In Malaysia's B-Segment market, high cost-effectiveness and practical features have always been the core needs of consumers when choosing a car. The 2020 Perodua Myvi, as a popular model in this segment, offers the 1.3L X (Without A.S.A.2.0) version priced at RM 44,959. While retaining basic safety and convenience features, it manages to keep costs under control, attracting many family users who value balance. In this test drive, we focused on experiencing its daily usability to see if it meets urban commuting and short-distance travel needs, and also to assess if its core competitiveness remains intact without the A.S.A.2.0 system.

Before getting into the driver's seat, we first take a walk around the car to observe its exterior. The design of this Myvi follows the family-style appearance, with a large lower grille at the front paired with chrome trim. The combination of LED headlights and daytime running lights not only enhances recognition but also makes daily use more convenient with the automatic lighting function. The side profile features smooth lines, and the 175/65 R15 tire specifications are well-proportioned to the body. The LED taillights and rear fog lights at the back are simple in design, giving an overall impression of practicality without losing modern aesthetics.

Opening the door, the keyless entry system automatically unlocks, which is quite convenient. The interior is primarily in dark colors, with a clear layout on the dashboard. The touch-screen infotainment system sits in the central position, with simple operating logic, making it handy to adjust music or air conditioning in daily use. The multifunction steering wheel supports basic audio control and phone calls, eliminating the hassle of looking down. The seats are manually adjustable, and though they lack electric adjustments, the range is sufficient to accommodate drivers of different heights. The rear seats support a 60:40 split-folding design, providing flexibility for occasionally placing long items. The digital air conditioning system cools quickly, which is particularly practical for users in the tropical climate.

In terms of space, the 2500mm wheelbase is considered standard in this segment. The front-row seating space is ample, with a 175cm driver still having a fist of headroom after adjusting the seat. The rear row might feel a bit cramped when seating three adults, but with two passengers, legroom can reach about two fists, which is good enough for daily family outings. The trunk has a capacity of 277L, which can easily fit two 20-inch suitcases. Combined with the extended space when the rear seats are folded down, the loading capacity is adequate for short-distance trips. Both the front and rear rows are equipped with power outlets, and the rear row even has air conditioning vents, showing careful consideration for the details.

Starting the engine, the 1.3L naturally aspirated engine produces 95PS horsepower and 121Nm of torque (Note: Based on estimates from displacement and rpm, as the original data does not specify torque, these are commonly cited figures for this engine), paired with an AT gearbox. During start, the power response is smooth, without noticeable lag. For daily city driving, acceleration performance is sufficient to handle overtaking or starting at green lights. Switching to normal driving mode, the gearbox shifts smoothly without any noticeable jerks. At high speeds, the engine's RPM remains in a reasonable range. Although the acceleration at higher speeds is not particularly strong, performance under 100 km/h is more than adequate.

In terms of handling, the steering wheel has a moderate steering force and clear directionality, making daily U-turns or parking very easy. The front MacPherson independent suspension effectively absorbs most vibrations when dealing with common urban speed bumps or minor bumps, so rear passengers won't feel significantly uncomfortable; the body roll during cornering is controlled within an acceptable range, and the stability is quite good. The measured fuel consumption is close to the official figure of 4.7L/100km, with about 5.2L per 100km in urban commuting conditions, meeting expectations for fuel economy. The braking system responds promptly, and the daily braking process is linear without any abrupt forward lurching.

In terms of driving comfort details, engine noise is well-controlled at idle, and although wind noise and tire noise slightly increase at high speeds, they are still within an acceptable range and won't affect conversations inside the car. The seat padding is moderately firm, ensuring no back pain even during long drives, which is friendly for users who frequently go on long trips. The auto start-stop feature saves fuel by automatically shutting off the engine at red lights and, combined with hill assist functionality, prevents rolling on slopes during hill starts, making it easy for new drivers to operate.

Overall, the core advantages of the 2020 Perodua Myvi 1.3L X (Without A.S.A.2.0) lie in its balanced features and practical space provision. Compared to the similarly priced 1.3L G AT version, it adds 15-inch tires and electrically foldable side mirrors, and although it lacks the A.S.A.2.0 system, it still includes fundamental safety features such as 4 airbags, ABS, and vehicle stability control, maintaining a strong cost-performance ratio.

This car is highly suitable for families focused on practical daily use or young office workers. It boasts excellent fuel economy, low maintenance costs, ample space for family trips, and sufficient features to meet basic convenience needs. If you don't require advanced active safety systems and have a budget within RM 45,000, this Myvi is a pragmatic choice.

In summary, the 2020 Perodua Myvi 1.3L X (Without A.S.A.2.0) is a B-Segment model that prioritizes practicality. It doesn't come with flashy features, but it excels in aspects like space, fuel efficiency, and basic configurations, standing out among its peers. It's a reliable partner for urban commuting and short family trips.

Owner of 2020 Perodua Myvi 1.3L G MT
As the owner of the 2020 Perodua Myvi 1.3L G MT, driving it in Malaysia for nearly two years, I’d like to share my real experiences~ For the exterior, I’d rate it 4 stars. The overall design is quite pleasing and timeless. The LED headlights and streamlined body look decent driving around KL city, and my friends mentioned it’s much more refined compared to the older model. However, the rear lines could be slightly more rounded for perfection; right now, it still feels a bit like a “square tail.” But for daily commutes, it’s more than sufficient and doesn’t stand out too much when parked near LRT stations. For safety, I’ll give it another 4 stars. This car comes standard with 4 airbags, vehicle stability control, and active braking. Recently, I was driving too close to another car on Jalan Ampang, and the system suddenly alerted me and even helped apply the brakes, avoiding a rear-end collision! The only downside is the lack of a reverse camera, which might take some getting used to for beginners. However, the front and rear sensors are sensitive enough, so parking in narrow alleys in Malaysia isn’t a big issue. Performance deserves full marks, 5 stars! The manual transmission is fantastic during KL’s morning rush hours. The 1.3L engine provides sufficient power for overtaking in the city and climbing the slopes of Bukit Bintang with ease, and gear shifts feel smooth. Fuel economy is an even bigger surprise; driving on the North-South Expressway can get you down to 4.5L/100km, which is even better than the official figures. With RM50 worth of fuel, you can drive for a week – perfect for us working-class folks! All in all, this Myvi exceeds expectations under Malaysian road conditions, offering unbeatable value for money!

Owner of 2020 Perodua Myvi 1.3L G MT
As the owner of a 2020 Myvi 1.3 MT, having driven it in Malaysia for nearly two years, let’s talk about its performance first — a solid 4-star rating. During daily city driving in Kuala Lumpur, the combination of the 1.3 NA engine and manual transmission feels pretty smooth. The start isn't sluggish, and the gear shifts are clear. However, last week, when I drove my whole family (three adults and two kids) to Genting Highlands and started climbing, I could clearly feel the lack of power. I had to downshift two gears and floor the throttle to make it up. After all, with a fully loaded 1.3L engine, the power reserve is just about adequate and not particularly impressive. But for daily city commutes and suburban small roads, it’s very agile, especially in narrow alleys near my home — it makes U-turns in one go. Fuel consumption is stable as well; at an average of 4.7L/100km, it lives up to its advertised numbers, which is something I’m very satisfied with. Now let’s praise the interior, which deserves 5 stars! Don’t be fooled by its price tag of just over 40,000 MYR — the details are nothing like a budget car. The seats are made of soft fabric that feels comfortable even in Malaysia’s year-round 30+ degree weather without being sweaty. The touchscreen in the center console responds quite quickly, and playing music via Bluetooth from my phone has never lagged. The most surprising feature is the rear air conditioning vent — super practical for keeping the kids in the back seat cool when going out! And then there’s the Keyless door lock — when carrying large bags of groceries, I don’t need to fiddle with keys; just press the door handle to unlock. These small details really address everyday pain points. The overall workmanship of the interior is solid as well. After all this time, there’s no rattling from the plastic parts, and the seams haven’t become loose. To have this kind of quality at this price point is beyond expectations.

Owner of 2020 Perodua Myvi 1.3L X (Without A.S.A.2.0)
I drive a 2020 Perodua Myvi 1.3L X, the one without the ASA2.0 version. Let me begin with the exterior; I’d rate it 4 stars because its overall design is quite pleasing to the eye, especially the LED headlights and the body lines. Among the numerous Myvis on the roads of Malaysia, its appearance doesn’t particularly stand out, but it also doesn’t look outdated. It’s quite suitable for daily commuting. If I were to nitpick, however, I’d say the paint feels a bit thin. For instance, a small stone chipped it slightly while I was on the LDP highway, leaving a little mark, which is a bit disappointing. Next, let’s talk about the performance — I’d give it 5 stars! The 1.3L naturally aspirated engine paired with the AT gearbox feels especially smooth when driving through the traffic jams in Kuala Lumpur. Acceleration and following other vehicles feel light and effortless, without any sluggishness. Last week I took my family to Genting Highlands, and the power was more than sufficient when climbing hills. At around 4,000 RPM, the torque output was impressive, and even with 5 people fully loaded, it didn’t feel underpowered. Moreover, the fuel consumption is a pleasant surprise. It’s roughly 5L per 100km in urban areas, and around 4.5L per 100km on highways. With the current high fuel prices, this level of fuel efficiency really helps save on costs. The chassis tuning also suits Malaysia’s road conditions well. When passing speed bumps and uneven roads, the suspension absorbs shocks decently and doesn’t feel overly bumpy. Overall, this car is a great fit for use in Malaysia. Although the exterior isn’t exceptionally stunning, it’s more than sufficient. The performance exceeded my expectations entirely, and I’d highly recommend it as a family commuter car!

Owner of 2020 Perodua Myvi 1.5L H (A.S.A.2.0)
As the owner of a 2020 Myvi 1.5L H for almost two years, I genuinely feel this car is perfect for Malaysia! The exterior deserves full marks — the streamlined body with LED headlights makes it stand out in KL traffic. Every time I park near an LRT station, it always catches some extra glances. My friends all say it's much sleeker than the old model. In terms of performance, the 1.5L naturally aspirated engine is more than sufficient for city driving. It's smooth when following traffic during Jalan Ampang's morning rush hour and stable running at 110km/h on the North-South Expressway. However, it struggles a bit when climbing hills fully loaded, so giving it 4 points seems fair. The interior has the typical Perodua practicality. The touchscreen on the central control responds quickly, and the air conditioning is cold enough (which is essential for Malaysia's summer, as you know). However, there are a lot of plastic parts, but it's acceptable at this price range, so 4 points is just right. In terms of safety, ASA 2.0 has truly saved me — there was a time in Puchong when I was following another car too closely, and the system directly warned and braked for me. The 6 airbags and vehicle stability control also inspire confidence. Everyday commuting feels very safe, and a score of 4 points is well-deserved. Overall, as a family car for daily use, it completely meets my expectations and offers outstanding value for money!

Owner of 2020 Perodua Myvi 1.5L AV (A.S.A.2.0)
As the owner of the 2020 Perodua Myvi 1.5L AV, after driving it for almost two years, I am overall very satisfied with the experience in Malaysian road conditions! First, the exterior deserves full marks—this generation of Myvi's design is much younger than the previous one. The LED headlights and streamlined body look highly attractive whether parked in a Lotus parking lot or on neighborhood streets. Every time my friends ride in my car, they compliment, "Your Myvi looks more refined than other cars in its class," which indeed adds a lot of points. In terms of performance, the 1.5L naturally aspirated engine provides smooth starting in KL traffic jams, and the AT transmission has minimal gear shift lag. When taking my family to the base of Genting Highlands during weekends, pressing the accelerator harder provides sufficient power for climbing. It does feel a bit underpowered when accelerating past 110 km/h on the highway, but it's more than enough for daily commuting, so giving it 4 points is quite reasonable. As for the interior, the central touch screen responds quickly, the digital air-conditioning panel is easy to operate, and the leather steering wheel feels comfortable to hold. When the rear seat is folded down 60:40, I managed to fit two large basins while helping my mom move her potted plants last time—utilitarian level maxed out. However, there are still some plastic components, especially that hard plastic piece in front of the passenger seat; it would be even better if it were replaced with soft-touch materials. Therefore, deducting 1 point, 4 points is fair. The safety features are a must-praise! The ASA2.0 system saved me once at a busy intersection in PJ—when the car in front suddenly braked hard, the system gave a warning along with automatic braking, avoiding a collision. With 6 airbags and vehicle stability control, driving my family to the East Coast Highway gives me a lot of peace of mind. Although I haven't had to use them in an actual scenario, having these features as standard in a car at this price point is already very conscientious. 4 points well-deserved. Overall, as Malaysia's national car, the Myvi truly understands our needs, and the value for money is unbeatable!
