Specs

Nowadays, the executive sedan market is highly competitive. Consumers not only value the prestige brought by brand heritage but also have clear demands for functional configurations and driving quality. As a key model under the Jaguar brand, the 2017 Jaguar XF 2.0 240PS Prestige boasts a rear-wheel-drive layout, a 5-year/150,000 km extended warranty, and a balanced configuration package, giving it a certain differentiated advantage among luxury executive sedans in the same price range. In this review, we focus on its daily driving performance, space utility, and whether its features cater to the needs of Malaysian users to evaluate if this British executive sedan can meet both family and business requirements.

From the exterior, the 2017 XF retains Jaguar's classic streamlined design. With a length of 4954mm and a wheelbase of 2960mm, the overall proportions are slender and well-balanced. The large front grille is accented with chrome trims, complemented by LED and xenon combination headlights on both sides, providing high recognizability. The body side lines flow neatly and smoothly from the hood to the rear, with a simple and clean waistline and 17-inch wheel rims that emphasize stability, aligning with its positioning as an executive sedan. At the rear, horizontal tail lights correspond to the vehicle's width, while rear fog lights and dual hidden exhaust outlets add a hint of sportiness. The overall style retains a sense of luxury without being overly ostentatious.

Inside the cabin, the interior features a dark theme with a soft-touch material wrapping the dashboard, accented with a small amount of chrome trim, lending a feel that is aligned with its segment. The central control screen has a moderate size with a clear operational logic. Physical buttons are retained below for convenient usage during driving. Standard features include keyless entry/start, front-row electric memory seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, among others. The rear seats have independent air vents to cater to passenger needs. The instrument panel uses an electronically illuminated analog style, presenting information intuitively, and the multifunction steering wheel is equipped with paddle shifters, enhancing driving convenience.

In terms of space, the 2960mm wheelbase provides ample legroom for rear passengers. A 180cm-tall individual sitting in the rear seat still has a two-fist gap between their knees and the front seat, and headroom is also relatively spacious. The rear seats support a 40:20:40 split-folding design, combined with a trunk capacity of 540L, which can accommodate transporting larger items. For storage space, the front center armrest box and door panel compartments are spacious, and the cup holder positions are designed well, ensuring practicality for daily use.

For performance, the 2.0L naturally aspirated engine produces a maximum output of 240PS, with peak torque available from 1750rpm. Paired with an AT transmission, the power delivery is linear. Though the initial acceleration is not aggressive, mid-range acceleration is sufficient, and stepping hard on the accelerator provides adequate power for overtaking. The rear-wheel-drive layout offers more agile handling, with precise steering and minimal slack. When taking corners, the body roll is well-controlled and remains within a reasonable range. The front double-wishbone and rear multi-link independent suspension are tuned for comfort, effectively absorbing vibrations on Malaysia's typically bumpy roads while maintaining vehicle stability.

In terms of fuel consumption, the official combined fuel consumption is 7.5L/100km. During the test drive, the fuel consumption in urban traffic was about 9L/100km, while on highways it dropped to 6.8L/100km, meeting expectations. The braking system responds swiftly, with a short braking distance that instills confidence. As for noise control, wind and tire noise are minimal below 80km/h, while wind noise slightly increases during high-speed driving but remains within acceptable levels.

In terms of safety configurations, six airbags, body stability control, front and rear parking sensors + 360-degree cameras are all standard, and the 5-year/150,000-kilometer warranty policy also provides more peace of mind for users. Compared to competitors in the same segment, the 2017 XF Prestige offers richer configurations at a similar price point, and its rear-wheel-drive layout provides a unique driving experience.

Overall, the core strength of the 2017 Jaguar XF 2.0 240PS Prestige lies in its balanced capabilities: it not only possesses the distinctiveness of a luxury brand but also features practical space and configurations, with driving quality that suits its executive car positioning. It is suitable for users who value brand heritage and need to balance family use with business receptions, particularly those who favor the handling characteristics of rear-wheel drive. If you're looking for an understated yet refined executive sedan, this XF is worth considering.

Pros
Powerful performance, 7.5 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h, 2.0T turbo delivers strong low-end torque, quick acceleration response for overtaking
Spacious interior, comfortable seating for three in the back row, large trunk storage capacity
Rich safety features, timely intervention of ABS, ESP, AEB, and thoughtful safety warnings
Cons
Fuel consumption is relatively high, 7.5L/100km in traffic jams, and the fuel gauge rises quickly, which is distressing

Rush hour overtaking feels great with a quick acceleration, reaching 0-100km/h in just 7.5 seconds! Three people in the back seat fit comfortably without feeling cramped, and the trunk can hold two carry-on suitcases with some space left. However, the fuel consumption is 7.5L, and watching the gauge during traffic jams feels a bit painful. But with a 5-year warranty for peace of mind, it's worth it!

The previous car I drove was a Japanese sedan, and I switched to the XF purely for its British style and charm. The interior leather feels delicate to the touch, and the wood grain trim adds a sense of luxury, but the passenger side storage compartment is a bit shallow, making it easy for phones to slide out. The exterior is sleek and low-slung; during the morning rush hour at Jalan Bukit Bintang in Kuala Lumpur, people in nearby cars can't help but take another look. On weekends, driving down the North-South Expressway to Penang, the 2.0T (the specs were mistakenly labeled; it's actually turbocharged) delivers power on demand. The rear-wheel drive feels very stable when cornering, and the 7.5L fuel consumption on highways is quite economical. Safety features are top-notch. Last time on a rainy day, I had to make an emergency brake to avoid a motorcycle and the ABS and ESP promptly kicked in, preventing any skidding. A 5-star safety rating well-deserved. However, the 17-inch tires feel a bit bumpy on rough roads, but overall, I'm very satisfied!

This morning, when I braked suddenly in the heavy rain, the seat lumbar support suddenly nudged me—a safety alert this thoughtful is just amazing!

Previously owned a Japanese car, which was reliable but a bit "soulless." Switching to the XF Prestige was no regret! During Kuala Lumpur Jalan Ampang's morning rush hour, the 2.0T had sufficient low-end torque, with torque kicking in at 1750rpm, making it easy to follow traffic. On weekends cruising on the North-South Expressway, the rear-wheel-drive chassis felt stable, and it was more agile in corners compared to rivals like the 5 Series. At 120km/h on the highway, the ride was super steady. The interior has a rich British flavor, with genuine leather seats and memory function. The dual-zone air conditioning was a lifesaver in Malaysia's scorching weather. The downside is the tire noise is slightly noticeable at high speeds. Perhaps switching to 225 wide tires on the 17-inch wheels might improve it? However, the 5-year 150,000 km warranty gives peace of mind in Malaysia, and it truly deserves the solid 4-star rating!

Last week, I took my family along the Genting Mountain road. In the rain and fog, the 240PS rear-wheel drive was very stable in the corners. The double-wishbone suspension absorbed the bumps from the gravel, and there was almost no sense of body roll in the turns. The wooden trim in the center console paired with the genuine leather seats, and my child slept all the way on the heated pad in the rear seat. Suddenly, the car in front braked sharply, but the AEB and 6 airbags reassured me—this 420,000 MYR was worth it, and the 5-year warranty is quite worry-free.
