In recent years, the demand for 7-seater SUVs among Malaysian households has continued to rise. This type of vehicle needs to meet the economic demands of daily commuting while also providing practical space for group outings, and the 2019 Peugeot 5008 THP Plus Active aims precisely at this niche market. With its 1.6T turbocharged engine power reserve, advanced configuration list, and flexible 7-seat layout as its core selling points, many consumers are curious whether this French SUV can stand out in the highly competitive C-segment market. This test drive will focus on space practicality, performance, and configuration experience, providing real references for interested users.

The exterior design of the 2019 Peugeot 5008 THP Plus Active continues the brand's iconic "Lion Roar" front face. The large grille is paired with chrome accents, while the sharply designed LED headlights on both sides connect with the grille to form an integrated visual effect with high recognition. The body’s side profile features smooth lines, dynamic 18-inch alloy wheels, and a waistline stretching from the A-pillar to the rear, enhancing the layering of the body. At the rear, the LED taillights adopt a claw-like design, creating a distinct effect when lit. Chrome decorations below the rear bumper further add to the refined feel. The overall style leans towards fashionable and stable, meeting the aesthetic preferences of family users.

Entering the cabin, the center console adopts an asymmetrical design tilted towards the driver, making operations more ergonomic. The interior materials primarily use soft-touch surfaces, complemented by silver trims, providing a good sense of texture. The central control area is equipped with an 8-inch capacitive touchscreen, supporting multimedia, navigation, and other functions, with satisfactory response speed. The instrument cluster features a fully digital display, allowing for different display modes to be switched, providing intuitive readings like speed and fuel consumption. A HUD (Head-Up Display) system is standard, enabling drivers to view key data without looking down, enhancing convenience. For seats, the driver’s seat supports 8-way electric adjustments, while the passenger seat supports 6-way electric adjustments. The leather seats provide good wrapping and support, making long trips less tiring.

The vehicle's dimensions measure 4670mm×1855mm×1655mm, with a wheelbase reaching 2840mm, laying a strong foundation for interior space. The second-row seats support a 33:33:33 split fold, fore-and-aft sliding, and angle adjustments. The center seat is equipped with a small table for rear passengers to place items conveniently. A passenger with a height of 175cm sitting in the second row will have two fists of legroom and about one fist of headroom, offering spacious comfort. The third-row seats are more suitable for children or short-distance trips for adults, as the legroom is slightly tight, but it serves well for emergency use. The trunk has a standard volume of 952L, which can be expanded to 2042L by folding down the second and third rows, accommodating large items with ease. Storage space inside the car is abundant, with large compartments in the front door panels, a deep central armrest box, and cup holders and storage bins in the rear, showcasing excellent practicality.

In terms of performance, it is equipped with a 1.6T turbocharged engine, delivering a maximum power of 167PS and a peak torque that kicks in at just 1400rpm, paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. During daily driving, it offers a brisk start with sufficient low-end torque, making it easy to follow traffic or overtake in urban environments. Switching to Sport mode enhances throttle response, accelerates gear shifts, and provides a more direct power output, offering confidence during highway overtakes. The official 0-100km/h acceleration time is 8.9 seconds. In actual tests, the power delivery is linear, with no noticeable turbo lag.

In terms of handling performance, the steering wheel is precise, with minimal play, light at low speeds, and stable at high speeds, aligning with the SUV's positioning. The front MacPherson independent suspension is tuned for comfort, filtering out most road bumps. When passing over speed bumps or uneven roads, the vibration of the car body is not overly noticeable. During cornering, the suspension's support is adequate, with the body roll within an acceptable range and decent vehicle stability. The braking system performs stably, with a moderate brake pedal travel and linear braking force output. The vehicle remains stable during emergency braking.

In terms of fuel consumption, the official combined fuel economy is 7L/100km. During the actual test drive, fuel consumption was about 8.5L/100km in urban conditions and roughly 6.8L/100km on the highway. Overall, the performance meets expectations. Regarding noise control, at speeds below 80km/h, the cabin noise is relatively low, mainly coming from the tires and wind noise. At speeds exceeding 100km/h, wind noise increases slightly but does not affect normal conversation.

Compared to models in the same segment, the 2019 Peugeot 5008 THP Plus Active has significant configuration advantages. Features such as HUD head-up display, fully digital instrument cluster, and electrically adjustable seats are not commonly found in vehicles of the same price range, offering outstanding value for money. However, the limited space in the third row is a shortcoming. If there is a frequent need for 7-passenger full-load usage, it may require careful consideration. Overall, this car is more suited for families prioritizing configuration, spatial flexibility, and performance. It can handle daily commutes, weekend short trips, or occasional long-distance travel with ease.

In conclusion, the 2019 Peugeot 5008 THP Plus Active secures its place in the C-segment 7-seater SUV market with its rich features, versatile space, and balanced performance. For families that mostly travel with 5 people but occasionally need 7 seats for emergencies, it is a choice worth considering.

Owner of 2019 Peugeot 5008 THP Plus Allure
As the owner of the 2019 Peugeot 5008 THP Plus Allure, after driving in Malaysia for almost two years, the thing I want to praise the most is its appearance! Every time I park at the KLCC parking lot or on Penang's George Town old streets, people always turn their heads to look — the lion claw headlights and the floating roof are so distinctive. French design is indeed different and stands out in Malaysia, where Japanese cars dominate the streets. A full 5 out of 5 for appearance, no question about it! As for the interior, it's generally good. The 8-inch central control screen and fully digital instrument panel convey sufficient technological feel, and the Arkamis sound system is very clear when listening to local Malaysian radio stations on the highway. However, I give it 4 stars because of some details: for example, the piano lacquer finish on the central control panel easily shows fingerprints during Kuala Lumpur's rainy season, so I have to spend quite some time cleaning before picking up clients; also, the material of the third-row seats is slightly harder than that of the first two rows, making long trips to Genting Highlands with family a bit tiring. But overall, the texture and space design of the interior (especially the 7-seat layout) are strong contenders among family cars in Malaysia!

Owner of 2019 Peugeot 5008 THP Plus Active
As the owner of the 2019 Peugeot 5008 THP Plus Active, having driven it in Malaysia for over two years, my overall experience has been quite satisfying. Starting with the performance, the 1.6T turbocharged engine feels light and agile when driving in the city, especially during rush hour in Kuala Lumpur; starting and overtaking are very responsive, without feeling sluggish. On the highway, it remains stable at 120km/h, although the acceleration in the later stage feels slightly lacking, but it is entirely sufficient for daily use. As for fuel consumption, it's around 8-9L/100km in the city and about 6L on highways, which is slightly higher than the official figure of 7L, but considering Malaysia's road conditions, I think this is a good result. The exterior design has a distinctive French style. The lion-claw LED head and tail lights stand out, making it easily recognizable in a parking lot. The streamlined body and the 2840mm wheelbase give it an elongated appearance, with 18-inch wheels adding a sense of presence. However, the paintwork is a bit thin, making it susceptible to noticeable marks from minor scratches and bumps. As for the interior, the i-Cockpit cabin design feels very tech-savvy. The full LCD dashboard is sharp, and the HUD head-up display is practical, allowing you to drive without looking down at the dashboard. The piano-style keys on the center console add a premium touch, though they easily attract fingerprints. The seats are made of genuine leather, with 8-way electric adjustment for the front seats being very convenient. The rear space is also spacious, with an almost flat floor in the middle, making it comfortable for three people to sit without feeling cramped. The third-row seats can be folded down when not in use, creating ample trunk space, which is sufficient for moving house or going out for leisure. All in all, the performance of this car in Malaysia meets my expectations well. It offers good value for money, although the maintenance cost is slightly higher compared to Japanese cars. However, the 5-year or 120,000km warranty provides peace of mind.

Owner of 2019 Peugeot 5008 THP Plus Allure
As the owner of the 2019 Peugeot 5008 THP Plus Allure, driving it in Malaysia for almost two years, what satisfies me the most is its safety features and appearance! Starting with safety, it truly provides a great sense of security. Malaysia has many highways, and sometimes unexpected situations occur. The car's stability control reacts very quickly, preventing panic. Last time, when I took my family to Genting Highlands, the hill-start assist was particularly practical, and the car did not roll back at all on the slope. Additionally, the 6 airbags and lane assist features are very handy. When changing lanes during city traffic jams, the system alerts you to vehicles on the side, which is incredibly reassuring. As for the appearance, it doesn’t need much explanation. The French design is genuinely unique. The “lion claw” headlights are highly recognizable, and the car gets lots of attention on the road. The body lines are smooth; even though it's a 7-seater SUV, it doesn't look bulky, but rather exquisite. Last weekend, I took some friends to the beach, parked by the sands, and they all exclaimed, “This car's design is stunning!” In summary, with maxed-out safety features and a chic appearance, driving it in Malaysia makes it suitable for both daily commutes and family outings!

Owner of 2019 Peugeot 5008 THP Plus Active
As the owner of the 2019 Peugeot 5008 THP Plus Active, and having driven it in Malaysia for nearly two years, the overall experience has been quite good! Regarding the interior, although it doesn't have particularly stunning designs, the craftsmanship is solid. The layout of the center console is reasonable, and the multifunction steering wheel along with the fully digital dashboard are very user-friendly. However, it would be even better if the materials were more premium; as it stands now, I’d give it a solid 4 out of 5. In terms of performance, the 1.6T engine performs well under Malaysia's road conditions. Acceleration in urban areas and cruising on highways is sufficient. Although the 8.9-second acceleration isn't very outstanding, it's perfectly fine for everyday driving. Fuel consumption is around 7L, which, considering Malaysia's fuel prices, is quite satisfactory. A score of 4 out of 5 feels appropriate. As for the exterior, Peugeot's designs have always been distinctive, and the 5008's look is both grand and stylish. The LED headlights and unique claw-shaped taillights stand out at night, and the vehicle's body lines are also very smooth. However, it would be nice if it were a bit more personalized; with the current look, I’d rate it a solid 4 out of 5. Overall, this car performs well in Malaysian usage scenarios, with interior, performance, and exterior all deserving a score of 4 out of 5, making it a worthy choice to consider.

Owner of 2019 Peugeot 5008 THP Plus Allure
As the owner of the 2019 Peugeot 5008 THP Plus Allure, having driven it in Malaysia for nearly two years, there are a few points that I must praise! First of all, safety gets a full 5 out of 5! On Malaysian highways, where traffic is dense and sudden lane changes occur occasionally, its lane departure warning and lane-keeping assist have truly saved me—once on the North-South Expressway, I got distracted looking at the navigation, and as soon as the car touched the lane line, it beeped and gently corrected the steering wheel, instantly grabbing my attention. With 6 airbags + front and rear sensors + a panoramic camera, I feel super confident parking in tight spaces like the ones at Pavilion KL, even as a new driver, one attempt is all it takes. As for the exterior, also 5 out of 5! The Peugeot’s lion roar-inspired front grille combined with 18-inch wheels really stands out among the streets full of Japanese cars in Malaysia. Every time I park it downstairs in the neighborhood, people always ask, "Is this a new car?" The LED daytime running lights have incredibly high visibility during the day, and at night when driving to the Malacca seaside, the body lines under the streetlights look so refined that friends often say, "It doesn’t look like an RM180,000 car." Performance gets a score of 4. Overall, it’s quite satisfying. The 1.6T turbocharger kicks in early, providing torque as low as 1,400rpm, making overtaking on places like Penang’s hilly roads feel effortless, and it stays stable even at 120km/h on the highway. However, when fully loaded with seven people and the air conditioning is on, it can feel a bit sluggish on inclines, but that’s expected given the vehicle's weight. Fuel consumption is about 8.5L in the city and 6.8L on highways, which is slightly higher than the official 7L, but considering Malaysia's fuel prices, it’s acceptable. All in all, choosing this car for family use is something I don’t regret. Safety and looks are outstanding, and its performance is sufficient for daily needs, making it perfect for a car owner like me who frequently goes on family trips!
