As Malaysia's electric vehicle market gradually shifts toward a younger and more personalized segmentation, the C-Segment pure electric SUV segment has become a focal point of competition among various brands. Against this backdrop, the 2024 BMW iX2 xDrive30 makes its debut, with its core selling points focusing on a combination of sporty design, all-wheel-drive performance, and luxurious smart features, while continuing BMW's consistent driving quality. This test drive will focus on whether its actual driving and riding performance matches its pricing, as well as its practicality in family use and daily commuting scenarios, providing a reference for potential buyers.

The iX2's exterior carries on the sporty genes of BMW's X series, with compact and sleek lines and a low-slung stance, showcasing clear coupe-SUV features. The front adopts BMW's iconic closed double kidney grille for electric vehicles, accented with chrome trim, and paired with sharp LED headlight clusters on either side, enhancing its high recognizability. Along the sides, the 20-inch large alloy wheels and prominent wheel arches exude a sense of power, with a waistline running from the front to the rear. At the rear, integrated LED taillights and a small spoiler are equipped, while black trim and a diffuser at the rear bumper further emphasize the sporty vibe. In terms of lighting systems, LED high and low beams along with daytime running lights come as standard, and the automatic headlight function adds convenience for everyday use.

Inside, the iX2's interior adopts BMW's latest family design language, with a clean and tech-forward overall style. The center console revolves around a 10.7-inch touchscreen, paired with a 10.25-inch fully digital instrument cluster, forming a dual-screen interaction system. In terms of materials, the upper part of the dashboard and the inner side of the door panels are covered with soft-touch materials, with stitching processes used in certain areas, adhering to the quality standards expected of a luxury brand. As for features, the front seats support electric adjustment, and both driver and passenger seats are equipped with lumbar support; HUD head-up display, Harman Kardon 12-speaker audio system, dual-zone automatic climate control come as standard, while rear air vents and USB ports are not missing either. Regarding storage space, the front center armrest box offers moderate capacity, door panel storage compartments can accommodate large water bottles, the trunk provides a regular capacity of 525 liters, and the rear seats support a 40:20:40 split-folding design, allowing for the transportation of large items when expanded.

In terms of space, the iX2 has a wheelbase of 2,692mm. The front row offers ample seating space, with a 175cm tall individual having around a fist plus two fingers' worth of headroom after adjusting the seat. Rear legroom is about a fist, while the coupe-style roofline slightly affects headroom, leaving around four fingers' worth, but it is sufficient for everyday family use. For safety features, the entire car comes standard with 6 airbags, vehicle stability control, blind-spot assist, lane departure warning, and active braking. The 360-degree surround-view camera and automatic parking assist function also make parking easier.

Regarding the powertrain, the iX2 xDrive30 is equipped with dual permanent magnet synchronous motors (on the front and rear), delivering a combined output of 230kW (317.4PS) and a peak torque of 494 Nm, with an official 0-100km/h acceleration time of 5.6 seconds. During actual driving, the power response is quick at launch, providing a noticeable pushback feeling with a light press of the pedal. Mid-to-high speed acceleration remains strong, and overtaking can be accomplished without pressing the pedal too deeply. The driving modes include Eco Pro, Comfort, and Sport; in Eco Pro mode, power output is more subdued, making it suitable for daily commutes, while in Sport mode, throttle sensitivity increases, steering becomes heavier, and the driving experience becomes more engaging.

The chassis suspension adopts a front MacPherson independent suspension and rear multi-link independent suspension, with a tuning bias towards sportiness while also considering comfort. When driving on urban roads, the suspension adequately filters out minor bumps; when passing speed bumps or uneven roads, the body posture remains stable with no significant residual vibrations. In terms of cornering performance, the body roll is well controlled, and the all-wheel-drive system provides excellent grip, giving great confidence when cornering. Regarding range, the official pure electric range is 417-449km. During this test drive on mixed road conditions (50% urban + 50% highway), the energy consumption was approximately 18.2kWh per 100km, with a range achievement rate of around 85%. In fast charging mode, it takes 0.48 hours (about 29 minutes) to charge from 10% to 80%, and a full slow charge takes 3.75 hours, offering good convenience in recharging.

In terms of driving comfort, the noise control performance of the iX2 is excellent, with wind and tire noise barely noticeable at high speeds. The seats offer good cushioning, making long drives less tiring. The energy recovery system supports three adjustable levels, with significant deceleration when lifting off the accelerator at the highest level, enabling one-pedal operation; at the lowest level, it simulates the coasting feel of fuel cars, making it easy to adapt.

Overall, the core strengths of the 2024 BMW iX2 xDrive30 lie in its sporty driving dynamics, extensive luxury features, and balanced space utilization. Compared to competitors in the same class, such as the Mercedes-Benz EQA and Audi Q4 e-tron, the iX2 stands out in acceleration performance and driving pleasure, offers a comparable level of features, but comes at a slightly lower price, making it highly cost-effective.

This car is suitable for two types of consumers: firstly, young buyers who emphasize driving experience and brand identity, as its sporty design and dynamic performance meet the demands for handling; secondly, families seeking balanced performance, as its ample space, comprehensive safety features, and convenient recharging capabilities cater well to daily commutes and family outings.

Overall, the 2024 BMW iX2 xDrive30 is a product that combines sporty DNA, luxury features, and the practicality of an electric vehicle well. It has strong competitiveness in the C-segment pure electric SUV market and is suitable for buyers who value brand quality while paying attention to the actual driving experience.

Before, driving a fuel car in Kuala Lumpur's morning rush hour left my legs sore. After switching to the iX2, it’s truly liberating! The dual motors go from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.6 seconds, weaving through traffic as smoothly as sipping white coffee, and the xDrive system is incredibly stable on the North-South Expressway, even on rainy days. The safety features are fully equipped. Last time I almost rear-ended the car in front, but the automatic braking stopped me with a “snap,” leaving me in a cold sweat but feeling genuinely reassured. As for the downsides, the rear middle floor is slightly high, making it a bit cramped for three passengers. The range is rated at over 400 km, but running the air conditioning on highways drains the battery faster. Luckily, charging stations in Malaysia are increasing, and fast charging takes only 29 minutes to replenish 80%, which is good for emergencies. Overall, spending 300,000 MYR on a premium all-electric SUV equipped with Harman Kardon and HUD is much more prestigious than a Model Y—totally worth it!

The appearance turns heads to the max, but the central control screen sometimes lags like a PPT, really annoying!

Previously, driving a gas car always made me heartbroken with the fuel cost during KL's morning traffic jams, but after switching to the iX2, it's absolutely amazing! Accelerating from 0-100 km/h in 5.6 seconds, it weaves through traffic like a "little electric rocket," and overtaking on highways is just a matter of pressing the accelerator. Took the family to Penang over the weekend, the 400+ km range was just enough for a round trip, and the fast charge takes only 40 minutes to recharge 80%—just enough time to enjoy a cup of teh tarik at the rest stop. The interior comes with Harman Kardon sound system and HUD; driving at night while checking the navigation feels easy on the eyes. However, the middle floor in the rear is a bit raised, making it a bit cramped for three passengers. Safety features are fully loaded—for example, it once performed an emergency brake to avoid a collision in Klang Valley, stopping with a "snap," scaring me but literally saving lives. The only minor drawback: slow charging takes 3.75 hours, so the home charger needs better time management. Overall, driving it in Malaysia eliminates the anxiety of fuel cars while retaining BMW's excellent handling, totally worth the RM290K!

Last Saturday, I took my family to the orchard at the foot of Yunding Mountain. Just as I started driving on the mountain road, a heavy rainstorm hit. The xDrive of the iX2 was very stable; the torque from the motor responded instantly when cornering, and its 5.6-second acceleration made overtaking particularly enjoyable (Performance: 5/5). The Harman Kardon sound system inside the car was very pleasant to listen to on a rainy day, but the bump in the middle of the back row was a bit uncomfortable for the feet (Interior: 4/5). During the rainstorm, the lane departure warning provided timely alerts, and the 360-degree camera system helped me avoid puddles on the road (Safety: 4/5). When parked at the orchard entrance, many tourists turned to look; the coupe-style design is indeed eye-catching (Exterior: 5/5).
