Nowadays, the market for C-class SUVs is becoming increasingly competitive. Consumers not only value practicality and space but also pay close attention to configuration and texture. Many brands are striving to balance these demands. The DS7 Crossback 1.6L, as a high-end model under Citroën, focuses on luxurious features and exquisite French design details. In this test drive, we will examine whether it can stand out in the segment through its "texture" while also assessing its practicality in daily use.

At first glance, the exterior reveals DS's signature style, leaning more toward delicacy rather than ruggedness. The front grille is hexagonal and surrounded by chrome trim, with the DS logo at the center and an ACC sensor discreetly hidden beneath it. The headlights feature a "Paris Light" LED design, each having three independent light sources that provide high recognizability when lit. The side profile extends from the fender to the rear, complemented by 19-inch multi-spoke wheels with well-balanced proportions. The rear LED taillights showcase the iconic "3D diamond" design, presenting a three-dimensional effect when illuminated. The chrome trim on the rear bumper enhances the overall sophistication of the exterior, which avoids overly exaggerated lines but incorporates intricate, elegant details that are pleasing to the eye.

Stepping inside, the interior material quality stands out as the highlight. The dashboard and inner door panels are wrapped in Nappa leather, featuring French double-stitch craftsmanship. Nearly all touchpoints are made of soft materials. The center console tilts slightly toward the driver, and the 12-inch floating screen boasts high resolution. The DS CONNECT system supports both CarPlay and CarLife, with smooth operational performance. The instrument panel is a 12.3-inch full LCD screen, offering three display modes and showing information such as navigation and fuel consumption. The configurations are comprehensive: the front seats have heating, ventilation, and massage functions, the dual-zone automatic climate control comes with independent rear outlets, and the 14 Focal speakers deliver audio quality that ranks above average in the segment. There's also a wireless charging pad and a 220V power outlet, maximizing convenience for daily use.

The spatial performance aligns with the expectations for a C-class SUV. With a 2738mm wheelbase, there are about two fist spaces of rear legroom after adjusting the front seats to a suitable position, and the headroom does not feel cramped. The central tunnel is not too elevated, making it comfortable for three people to sit in the back. The trunk has a regular capacity of 555L, which can be expanded to 1750L by folding down the rear seats, easily accommodating strollers or suitcases. In terms of storage, the door pockets can hold two water bottles, the armrest box is deep enough, and the front row includes two cup holders, showing thoughtful attention to detail.

As for power, it comes equipped with a 1.6T turbocharged engine delivering a maximum of 165PS and a peak torque of 240N·m, paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. During daily driving, it starts off briskly, with sufficient low-end torque, making city driving smooth and stress-free. The power remains ample when accelerating to 80 km/h, and overtaking is efficient with responsive downshifting from the transmission when the accelerator is pressed. Switching to sport mode enhances throttle sensitivity, maintaining revs above 2000 rpm for a more direct power output. However, when driving on highways at speeds exceeding 120 km/h, the pushback sensation during further acceleration diminishes. Overall, it is well-suited for daily commuting and occasional highway cruising.

In terms of handling, the steering wheel has minimal play, with precise steering. It feels light at low speeds and becomes heavier at high speeds, providing a good hand feel. The suspension system features front MacPherson and rear multi-link independent suspension, tuned for comfort without sacrificing support. When driving over speed bumps or uneven road surfaces, the suspension filters out most of the bumps, avoiding any harsh impacts. In corners, the body roll is well-controlled, and the solid chassis provides sufficient confidence. The brake pedal feels linear, with evenly distributed braking power, making it easy to control during daily driving.

As for fuel consumption, the official combined fuel consumption is 7.5L/100km. During this test drive of approximately 200km, which included both urban traffic and highway sections, the actual fuel consumption measured was 8.2L/100km. This result is average for its class—not exceptionally fuel-efficient but also not overly consuming. Noise control is well-executed; wind noise and tire noise are barely noticeable at speeds below 60km/h. At highway speeds of 120km/h, most of the wind noise comes from the A-pillars, but it doesn't affect in-car conversations. Engine noise is also well-suppressed, and the overall NVH performance aligns with its luxury car positioning.

Overall, the core strengths of the DS7 Crossback 1.6L lie in its interior quality and rich features. Few models within the same class offer full leather upholstery and Focal sound systems. Additionally, the space and power are sufficient for family use. Compared to similarly priced models from BBA, it offers better configurations and more luxurious materials, though its brand recognition is slightly lower. When compared to Japanese competitors, its design and quality stand out more. It's suitable for consumers who don't prioritize brand premium but value interior quality and practical features, such as 30- to 40-year-old family users or young people who appreciate French design.

In conclusion, the DS7 Crossback 1.6L is a "small yet refined" luxury SUV. While it doesn't boast extraordinary power and space, it leads its class in quality and features. Its comfort and convenience in everyday use are excellent. If you're looking for a stylish and well-equipped family SUV, it's worth considering.

Pros
The interior materials are high-end, offering a comfortable tactile feel, with multiple soft touches. Materials such as NAPPA leather enhance the sense of luxury.
Unique French design makes for a standout appearance, garnering high recognition for its aesthetics.
The 1.6T engine delivers ample low-end torque, providing stable crawling in urban areas and powerful acceleration with early turbo engagement.
Cons

Rear air conditioning cools slowly, suboptimal cooling effect in hot weather
Occasional lag in the central control touchscreen affects operational experience

Looks and safety are impeccable! It's just that the 1.6L needs a harder press on the gas pedal to climb hills, a bit sluggish.

Previously drove a Japanese SUV, switched to the DS7 purely for its French design – full marks for turning heads on the streets of Kuala Lumpur, giving it a solid 5 points for the exterior! The interior materials feel premium, but the central touchscreen occasionally lags, so I’ll deduct 1 point. During rush hour crawling on Jalan Ampang, the 1.6T has sufficient low-end torque, and the start-stop system transitions smoothly without jerking; on weekend trips down the North-South Expressway, the 165 horsepower provides stable overtaking power, and the magic carpet suspension filters out most bumps, allowing family members in the rear row to sleep soundly. One minor downside: in Malaysia's hot weather, the rear air conditioning cools a bit slowly. However, with a 5-year warranty + full safety features, the RM260,000 price tag feels much better value than same-class BBA models!

Sure! Here's the translation: Last week, I took my wife and child to the foot of Genting Mountain for a trip. Just as we started the winding mountain road, it began pouring rain. The 1.6T turbo kicked out torque at 1400 rpm, and it climbed smoothly with a little push on the gas. The 235 tires provided solid grip. In the heavy rain, the LED automatic headlights were impressively bright, and the rain-sensing wipers reacted even faster than I did. The rear air conditioning was on, my kid slept the entire way in the ISOFIX car seat, and my wife enjoyed music through the 14 speakers while I focused on the road conditions displayed on the fully digital dashboard. With a 555-liter trunk, I packed the stroller and camping gear. On the way downhill, the hill-start assist and vehicle stability were fully functional. The 250,000 MYR spent on this car is well worth it.
