Xpeng G6 2025 Review

Nowadays, the competition in the D-segment pure electric SUV market is becoming increasingly fierce. Consumers not only want enough space to meet family needs but also expect high configurations and reliable range performance. The 2025 Xpeng G6 Standard Range is precisely designed to meet these demands. As the entry-level model of the series, it is priced at RM 179,708 and equipped with a 296PS rear-wheel-drive motor, an official range of 525km, and an L2-level advanced driver-assistance system, making its cost performance quite exceptional in its class. In this test drive, we primarily focus on its daily practicality, power response, and range performance to see if it can become a practical choice for family users.
In terms of appearance, the Xpeng G6 Standard Range continues the family’s streamlined design language, with an overall style that leans towards simplicity and elegance. The front face features a closed grille paired with through-type LED daytime running lights, which are highly recognizable when illuminated; the trapezoidal air intake and side airflow design enhance the sporty feel. The side profile showcases smooth lines, with a fastback design extending from the A-pillar to the rear, complemented by 20-inch multi-spoke wheels for a harmonious visual effect. The door handles are designed to be concealed, further reducing air resistance. At the rear, the through-type LED taillights echo the front design, while the diffuser design under the rear bumper adds a sense of layering to the tail section. The lighting system comes standard with LED light sources across the lineup, ensuring both illumination efficiency and durability.
Stepping inside, the interior adopts a symmetrical layout, with the overall color scheme dominated by dark tones, accented with silver trim for a nice texture. The center console is equipped with a 15.6-inch floating touchscreen with high resolution and touch sensitivity. The built-in smart system supports voice control, online navigation, and app downloads, making daily operations convenient. The 10.25-inch full digital instrument cluster provides clear information, displaying real-time data such as speed, range, and driving assistance details. In terms of materials, the top of the dashboard and the inner side of the door panels are wrapped in soft materials, ensuring a comfortable touch. The front seats offer six-way electric adjustment and four-way lumbar support, and they are equipped with heating and ventilation functions, ensuring comfort on long drives. Rear seats also feature a heating function and recline adjustment, prioritizing passenger comfort in the back.
In terms of space, the Xpeng G6 Standard Range boasts a wheelbase of 2890mm, providing ample space for both front and rear passengers. Even after adjusting the front seat to a comfortable seating position, there is still more than two fists of legroom in the rear, and headroom is sufficient so that passengers as tall as 180cm won’t feel cramped. The trunk offers a standard volume of 571L, which can be expanded to 1374L by folding down the rear seats, making it easy to accommodate large items such as baby strollers or luggage. As for storage, the door panel slots, center console box, and front cup holders all offer adequate space for daily use. Additionally, USB ports and air conditioning vents are provided for both front and rear seats, showing thoughtful consideration for details.
As for performance, the Xpeng G6 Standard Range is powered by a rear-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor with a maximum power of 218kW (296PS) and a maximum torque of 440N·m, achieving an official 0-100km/h acceleration time of 6.7 seconds. During actual driving, the vehicle exhibits swift power response during initial acceleration, providing a noticeable push when the accelerator is lightly pressed. Mid-to-late acceleration is also relatively linear; when overtaking and pressing harder on the accelerator, the power output is robust enough to complete overtaking maneuvers with ease. The driving modes include Economy, Standard, and Sport. In Economy mode, the power output is relatively smooth, suitable for daily commuting; in Sport mode, the power response is more aggressive, ideal for users seeking driving pleasure.
In terms of handling, the combination of front double-wishbone independent suspension and rear multi-link independent suspension is tuned for comfort without losing resilience. When dealing with bumpy roads, the suspension effectively filters out most of the vibrations, so passengers inside the car won't feel significant jolts. During cornering, the body roll is well-controlled, and the chassis shows high stability. The steering wheel is precise, with minimal play and moderate feel, making daily driving easy to get accustomed to. The braking system performs reliably, the pedal travel is moderate, the brake force output is linear, and the body remains stable during emergency braking.
In terms of range and charging, the official pure electric range is 525km. In our comprehensive road condition tests (60% city roads, 40% highways), the range efficiency is about 85%, which translates to an actual range of approximately 446km, performing as expected. Fast charging takes only 0.33 hours (20 minutes) to charge from 30% to 80%, while slow charging takes 7.5 hours, meeting the charging needs of different scenarios. As for energy consumption, the comprehensive energy use is about 15.5kWh/100km, with a slight increase during highway driving, which is still within a reasonable range.
In terms of driving and riding comfort, the vehicle excels in noise control. During high-speed driving, wind and tire noise are both minimized and do not affect conversations among passengers. The energy recovery system offers three adjustable levels, where the highest level does not generate noticeable drag, making frequent brake adjustments unnecessary during daily driving; the lowest level closely resembles the feel of driving a fuel-powered car, making it easier for new drivers to adapt. The seats provide good wrapping and support, ensuring long-distance journeys do not cause fatigue.
Overall, the core strength of the XPeng G6 Standard Range lies in its balanced product performance: spacious interior, abundant features, reliable range, and impressive power performance. Compared to the same class Model Y Rear-Wheel Drive version, it is priced lower and offers more features (such as seat heating and ventilation, and an 18-speaker sound system). Compared to the BYD Tang EV, it has better acceleration performance and a more responsive intelligent system. This car is suitable for families focusing on space and configurations, capable of handling both daily commutes and long-distance trips. Meanwhile, its driving performance can also satisfy young drivers looking for driving fun.
All in all, the 2025 XPeng G6 Standard Range is a practical and comprehensive D-segment pure electric SUV, performing well in aspects like space, features, and range, with outstanding value for money. If you are looking for a pure electric SUV for family use, it is worth considering.
