BYD ATTO 3 2024 Review

As competition in the local new energy vehicle market intensifies, the C-Segment SUV category has gradually become a popular choice among family users and young consumers. This type of vehicle needs to meet the practicality of daily commuting while offering sufficient technological features and range performance. The 2024 BYD ATTO 3 410km Standard Range (hereinafter referred to as ATTO 3 Standard) is a new contender in this niche market. It continues BYD’s blade battery safety advantages while maintaining high cost performance in terms of configuration. In this test drive, we primarily want to examine its actual usability in terms of space performance, power response, and whether its range can meet the daily needs of local users.
The exterior design of the ATTO 3 Standard continues the familial "Ocean Aesthetics" style, with overall rounded and smooth lines. The front features a closed grille paired with irregularly shaped LED headlight clusters, giving it a high recognition level. The waistline of the side extends from the fender to the rear, paired with 17-inch multi-spoke wheels, making it visually elegant. The through-type LED taillights at the rear are a highlight, with clear effects once illuminated. The silver skid plate below the rear bumper adds a bit of ruggedness typical of SUVs. In terms of the lighting system, the entire series comes standard with LED headlights, daytime running lights, and an automatic headlight function, making daily use quite convenient.
Sitting inside, the first impression is that the interior materials feel solid, with plenty of soft-touch materials used on the dashboard and door panels, providing a pleasant tactile experience. The centerpiece of the dashboard is the 15.6-inch rotatable smart touchscreen, which operates smoothly and supports commonly used functions such as navigation, music, and smartphone connectivity. The instrument panel is a 5-inch fully digital display, clearly showing basic information such as speed, range, and battery level. For features, the front seats are electrically adjustable, and the rear seats can be folded down in a 60:40 split, which is handy for expanding storage space. The air conditioning is a single-zone automatic climate control system, and the rear row also has independent air vents and USB ports, catering to the needs of rear passengers.
In terms of space performance, the ATTO 3 Standard has a wheelbase of 2720mm, providing ample front-row space. When a 180cm-tall passenger is seated, there is a clearance of more than a fist for both headroom and legroom. The rear row is equally spacious, comfortably accommodating three adults without feeling cramped, with about two fists of legroom. The trunk has a standard capacity of 440L, which can be expanded by folding down the rear seats for larger items like strollers or suitcases. There are also plenty of storage compartments inside the car, including a central armrest box and door panel storage slots, which are practical for daily items like phones, water bottles, and other small objects.
In terms of power, the ATTO 3 Standard is equipped with a front permanent magnet synchronous motor with a maximum power output of 150kW and a peak torque of 310N·m. The official 0-100km/h acceleration time is 7.9 seconds. During actual driving, the power response is very quick in the initial stage, and a light press of the accelerator brings a noticeable push-back sensation, making overtaking or lane changing in city streets quite effortless. There are three driving modes to choose from: Eco, Standard, and Sport. In Eco mode, the power output is slightly gentler, suitable for daily commuting. In Sport mode, the power becomes more aggressive, ideal for scenarios requiring rapid acceleration.
In terms of handling and chassis performance, the combination of front MacPherson and rear multi-link independent suspension can effectively filter out small vibrations when dealing with common bumpy roads locally, showcasing good vehicle stability. When passing speed bumps, the suspension rebounds crisply without unnecessary shaking. The steering wheel has moderate steering effort and relatively precise directionality, and the body roll is well controlled when driving through curves, giving drivers enough confidence.
As for range, the official all-electric range is 410km (CLTC condition). During the actual test drive, we drove on both urban roads and highways, keeping the air conditioning and music on throughout the trip. The final range achievement rate was about 80%. For example, if the fully charged range shows 410km, it actually covered about 330km with 10% battery remaining. This performance is entirely sufficient for daily commutes. Even for short weekend trips, frequent charging is not required. In terms of charging speed, under fast charging mode, it takes about 40 minutes to charge from 30% to 80%. Slow charging takes around 9.7 hours, making it suitable for overnight home charging.
In terms of driving comfort, the noise control of the ATTO 3 Standard is quite good. At high speeds, wind and tire noise is minimal and does not affect communication among passengers inside the car. The seats provide excellent support and wrapping, ensuring comfort over long periods of sitting. There are three regenerative braking levels to adjust. At the highest level, releasing the accelerator pedal produces noticeable deceleration, allowing drivers to hardly use the brakes and saving some battery. At the lowest level, the driving experience is closer to that of a fuel-powered car, catering to users transitioning from fuel vehicles.
In summary, the core strengths of the 2024 ATTO 3 Standard are clear: spacious interior, rich features, stable range performance, and a competitive price within its category of new energy vehicles. Compared to other models in the same class, such as the MG ZS EV or Hyundai Kona Electric, the ATTO 3 Standard holds advantages in space and features, particularly rear space and smart connectivity functionality.
This car is better suited for family users who value practicality and cost-effectiveness. It meets the needs of daily commutes, picking up and dropping off children, and short weekend trips. Meanwhile, its tech features and stylish appearance can also attract some younger consumers. Overall, the ATTO 3 Standard is a very well-rounded new energy vehicle with no obvious shortcomings in safety, space, performance, or range, making it a worthy contender in the C-Segment SUV market.
