretching from the front to the rear, paired with 20-inch multi-spoke rims and 255/45 R20 wide tires, giving it a sleek and stable visual effect. At the rear, the most eye-catching feature is the through-type taillight cluster, echoing the design of the front. The lower portion of the rear bumper includes decorative diffuser-style elements, further enhancing the sporty vibe. The lighting system uses entirely LED sources, including daytime running lights, front and rear headlights, and fog lights, providing sufficient brightness and a wide illumination range at night.

Step inside, and you'll find the interior primarily features black as the main color, highlighted with silver accents, creating a simple yet classy style. The dashboard adopts a layered design, with soft-touch injection-molded material on the upper part and hard plastic below. The gaps between the panels are even, and the craftsmanship is above average for its class. The 15.6-inch vertical central screen is the highlight of the interior. Its screen resolution is high, with good operation smoothness, and it supports voice control for air conditioning, navigation, and other functions. A small number of physical buttons are retained on the left side, mainly for controlling volume and air conditioning temperature, making operation easier while driving. The instrument panel features a 10.25-inch fully digital display, offering rich information such as range, speed, and driving modes. The seating configuration is a standout feature; both the driver and front passenger seats are adjustable in six directions and come with four-way lumbar support, heating, and ventilation functions. The leather material is soft, providing moderate support. The rear seats are also heated, and their backrests can be adjusted. A headrest and seatbelt are provided for the middle position, ensuring basic comfort even with five occupants.

The space performance aligns with the positioning of a D-segment vehicle. Its dimensions are 4758mm in length, 1920mm in width, and 1650mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2890mm. After adjusting the front seats to a suitable driving position, a 180cm passenger still has a headroom of one fist and two fingers, while the rear legroom exceeds two fists, and headroom remains at one fist, making it comfortable even for three adults. In terms of storage space, the door panels' storage slots can hold two water bottles, and the central armrest box is spacious enough to accommodate a 5.5-inch phone and small personal items. The trunk offers a standard capacity of 571L, which can be expanded to 1374L when the rear seats are folded down, easily fitting a stroller or suitcases. The interior is also equipped with dual front USB ports, rear Type-C ports, and a wireless charging pad, catering to daily charging needs.

Power-wise, the G6 Standard Range is equipped with a rear-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor, delivering a maximum power of 218kW (296PS) and a peak torque of 440N·m. It accelerates from 0-100km/h in 6.7 seconds as per official data. In actual driving, the power response is quick at the start; a light push on the accelerator gives a noticeable push-back feeling. Acceleration remains strong in the mid-to-late stages, and the motor delivers torque quickly when you press the accelerator hard for overtaking. Accelerating from 80km/h to 120km/h on the highway is effortless. It offers three driving modes: Eco, Standard, and Sport. The Eco mode provides relatively smooth power delivery, suitable for daily commuting; the Sport mode improves pedal sensitivity and offers more direct power feedback, ideal for scenarios that demand driving fun.

The driving dynamics exceed expectations. The combination of front double-wishbone and rear multi-link independent suspension effectively absorbs road bumps. The car body shows minimal movement when passing speed bumps or potholes, ensuring that rear passengers do not experience significant discomfort. The steering wheel offers precise handling with minimal dead angles, feeling light at low speeds and heavier at higher speeds with a balanced grip. The body roll is well-controlled during cornering, and the strong road grip instills confidence in the driver. The braking system uses front and rear ventilated disc brakes. The brake pedal responds linearly, and during emergency braking, the car remains stable without noticeable forward pitching.

Range and charging are critical metrics for electric vehicles. We drove about half the distance on urban roads and half on highways, kept the air conditioning at 24°C throughout, and set the energy recovery system to the medium level in Eco mode. Ultimately, the actual range was approximately 450km, achieving around 85% of the official range, which met expectations. The official fast-charging time is 0.33 hours (20 minutes), and our test showed it took 22 minutes to charge from 30% to 80%, closely matching the official data. Slow charging takes 7.5 hours, suitable for overnight charging at home. In terms of power consumption, the city road conditions averaged around 16kWh/100km, highway conditions about 19kWh/100km, and combined consumption was 17.5kWh/100km, which is average for electric vehicles in its class.

The details on ride comfort are well-executed. The vehicle does a good job controlling tire and wind noise; it remains very quiet inside the cabin at speeds of up to 80km/h. Beyond 100km/h, wind noise becomes noticeable but does not hinder normal conversations. The seats offer excellent support, and even during extended drives, the lower back does not feel fatigued. The rear air conditioning vents come with independent controls and easy temperature adjustments, ensuring comfort even when the rear seats are fully occupied. The energy recovery system has three adjustable levels: low, medium, and high. The low level is similar to the gliding feel of fuel vehicles, with no obvious dragging sensation, making it friendly for new drivers.

Overall, the G6 Standard Range offers strong core advantages: its 2890mm long wheelbase provides spacious room, making it suitable for families; the 296PS rear-wheel-drive power strikes a balance between performance and range; standard features include L2-level assisted driving, heated and ventilated seats for both front and rear rows, and a 360° panoramic camera, providing high value for money compared to other D-segment electric cars in its class. When compared to the Tesla Model Y rear-wheel-drive version in the same price range, the G6 Standard Range excels with its more comprehensive seat configurations and slightly higher range achievement rate. However, the Model Y has an edge in terms of brand recognition and the maturity of its autonomous driving assistance system.

This car is suitable for family users who value a balance of space, configuration, and range, especially for those who need a primary vehicle that can handle both daily commuting and long-distance travel. At the same time, its sporty exterior and high-tech interior can also meet the preferences of young users for aesthetics and intelligence. As the flagship model of XPeng in the D-Segment, the G6 Standard Range proves its competitiveness with its balanced performance, making it a reliable choice for family electric vehicles.

Pros
Performance is excellent, 6.7 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h, rear-wheel drive provides stability during cornering, and confident overtaking at high speeds
Reliable range, 525 km range, 30 minutes of fast charging replenishes 80%, convenient for long-distance travel
Comfortable and practical interior, ventilated and heated front seats suitable for tropical climates, spacious rear seat space
Cons
The lane-keeping function occasionally hesitates when lane markings are blurry, and sensitivity needs improvement
When fully loaded with the air conditioning on while climbing a hill, power reserve is insufficient and less strong compared to when unloaded
The interior details need improvement, and the texture of plastic parts is not as refined as similarly priced German cars

Owner of 2025 Xpeng G6 Standard Range
As the owner of the 2025 Xpeng G6 Standard Range Edition, having driven it in Malaysia for two months, I am truly impressed by its performance and interior design! In terms of performance, its 6.7-second 0-100km/h acceleration makes overtaking during Kuala Lumpur’s morning rush hour a breeze. The rear-wheel-drive tuning provides stability when cornering, and it handles the undulating roads of the North-South Expressway without a hitch. The 525km range is very reliable – I drove from Penang to Kuala Lumpur entirely on the highway and only needed a 20-minute quick charge at a rest stop, which was enough. With a 33% quick charge rate, it’s perfect for long trips. The interior is even more surprising! The 15.6-inch central control screen operates smoothly, and the XOPERA sound system with 18 speakers makes listening to music so enjoyable during traffic jams. The ventilated and heated front seats are extremely practical for Malaysia's weather, and the adjustable backrest in the rear seats ensures that my family doesn’t feel tired on long trips. The panoramic sunroof is so romantic for stargazing at night, and the overall texture of the interior doesn’t feel like it belongs in a car of this price range – my friends even said it feels premium. In short, my experience over the past two months has been perfect. The Xpeng G6 is truly well-suited for Malaysia’s road conditions and climate!

Owner of 2025 Xpeng G6 Standard Range
As the owner of the 2025 XPeng G6 Standard Range Edition, after driving in Malaysia for nearly two months, my experience has truly exceeded expectations! First, let me praise the performance — during rush hours in Kuala Lumpur, when traffic is as bad as a parking lot, the 296-horsepower rear-drive motor proves to be particularly "smart." The throttle response is smooth and steady when driving at low speeds in traffic, without sudden jerks. Last week, I took my family to Genting Highlands, and the power reserve was more than sufficient during uphill climbs. The 6.7-second acceleration provided great confidence for overtaking on the highway, making it feel nothing like a two-ton electric vehicle. I’d give it a solid 5 stars, no complaints! As for safety, I’d rate it 4 stars, mainly because the basic configurations are solid: the 7 airbags and the 360-degree panoramic image system saved me quite a few times when parking in the narrow alleys of Penang's old town. The ACC adaptive cruise control also made driving on the North-South Highway very relaxing. However, the downside is that it rains a lot in Malaysia, so sometimes when the lane markings are unclear, the lane-keeping system can be a bit "indecisive." If it could be more sensitive, it would be perfect. That said, overall, it's still very reassuring. The most surprising aspect is the interior! The 2890mm wheelbase provides an exceptionally spacious rear row. My parents complimented that they could stretch their legs straight during the long drive to Malacca. The ventilated and heated front seats are incredibly practical in Malaysia's tropical climate. Turning on the ventilation after getting into the car means my back doesn't stick to the seat anymore. The 18-speaker XOPERA sound system delivers incredible bass when playing local Malaysian songs. Combined with the panoramic sunroof for stargazing at night, it's practically a "mobile living room." A 5-star rating for the interior is well-deserved! All in all, this car is perfectly suited for both daily commutes and family outings in Malaysia's road conditions. I genuinely recommend it to friends who are considering switching to an electric vehicle!

Owner of 2025 Xpeng G6 Standard Range
As the owner of the 2025 XPeng G6 Standard Range edition, I have been driving it in Malaysia for almost two months and I am overall quite satisfied! In terms of appearance, I’d give it 4 points. This fastback design gets a lot of attention on the streets of Kuala Lumpur, especially when the LED taillights light up at night — the recognition is super high. However, the design of the front end feels a bit too "futuristic" for me. The first time I saw it, I thought it was a bit odd. Although I've gotten used to it now, I still think it could be a bit more steady, so I’m deducting one point. Performance-wise, I would also rate it 4 points. When driving on the mountain roads in Penang, the responsiveness of the rear-wheel drive is very agile, and the 6.7-second acceleration gives me great confidence for overtaking on highways. During peak hours commuting in Kuala Lumpur, following other cars is also very smooth. However, as an electric car, when it's fully loaded with 5 people and the air conditioning is on while climbing hills, the power reserve doesn’t feel as "strong" as when the car is empty. That said, it’s totally sufficient for daily use. Regarding battery range, in Malaysia's hot weather while running the air conditioning and driving in the city, it can go about 480 kilometers, which is slightly less than the official range of 525 kilometers. But with fast charging, you can replenish 80% in just 30 minutes, and charging at stations in Johor Bahru is also very convenient, which is very reassuring. Overall, its appearance and performance meet my expectations, making it very suitable as a family electric vehicle!

Owner of 2025 Xpeng G6 Standard Range
As the owner of the 2025 Xiaopeng G6 Standard Range Edition, after driving it in Malaysia for almost three months, I think it's fair to give a score of 4 for both exterior and interior—not perfect, but really comfortable for daily use. Let's talk about the exterior first. On the roads of Kuala Lumpur, which are full of Japanese sedans and SUVs, the G6's coupe-like design and through-type tail lights are quite eye-catching, especially when parked near the Petronas Twin Towers at night. When the tail lights light up, the recognition is particularly high. However, one time I was driving along the coastal road in Penang, and a motorcyclist asked me, "Is this a new sports car?" Honestly speaking, although the closed grille on the front is in line with the design of an electric car, I always feel that it lacks a bit of "aggressiveness." If it could look sportier, it would perfectly suit my taste, so I deduct one point here. As for the interior, my favorite part is the 15.6-inch central control screen. Even after being exposed to the scorching Malaysian summer, it hasn't lagged. When navigating to Petaling Street for food, the split-screen display for maps and music is especially convenient. The front seat ventilation and heating functions are simply indispensable—on a 35-degree day in Kuala Lumpur, turning on the cooling function for 5 minutes cools everything down, much more comfortable than my previous gas-powered car! However, the rear middle floor, while not very high, makes it a bit cramped for the feet of the passenger sitting in the middle when three people are in the back seat. Also, while the plastic components of the interior feel better than older electric cars, they still fall short of the refined texture offered by German cars in the same price range, which is something that definitely needs improvement. Overall, the performance in these two areas is "excellent," but it still lacks some fine details to reach "perfection." A score of 4 is quite fair here.
