In the high-end sports car market, Bugatti Veyron 16.4 has always been an unmissable name—it is not only a symbol of speed but also a combination of engineering excellence and luxury. The 2023 Veyron 16.4 family has been updated, covering coupe, convertible, and high-performance versions. Its core selling points remain the fierce power, retaining the classic design while optimizing some configuration details. This time, our test drive included the base Veyron 16.4 and the Super Sport version, with the main purpose of verifying whether this "legendary sports car" can still maintain its benchmark status in the current market and whether the differences between the versions are worthy of attracting different target customers.

The exterior design of the Veyron 16.4 continues the classic rounded and streamlined shape, with an overall style that balances aerodynamics and recognizability. The front features a large-sized air intake grille, complemented by narrow LED daytime running lights on both sides, giving it a look that is both aggressive and elegant. The smooth side lines of the body extend from the A-pillar to the rear, reducing wind resistance. The 21-inch large wheels paired with front 265/680 R21 and rear 365/710 R21 wide tires further enhance its sporty stance. At the rear, the four-exhaust layout complements the simple LED taillights. The fastback design of the coupe and the detachable roof of the convertible (Grand Sport series) are the most noticeable differences in their external appearance. The lighting system across the range comes standard with automatic headlights and daytime running lights, combining functionality with iconic styling.

Inside the car, the Veyron 16.4's interior emphasizes luxury and functionality. The center console is symmetrically designed, with materials mainly consisting of leather and metal trim, offering a delicate touch. The digital multifunction dashboard provides clear displays of key information such as speed, RPM, and fuel levels. The steering wheel has a multifunctional design and comes with standard paddle shifters, making operation convenient. As for core configurations, all models support keyless entry, electrically adjustable front seats, and even feature 220V/230V power outlets to meet basic daily usage needs. However, compared to newer sports car competitors, it lacks advanced smart entertainment systems and remains more focused on driving itself.

Regarding space performance, the Veyron 16.4 is positioned as a two-door, two-seater sports car, with body dimensions of 4462mm in length, 1998mm in width, and 1204mm in height, and a wheelbase of 2710mm. The front-row seating space is ample, accommodating a 180cm tall passenger comfortably with enough headroom and legroom. The electrically adjustable seats offer multi-directional adjustments, making it easy to find a comfortable driving position. Storage capacity is relatively limited, with a trunk space of only 37 liters, which can fit just a single carry-on suitcase, suitable only for storing personal belongings on a daily basis. The in-car storage compartments are also minimal, primarily relying on the central armrest box. Standard features include front-row air conditioning, rain-sensing wipers, and electrically foldable rearview mirrors, meeting basic practicality needs.

In terms of power performance, the 2023 Veyron 16.4 family shows significant differences. The base model is equipped with an 8.0L W16 engine, delivering a maximum horsepower of 1014PS, maximum power output at 6000rpm, and peak torque at 5500rpm. Its official 0-100km/h acceleration takes 2.7 seconds, with a top speed of 407km/h. The Super Sport version boosts horsepower to 1200PS, reduces 0-100km/h acceleration to 2.5 seconds, and reaches a top speed of 431km/h. The convertible version, Grand Sport Vitesse, is even more impressive with 1217PS horsepower, 0-100km/h acceleration in 2.6 seconds, and a top speed of 410km/h. During actual driving, the base model demonstrates immediate power response when starting, with a strong push-back feeling when stepping on the accelerator deeply, and its mid-to-late acceleration remains consistently robust. The Super Sport version is more aggressive, with a higher throttle sensitivity, making overtaking almost instantaneous as power is instantly available. The entire range is equipped with AT transmissions, with clear shift logic and smoothness that suits the sports car positioning, while switching to sports mode further accelerates the shifting speed.

In terms of handling and chassis, the Veyron 16.4 series features front and rear double wishbone independent suspension systems, paired with an all-wheel-drive system, providing excellent stability performance. Steering is highly precise, with moderate feedback on the steering wheel. Body roll is well-controlled during cornering, maintaining body stability even on high-speed curves. When tackling bumpy roads, the suspension filters out most fine vibrations while retaining a certain amount of road feel, balancing handling with everyday comfort. As for braking performance, although no professional testing was carried out this time, in actual driving, the brake pedal feels linear, and the braking power is sufficient, inspiring great confidence during high-speed braking.

In the specialized performance testing section, we focused on fuel consumption and noise control. The official combined fuel consumption for both the base and Super Sport versions is 9.5L/100km, but in real driving conditions, city fuel consumption rises to 15-18L/100km, while highway driving requires 10-12L/100km, meeting expectations for large-displacement sports cars. Regarding noise control, the hardtop version suppresses wind and tire noises well at high speeds. Engine noise is not prominent during normal driving and only becomes audible in the cabin when pressing the accelerator hard, producing a deep, non-harsh sound. For the convertible version, wind noise significantly increases when the top is open, which is normal for convertible models.

Regarding driving comfort, the seats of the Veyron 16.4 provide strong support, ensuring that long drives do not feel tiring. The interior does not include many smart assistance features, but the standard lane departure warning and automatic emergency braking systems enhance everyday driving safety. Energy regeneration is exclusive to electric vehicles, so this fuel-powered sports car does not include such a design. However, the feedback from the accelerator and brake pedals closely aligns with traditional driving habits.

Overall, the core advantages of the 2023 Bugatti Veyron 16.4 family are clear: First, its extreme performance, with the entire series capable of 0-100km/h acceleration in 2.5-2.7 seconds and a top speed exceeding 400km/h, leaving almost no rival in its class. Second, its classic design and luxurious materials, retaining the iconic appearance of the Veyron series, with interior quality befitting a top-tier sports car. Third, comprehensive safety configurations, where even the performance-oriented models come standard with features like automatic emergency braking and lane departure warning, ensuring safety alongside performance. Compared to peers like the Koenigsegg Jesko or Pagani Huayra, the Veyron 16.4’s advantage lies in its more mature mechanical capabilities and balanced everyday usability, though it lags slightly behind newer models in smart features.

In terms of applicable scenarios, the base version of the Veyron 16.4 is suitable for users seeking classic and balanced performance, capable of meeting both daily driving and occasional track experiences. The Super Sport version is better suited for players with an extreme pursuit of speed, with performance sufficient for professional tracks. The Grand Sport series is aimed at those who enjoy convertible driving and value a sense of occasion. Overall, it is more appropriate for consumers with strong financial means who love driving and pursue top-notch performance and luxury.

The 2023 Bugatti Veyron 16.4 family remains one of the benchmarks in the top-tier supercar market. With its timeless classic design and continuously optimized performance, it proves its legendary status. If you're looking for a supercar that symbolizes prestige and delivers an ultimate driving experience, the Veyron 16.4 series is worth considering.

Last Wednesday after work, I encountered a heavy rainstorm, and the mountain roads of Kuala Lumpur were jammed like a parking lot. I was driving the Veyron, inching forward in traffic. Suddenly, the car in front braked abruptly. I floored the accelerator, and the 4000 RPM roar burst like muffled thunder through the rain, with the car leaping forward half a meter steadily — this performance in a traffic jam is simply "violent aesthetics." However, the matte black finish on this older model always gets spotted with mud during the rainy season, making it dirty again right after a wash — it lacks a touch of finesse. It's fair to deduct one point for the appearance.

Last week, during a rainy day, I drove on the East Coast Expressway. Just after passing the Kuala Lumpur toll booth, I encountered a major traffic jam. Driving the Veyron Grand Sport, with the 8.0L W16 engine growling, and its ability to go 0-100 km/h in 4 seconds, the thrill couldn't be unleashed in the traffic, so I could only crawl at a snail's pace. However, the all-wheel drive was incredibly stable, and there was no slippage on the wet roads. The active braking system also helped me avoid a cut-in. That said, with a 37L trunk, it can't even fit a carry-on suitcase. If I buy a durian, I have to place it in the passenger seat. The carbon fiber interior looks cool, but it's so hard that it digs into my leg, and driving for a long time makes my back ache. The fuel consumption is better than I expected, around 15L per 100 km in the city, and about 10L on the highway.

Previously drove a 911 Turbo S, thought it was powerful enough, until I got my hands on a Veyron—during Kuala Lumpur's morning rush hour, the explosive 2.7-second 0-100 km/h acceleration could only be held back, but as soon as the light turned green, a single press of the pedal left the traffic far behind. The all-wheel drive was so steady it felt glued to the asphalt. On weekends, driving up the Genting Highlands, the roar of the 8.0L W16 engine echoed thrillingly through the valleys, and the double-wishbone suspension handled cornering gravel effortlessly without a hint of instability. The interior's Alcantara and carbon fiber are top-notch, but the 37L trunk can't even fit a carry-on luggage; taking the kid to Penang means my wife has to drive another car. The most frustrating part is the 90mm ground clearance—some speed bumps in Kuala Lumpur's older neighborhoods require a crawl over them, constantly worried about scraping the undercarriage. But every time it’s parked under the Twin Towers and I see the awe in the eyes of onlookers, it’s all worth it!

Last week, during a heavy rainstorm, I was driving on the East Coast Highway when the water spray kicked up by trucks blurred my windshield. The rain-sensing wipers went crazy wiping, yet my vision remained hazy. Just as I started to panic, the lane departure warning suddenly beeped—turns out I had unknowingly crossed the line. I quickly corrected the steering wheel, gripping the cold carbon fiber ring, but felt reassured in my heart: this 8.0L beast’s ABS and vehicle stability control are no joke. But honestly, the interior is just so-so. The carbon fiber is real carbon fiber, but the seats are as hard as a bench. After driving for a long time, my back felt sore and trembling.

Last week, during a heavy rainstorm, I was stuck on an elevated road in downtown Kuala Lumpur. The car in front suddenly braked hard, and Veyron's active braking system intervened immediately. The ABS kicked in, but the car stopped steadily—this safety feature is truly not just for show. Later, I turned onto a mountain road. The torque of the 8.0-liter W16 engine pushed the 2.2-ton body, while the all-wheel-drive firmly gripped the slippery road surface during cornering. The paddle shifters on the steering wheel provided crisp gear changes, and the 2.7-second 0-100 km/h acceleration power didn't falter even on uphill slopes. The only drawback is that with a 100-liter fuel tank, you'll need to frequently stop for fuel on highways. However, considering the performance, it's definitely a 5-star experience for Malaysia's road conditions.
