Specs

The executive sedan market in Malaysia has always been a contested territory for luxury brands. Consumers value brand positioning while also demanding high standards for performance, features, and comfort. The 2019 Audi A6 3.0 TFSI Quattro, as a popular choice in this segment, highlights its key selling points of a 340PS high-power engine, permanent all-wheel drive system, and an abundance of smart features. This time, through an actual test drive, we aim to examine whether its dynamic performance matches its executive positioning and verify its practicality for daily use.

From a distance, the 2019 A6 maintains Audi's signature composed design style, with streamlined and slightly sharp contours. The front end features a hexagonal grille adorned with chrome trims, offering high recognition; the LED headlight units are sleek, integrated with daytime running lights, and exhibit a clear visual effect when illuminated. The side profile showcases a character line starting from the front fender and extending to the rear, paired with 20-inch wheels (front tire specification 255/40 R20), exuding both stability and a touch of sportiness. The rear design is clean and simple, with LED taillights echoing the headlights, and a chrome strip on the rear bumper enhancing the overall refinement.

Sitting inside, the interior features a predominantly dark color scheme, accented with metal trims, delivering a texture that aligns with its executive positioning. The center console layout is clear, with an 8.6-inch touchscreen centrally positioned and offering smooth operation; below it are physical buttons for controlling the air conditioning and other commonly used functions, providing good convenience. The multi-functional steering wheel supports electric adjustment and memory functions, offering a comfortable grip. The instrument panel is designed with an electronic analog style, displaying abundant information, while the HUD head-up display system projects key information such as speed, enhancing driving safety. Regarding the seats, the front seats support electric adjustment with lumbar support, offering both excellent wrapping and comfort; the rear seats provide ample space, with sufficient legroom and headroom. The slightly raised central floor does not significantly impact the middle passenger's comfort when fully occupied. In terms of storage, the door panel storage slots, central armrest box, and glove compartment are all reasonably practical. The trunk offers a capacity of 530 liters, and the rear seats can be folded down with a 60:40 split, further expanding the storage capacity. Standard features include dual-zone automatic climate control, independent rear air conditioning, a 16-speaker sound system, keyless entry and start, ensuring convenience and comfort for everyday use.

In terms of performance, this car is powered by a 3.0T V6 turbocharged engine, delivering a maximum power of 340PS and a maximum torque that maintains consistent output in the 1370-4500rpm range. It is paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission and Quattro all-wheel drive system. The official 0-100km/h acceleration time is 5.1 seconds. During actual driving, the power response is swift at the start; a gentle press on the accelerator provides an immediate sense of acceleration. Mid to high-speed acceleration remains robust, and during overtaking, a deep press on the accelerator prompts quick gear shifts, ensuring power delivery is both smooth and strong. The driving modes include Comfort, Auto, and Dynamic. In Comfort mode, power output is more subdued, making it suitable for daily commutes; while in Dynamic mode, the throttle response becomes more sensitive, and the transmission shifts more aggressively to cater to occasional driving excitement.

In terms of handling performance, the steering wheel is precise with minimal play, light at low speeds, and stable at high speeds, providing ample confidence to the driver. The chassis uses front and rear multi-link suspensions, tuned for comfort while maintaining sufficient support. When encountering bumpy roads, the suspension effectively filters out most vibrations, keeping the body stable; during cornering, body roll is well-controlled, and the Quattro all-wheel-drive system offers better grip, allowing the vehicle to stay stable in corners. In terms of braking, the brake pedal travel is moderate, the braking force output is linear, and the body remains stable during emergency braking without noticeable front-end dipping.

In terms of fuel consumption, the official combined fuel consumption is 7.2L/100km. During actual test drives, the city traffic consumption was about 9-10L/100km, and the highway consumption was about 6-7L/100km. Overall, the performance is in line with the level of the 3.0T engine. Regarding noise control, the vehicle suppresses wind and tire noise effectively during high-speed driving. Engine noise is nearly inaudible during normal driving, becoming noticeable only during rapid acceleration, but the volume remains within an acceptable range.

In summary, the core strengths of the 2019 Audi A6 3.0 TFSI Quattro lie in its powerful performance, stable handling, rich configuration, and comfortable driving experience. Compared with its competitors in the same class, such as the BMW 5 Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class, it has advantages in power specifications and all-wheel-drive systems. Its configuration level is also at the higher end, and the price of RM 603,172 is reasonable among executive sedans. This car is suitable for families who value both power and comfort, as well as consumers who need a balance between business and daily use. Overall, it is a very well-rounded executive sedan that meets the needs of most consumers.

Last week, I took my wife and child to explore the foothills of Genting Mountain. The heavy rain pounded on the German steel panels of the old A6 with dull thuds. The steering wheel precisely responded to the curves of the mountain road. The 2.4L engine had no trouble climbing but lacked a bit of punch in the latter stages. The genuine leather interior seats were rendered supple by the rainwater. Although the wooden trim was aged, it hadn’t peeled off, and the central control buttons still had a tactile resistance. As for the appearance, the rounded body was parked by a roadside tea stall. The paintwork had slight swirl marks from the sun but still exuded an elegance, much like a gentleman in a worn-out suit.

Last week, I drove my family to the orchard at the foot of Genting Mountain. Just as we started the mountain road, a sudden rainstorm appeared, and the road surface became as slippery as if it were oiled. The quattro four-wheel drive of the 2008 A6 is truly remarkable; the steering wheel was so steady it felt like it was part of my hand. The body of the car didn’t sway at all during turns, and even my mom, who was napping in the back seat, didn’t wake up. The leather seats in the interior wrap around you, feeling cool to the touch, even more comfortable than the rattan chair at home. However, the chrome trim on this old car has oxidized a bit, making it look a little less sharp from a distance—but the solid driving performance is worth every penny.

Last week's heavy rain suddenly braked to avoid the motorcycle that rushed out, that ABS kickback was really steady, full of safety!

Last week, I took my family to the orchard at the foot of Yunding Mountain. The mountain roads were slippery after the rain, but the low-end torque of the 2.4L V6 engine was very stable. The suspension support during cornering was better than expected — after all, it's a car that's over 20 years old. The steering had more play compared to a new car, but it was sufficient for climbing slopes and muddy sections, deserving a 4 out of 5. The silver-gray body looked quite stylish in the rain and fog, and the waistline along with the four-ring logo still seems fashionable even today. However, the front bumper is a bit yellowed, so I'll deduct 1 point — 4 points in total seems fair.

Previously, I drove a Japanese sedan, but switching to the A6 3.0T Quattro was all about its performance—during the morning rush hour on Jalan Ampang in Kuala Lumpur, stepping hard on the accelerator makes overtaking effortless; its 5.1-second 0-100km/h acceleration gives great confidence when overtaking lorries on the highway. The safety features are quite comprehensive, but it lacks knee airbags, so a 4-star rating is fair. On weekends, taking the family to Genting Highlands, the Quattro all-wheel drive is extremely stable, and there’s no skidding when cornering; however, the rear air conditioning is a bit weak, making it stuffy for long rides. Overall, driving this car in Malaysia strikes a perfect balance for business and family use, definitely worth the price!
