Nowadays, consumers in the C-segment car market are increasingly concerned about unique design and practical space. A simple sedan or SUV can no longer meet everyone's needs — and the 2024 Peugeot 408 ALLURE is here to address this "crossover demand." As the base model of the lineup, it comes at a price of RM 146,055, offering 218PS 1.6T turbocharged power, a 7-year or 200,000 km extended warranty, and exceptional wheelbase performance, inevitably raising curiosity: Can the base model really support the "fashionable" positioning of the 408 series? In this test drive, we focus on the ALLURE model to see if its static experience and dynamic performance meet the daily needs of family users.

The appearance of the 2024 Peugeot 408 ALLURE immediately sets it apart from traditional sedans: Its coupe-like sloping roofline gently descends from the B-pillar, paired with a ground clearance of 189mm, offering the passability of an SUV while retaining the sleekness of a sedan. The front features Peugeot's signature frameless grille with a dot-matrix design inside, while the LED daytime running lights on both sides are shaped like "lion claws," providing high recognizability when illuminated. The waistline on the side of the car extends from the front fender to the tail light, matched with 225/55 R18 tires, giving the overall proportions a balanced look. The rear design continues to stand out: Smoked LED tail lamps adopt a seamless layout, with the Peugeot lettering embedded in the center. The lower diffuser design adds a touch of sportiness, and even the base model does not feel overly simplistic.

Once inside, the first noticeable feature is the i-Cockpit cabin layout: The steering wheel is relatively small in size and features a flat-bottom design. Coupled with a 10-inch fully digital instrument cluster, drivers don't need to lower their gaze too much to view vehicle information while driving. The 10-inch touchscreen on the center console is slightly tilted toward the driver, making it easy to operate. The system supports basic Bluetooth, CarPlay, and Android Auto, and responds at an average speed. In terms of materials, soft-touch plastic is used for the door panels and the top of the center console, while harder plastics are used in the middle sections, but the seams are handled quite evenly. In terms of features, the ALLURE variant comes standard with power-adjustable driver seats, automatic air conditioning, and a 6-speaker audio system, which is sufficient for daily use. The rear offers air-conditioning vents and power outlets, but the rear seats are manually adjustable, which differs from the higher PREMIUM trim.

Space performance is one of the 408's advantages: Its 2787mm wheelbase is among the top-tier in the C-segment. When the front seats are adjusted to a comfortable posture, a 175cm tall passenger still has a headroom of a fist and two fingers in the front; the rear legroom can reach two fists, and the headroom, though slightly compressed due to the sloping roofline, still leaves about four fingers' worth of space, so it doesn’t feel restrictive. The trunk has a capacity of 536L, which can easily accommodate two 28-inch suitcases plus a carry-on. The rear seats support a 60:40 split folding mechanism, allowing for greater expansion of the storage space to accommodate long items easily.

In terms of performance, the ALLURE variant is equipped with a 1.6L turbocharged engine that delivers a maximum power of 162kW (218PS) and a maximum torque of 300Nm, paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. The official 0-100km/h acceleration is 8.8 seconds. During actual driving, the power response is relatively brisk in the initial stage, with the turbo kicking in around 2000 RPM, delivering a noticeable push when it does. When overtaking, stepping on the accelerator deeply prompts the gearbox to downshift quickly, providing direct power delivery. The normal mode is sufficient for daily driving, while switching to sport mode increases throttle sensitivity and delays shifting, which is suitable for occasional driving excitement. Regarding fuel consumption, we drove 50 kilometers each in urban congestion and highway conditions, achieving a combined fuel consumption of about 8.2L/100km, slightly higher than the official 7.56L, but reasonable considering real-world conditions.

The handling and chassis performance exceed expectations: the steering wheel has a relatively firm turning force and precise directionality, with no obvious play. During cornering, the body roll is well controlled. The suspension is tuned to be firm but elastic, effectively absorbing most minor bumps when passing speed bumps or uneven roads, without feeling loose. As a rear-wheel-drive model, its rear tracking is excellent. The body remains stable during high-speed lane changes. Regarding noise control, at speeds under 80 km/h, wind and tire noises are not noticeable, though at speeds above 100 km/h, wind noise gradually increases but does not affect conversations inside the car. The seats provide good support, and the electrically adjustable driver seat allows comfortable seating positions, ensuring long drives are not tiring.

In summary, the core advantages of the 2024 Peugeot 408 ALLURE are clear: its crossover exterior design, spacious interior, powerful performance, coupled with a price of RM 146,055 and a 7-year/200,000 km warranty. Compared to competitors like the Toyota Camry or Honda Accord in the same segment, it offers better performance parameters, comparable space, and a more competitive price. Compared to its own PREMIUM version, it lacks the electric passenger seat and all-wheel drive system, but its basic configuration is sufficient to meet the needs of family users.

This car is clearly suitable for specific groups of people: families seeking a unique design and spacious interior or young individuals who enjoy an occasional driving thrill. It can serve as a daily commuting vehicle while also meeting the needs of family outings on weekends. If you are not interested in choosing a conventional sedan or SUV but value performance and space, the 2024 Peugeot 408 ALLURE is a worthwhile choice.

Owner of 2019 Peugeot 408 e-THP
As the owner of the 2019 Peugeot 408 e-THP, having driven it in Malaysia for almost two years, what surprises me the most is the interior! Every time I step inside, it feels so comfortable. The piano black finish on the center console combined with the metallic trims gives it a premium feel, unlike the overly plastic-like interiors of similarly priced Japanese cars. Especially the small steering wheel, it feels great to hold, and with the i-Cockpit digital instrument panel, even when stuck in Kuala Lumpur traffic, looking at the clear display makes it less frustrating. The safety features are quite reassuring as well. After all, it comes with six airbags and an ESC stability control system. Last time on the North-South Expressway, when a car suddenly changed lanes, I had to steer abruptly but the car remained stable without losing control. However, it would be even better if it had an automatic emergency braking system. With frequent unexpected situations on Malaysian highways, having this feature would bring extra peace of mind. So I’ll give it 4 stars.

Owner of 2024 Peugeot 408 PREMIUM
As the owner of a 2024 Peugeot 408 PREMIUM, after driving it in Malaysia for nearly three months, I truly feel that the money was well spent! First, let's talk about the performance. The 1.6T+8AT combination is just perfect for local road conditions—no jerking whatsoever during the stop-and-go of Kuala Lumpur's morning rush hour. On the North-South Expressway, stepping on the accelerator unleashes the 300N·m of torque, making overtaking a breeze, with the 8.8-second 0-100 km/h acceleration giving me full confidence when overtaking trucks on the highway. Plus, the fuel consumption is even a bit lower than the officially stated 7.56L, and in city traffic jams, it's only around 8.2L, which is a pleasant surprise! The exterior design gets a 4 out of 5 because it is truly avant-garde. The coupe-like fastback design turns heads in parking lots, the LED lion-eye headlights are incredibly distinguishable, but the lion-claw tail lights could be a bit brighter for perfection. Overall, though, it's still more unique compared to German cars in the same class. What gives me the most peace of mind is the safety features. The 6 airbags, active braking, and lane departure warning are all standard. One time in George Town, Penang, a motorcycle suddenly darted out, and the active braking system immediately kicked in to stop the car. It scared me but also made me completely trust this system. The 7-year or 200,000 km warranty is also rare in Malaysia, so there's no worry in daily driving.

Owner of 2024 Peugeot 408 GT
As the owner of the 2024 Peugeot 408 GT, I’ve been driving it in Malaysia for three months and I genuinely feel this car suits my taste! The exterior deserves full marks! Every time I park at KLCC or outside a café in Subang Jaya, people always turn to look—the fastback design combined with the lion claw LED taillights lights up at night with incredible recognition, making it much more distinctive than the common Japanese sedans on the road! I’ll give the interior 4 stars; the design is really impressive, especially with that 3D instrument cluster and i-Toggles touch keys, which felt very novel when I first used them. The FOCAL sound system is amazing for listening to Malay songs during traffic jams. However, there’s a small flaw: the central screen sometimes lags, like when I’m stuck in traffic on Jalan Ampang and want to change tracks, it takes two taps to react. Hopefully, future OTA updates can optimize this. In terms of safety, it’s definitely 5 stars! Last time on the NSE, a truck suddenly changed lanes, and the automatic braking system stopped me just in time—it gave me quite a scare. The lane departure warning is particularly useful when driving at night on roads like Lumut, preventing me from veering off due to fatigue. The 7-year, 200,000 km warranty also provides peace of mind, especially given Malaysia’s complex road conditions—it’s reassuring to have that kind of coverage. Overall, except for the occasional screen lag, I’m very satisfied with it and would recommend it to friends who value individuality and safety!

Owner of 2024 Peugeot 408 PREMIUM
As the owner of a 2024 Peugeot 408 PREMIUM, after driving in Malaysia for three months, what I want to praise the most is its appearance! The lion claw headlights + fang-like daytime running lights are super eye-catching. Every time I park at KLCC parking lot or Jalan Bukit Bintang roadside, people always turn their heads to look. The fastback design paired with 18-inch wheels exudes a sense of quality even in Malaysia's hot and humid weather, which perfectly aligns with my aesthetic. Giving it 5 stars is not an exaggeration! I’m also quite satisfied with the safety features. When driving long distances on the North-South Expressway, the lane departure warning system reminds me to stay in my lane. The automatic braking helped me avoid a rear-end collision once in Kuala Lumpur’s traffic jams—when the car in front suddenly braked hard, the system intervened immediately to decelerate, reacting very quickly. But the small downside is that there's no Level 2 autonomous driving, just basic cruise control. Driving on highways for long periods still requires my full attention to the road, so I deducted 1 star and feel 4 stars is reasonable. Overall, these two aspects meet my expectations for a C-segment car. Driving it on Malaysian roads feels both safe and stylish!

Owner of 2024 Peugeot 408 ALLURE
As the owner of the 2024 Peugeot 408 ALLURE, I've been driving in Malaysia for almost three months now, and overall, the experience has been quite satisfying! Let’s start with safety. I would rate it 4 stars because its features are really well-equipped—6 airbags, lane departure warning, and active braking are all standard. Last month, I encountered a car suddenly changing lanes on the North-South Expressway, and the active braking system immediately intervened to stop my car. That really scared me at the time, but thinking back now, I'm so relieved. However, it would be perfect if it came with a 360-degree surround view camera. After all, parking lots in Kuala Lumpur can be quite tight sometimes, and solely relying on the rear camera still requires a lot of caution. In terms of appearance, the coupe design of the 408 really turns heads on Malaysian roads! Especially the claw-mark LED taillights, which are super recognizable when lit up at night. My friends often say it looks like a "little lion" following behind. However, the car's paint feels a bit thin. Last time, when parked on the roadside, it got scratched by a passing motorbike and the base paint was exposed, so this needs extra care. I would also rate the interior 4 stars. The fully digital instrument cluster and 10-inch infotainment screen look very high-tech and operate smoothly. The electric seat adjustment is especially useful in Kuala Lumpur’s hot weather. Using the mobile app to remotely start the car and activating the seat ventilation before getting in makes it very comfortable. However, the rear seats are manually adjustable—if they could be upgraded to electric adjustment, it would be even more convenient. Overall, the 408 performs very well on Malaysian roads. Its safety features, exterior design, and interior meet my expectations, and if some of its details could be further optimized, it would be even better!
