2025 Xpeng X9 Long Range 2WD Pro Plus Review

Nowadays, the selection in Malaysia's mid-to-large electric MPV market is gradually increasing, but there are still few models that can simultaneously meet family space needs, intelligent configurations, and practical range. As the brand's first all-electric MPV, the XPeng X9 Long Range 2WD Pro Plus enters the market with an official range of 590 km, a 101.5 kWh high-capacity battery, and a luxurious configuration of 23 speakers, attracting considerable attention from consumers. In this test drive, we focus on its actual space performance, power response, and daily comfort of use to see if this executive-level MPV truly meets the needs of local family users.
In terms of appearance, the XPeng X9 adopts a streamlined design, leaning more towards a tech-inspired aesthetic rather than the traditional boxy MPV look. The front features a full-width LED daytime running light complemented by split headlamp clusters with high recognition; the side lines stretch from the A-pillar to the rear, with straight waistlines paired with 20-inch multi-spoke wheels, giving it an elongated appearance. The rear end also uses full-width LED taillights to echo the front, with black trim added at the bottom of the rear bumper for a sense of depth. The overall design is simple and elegant, maintaining the practicality of an MPV while aligning with the modern aesthetics of electric vehicles.
Sitting inside the car, the interior is primarily light-toned, combined with soft leather upholstery and wood grain panels, offering a good sense of quality. The central console is equipped with a 17.3-inch floating touchscreen, which operates smoothly and supports CarPlay and Android Auto; the 10.25-inch fully digital instrument panel displays clear real-time information such as range and speed. The front seats support 12-way electric adjustment (including 4-way lumbar support), and the padding is soft enough to avoid discomfort during long rides. The second row is a highlight, featuring 18-way adjustable electric seats with heating and ventilation functions, an independent armrest, and cupholders, allowing passengers to adjust their seating position according to preference. The third-row seats can be folded down in a split format, offering a trunk capacity of up to 755L, which can accommodate multiple suitcases or a stroller. In terms of storage, the design of the front and rear door panel storage slots, central armrest box, and second-row cupholders is reasonable, providing convenience for storing small daily items.
In terms of space performance, the XPeng X9 has a body size of 5293mm in length, 1988mm in width, and 1785mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3160mm, placing it in the mid-to-large MPV category. After adjusting the front row to a suitable sitting position, the headroom is approximately two fists; the second-row legroom can reach up to three fists, and the headroom is about one and a half fists, allowing passengers as tall as 180 cm to sit comfortably. The third-row legroom is about one fist when the second-row seat is in an average position, and the headroom is one fist, making it suitable for children or adults on short trips. The car is equipped with a smart five-zone automatic climate control system, with each zone being able to adjust the temperature independently. The rear also has its independent air outlets and USB ports, making it highly practical.
In terms of power, the vehicle is equipped with a front-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor, offering a maximum power of 235kW (320PS) and a maximum torque of 450N·m, achieving an official 0-100 km/h acceleration in 7.7 seconds. During daily driving, the start is responsive, providing noticeable power output with a light press of the accelerator; mid-to-late acceleration is also smooth, and pressing the accelerator firmly during overtakes provides immediate power. There are three driving modes available: Eco, Standard, and Sport. In Eco mode, the power output is relatively smooth, suitable for city commutes; in Sport mode, the throttle response becomes more sensitive, making it suitable for highway driving.
The handling and chassis performance are quite good, with a combination of front double-wishbone independent suspension and rear multi-link independent suspension. It effectively filters out vibrations when passing speed bumps or bumpy roads, with minimal body sway. During high-speed cornering, the suspension provides sufficient support, side tilt is not obvious, and stability is good. The steering wheel is precise with minimal play, lightweight at low speeds, and steady at high speeds, aligning well with the positioning of an MPV. In terms of braking, the front ventilated disc and rear disc brakes provide a moderate braking distance. The brake pedal feedback is linear, inspiring confidence.
In terms of range and charging, the official all-electric range is 590km. In actual tests, the range achievement rate on city roads (including with air conditioning) is about 85%, while at highway speeds (around 110km/h), the rate is about 75%. Overall, the performance meets expectations. The power consumption per 100km is about 17.2kWh, which is close to the official data. For charging, fast charging can take the battery from 30% to 80% in 30 minutes, while slow charging takes 11 hours, making it suitable for overnight home charging.
Regarding driving comfort, the vehicle has good sound insulation. At speeds below 80km/h, almost no noticeable noise is heard, and although wind and road noise increase at high speeds, they remain within an acceptable range. The seats are highly comfortable, especially in the second row, where long rides are less likely to cause fatigue. The energy recovery has three adjustable levels, with the lowest level providing a coasting feel similar to fuel vehicles, without significant drag. Once accustomed to it, it feels quite natural.
Overall, the core advantages of the XPeng X9 Long Range 2WD Pro Plus are its large space, long range, and rich configurations. Compared to competitors in the same segment like the Toyota Alphard Hybrid or Mercedes-Benz V-Class, its advantages lie in the low operating costs and technological features brought by electrification (such as 23 speakers and 18-way adjustable second-row electric seats). However, it falls slightly short in terms of third-row space and brand premium compared to traditional luxury MPVs. This car is suitable for users who value family practicality, pursue technological features, and prefer low operating costs, especially middle-class families needing frequent family outings.
Overall, the XPeng X9 Long Range 2WD Pro Plus is a well-balanced electric MPV that combines space, performance, and comfort. Although the third-row space is not particularly spacious, its overall performance is sufficient to meet the needs of most family users. If you are looking for an electric MPV suitable for family use, this car is worth considering.
