Lexus NX 2015 Review

As competition in Malaysia's luxury compact SUV market intensifies, consumers' demand for distinctive design and practical features is simultaneously increasing. The 2015 Lexus NX, as the brand's first compact SUV, directly targets young family users seeking luxury quality and daily practicality. The highlights of this car are, firstly, the adoption of Lexus's iconic spindle grille design, and secondly, being one of the first in its class to be equipped with a fully touch-operated LCD center console. The core purpose of this test drive is to verify whether the design is timeless, whether the space meets family needs, and whether the performance matches its luxury positioning.
In terms of appearance, the spindle grille occupies most of the front area, surrounded by chrome trim, paired with sharp LED headlights on both sides, creating a high level of recognition. The side profile of the car features smooth lines, with a waistline extending from the front to the rear, complemented by 18-inch alloy wheels, giving a dynamic impression. At the rear, the design includes horizontally oriented LED taillights that echo the front headlights, while the dual exhaust layout below enhances the sporty character of the vehicle.
The interior adopts an asymmetrical design, with the center console tilted towards the driver for easier operation. The interior material is primarily soft-touch, coupled with silver trims and wood grain panels to enhance the luxurious feel. The center console houses a 7-inch touch LCD screen supporting Bluetooth and navigation functions, although the system's response speed is average. The seats are wrapped in genuine leather, with the front seats offering electric adjustment and heating functions, providing a comfortable seating experience.
In terms of dimensions, the length, width, and height are 4630mm, 1845mm, and 1645mm respectively, with a wheelbase of 2660mm. The front row offers generous space, with ample headroom and legroom; the rear row is quite standard, feeling slightly cramped when seating three adults, but the relatively low floor hump minimizes discomfort for the middle passenger. Regarding storage space, the trunk has a standard capacity of 500L, which can be expanded to 1545L by folding down the rear seats, meeting the daily needs of families. Additionally, the cabin is equipped with multiple storage compartments to conveniently store small items like phones and wallets.
In terms of power, the test-driven model is equipped with a 2.0T turbocharged engine, delivering a maximum power output of 175kW (238 horsepower) and a maximum torque of 350N·m. It is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The power response is relatively quick, with no sluggish feel when starting, and the acceleration process is smooth. Switching to sport mode makes the throttle response more sensitive, with ample power reserves for overtaking.
As for handling, the steering wheel is precise, with minimal play and an appropriate feel. The suspension system uses a front MacPherson independent suspension and a rear multi-link independent suspension. It is tuned for comfort, effectively filtering out most road bumps, though there is noticeable body roll when cornering at high speeds.
In terms of fuel consumption, actual tests show an average city road fuel consumption of about 10.5L/100km and an average highway fuel consumption of about 7.8L/100km. Overall, the fuel efficiency is fairly standard for a 2.0T engine.
In terms of ride comfort, the interior sound insulation is commendable. At high speeds, wind noise and tire noise are not noticeable. The seats offer excellent wrapping and support, ensuring long rides are not tiring. However, the position of the rear air conditioning vents is relatively far back, which makes the cooling effect for rear passengers average.
Overall, the 2015 Lexus NX performs well in design, configuration, and power, especially with its spindle grille design, which is highly recognizable. Compared to competitors in the same class, such as the BMW X3 and Mercedes GLC, this car offers better value for money and richer configurations. It is suitable for consumers who prioritize design and luxury while needing to meet family usage demands. If you are a young family user seeking individuality and a luxurious feel, this car is worth considering.
