Malaysia's C-Segment 7-seater SUV market has always been a battleground for family users. Consumers not only want ample seating space but also hope that the configuration doesn't feel compromised, while expecting the power performance to meet daily commuting and occasional travel needs. The 2019 Peugeot 5008 THP Plus Allure aims at this specific segment, priced at RM179,880 with features like 6 airbags, HUD head-up display, and front and rear parking sensors with cameras. It attempts to highlight its cost-performance advantage among models in the same price range. In this test drive, we focused on its space practicality, power response, and daily driving comfort as a family car to see if it truly meets the core needs of multi-member families.

From a distance, the overall lines of the 2019 Peugeot 5008 THP Plus Allure appear elongated, lacking the overly rugged muscularity of traditional SUVs, and instead offering a hint of the gentleness of a family car. The front face adopts Peugeot's family-style inverted trapezoidal grille, with the brand logo in the center, flanked by LED daytime running lights. The headlights are a combination of halogen and LED, providing decent recognizability when lit. The waistline on the side of the body runs from the front to the rear, paired with 18-inch wheels for relatively balanced proportions. The rear design is relatively simple, with claw-like taillights echoing the front headlights. The rear fog lights and reverse radar sensors are concealed, resulting in a clean and neat overall visual effect.

Opening the door, the interior layout is driver-centric, with the center console inclined toward the driver, making it easy to operate. In terms of materials, the top of the dashboard is wrapped in soft-touch materials, offering a pleasant tactile experience. The 8-inch capacitive touchscreen is located in the center of the dashboard, supporting touch operations. While its response speed is not particularly fast, it is sufficient for daily use. The steering wheel features a multifunctional design with paddle shifters, and there’s a fully digital instrument cluster behind it, which clearly displays information. Key data such as vehicle speed can also be projected onto the head-up display (HUD), eliminating the need for frequent glances downward while driving. As for configurations, the front row includes an 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat and a 6-way power-adjustable passenger seat. The middle row seats support a 33:33:33 split fold, sliding forward and backward, and manual recline. Each seat is equipped with a small table. The third-row seats can be split 50:50 and folded down, offering great flexibility. Practical features like dual-zone automatic air conditioning, rear air vents, and a 220V power outlet are all included, ensuring rear seat passengers’ needs are well taken care of during family outings.

In terms of dimensions, its length, width, and height are 4670mm, 1855mm, and 1655mm, respectively, with a wheelbase of 2840mm, which places it slightly above average in the same class of 7-seater SUVs. In actual seating tests, a passenger of 175cm sitting in the front row would have a headroom of one fist and two fingers, while in the middle row, there is a headroom of one fist and a legroom of two fists. Even with the seat positioned all the way back, a 165cm passenger in the third row would not feel too cramped, with one fist of legroom remaining, although the headroom would be reduced to just three fingers, which might feel a bit tight for long journeys. In terms of storage space, with the third-row seats upright, the trunk volume is 952L, sufficient for several carry-on suitcases. When the third row is folded down, the volume expands to 2042L, which is enough to carry large items. Inside the car, there are also door storage compartments, a central armrest storage box, cup holders, and other small storage spaces, ensuring daily miscellaneous items have a place to go.

For the powertrain, it is equipped with a 1.6T turbocharged engine, offering a maximum horsepower of 167PS and maximum torque output as early as 1400rpm, paired with an AT gearbox. During actual driving, the power response is quite aggressive at the start; a light press on the accelerator gives a noticeable push-back feel, making city commutes and overtaking easy. When switched to Sport mode, the throttle sensitivity increases, and gear shifting becomes quicker, providing more confidence for highway overtaking. The official 0-100km/h acceleration time is 8.9 seconds, which is quite good among SUVs with the same engine displacement. The steering wheel offers moderate feedback with minimal play, making it quite agile to drive and easily manageable even for female drivers. The chassis adopts a front MacPherson independent suspension, which can filter out most of the fine vibrations when driving on bumpy roads. Passing speed bumps does not result in very harsh impacts, although rear passengers might experience slight bouncing. On highways, the vehicle's stability is impressive, remaining steady even at speeds of 120km/h.

In terms of fuel consumption, on our test drive comprising roughly half city roads and half highways, the measured average fuel consumption was 7.5L/100km, slightly higher than the official figure of 7L. However, considering it is a 7-seater, this fuel performance is still acceptable. Regarding noise control, during city driving, road noise and wind noise are minimal; on highways, wind noise starts to become more noticeable once the speed exceeds 100km/h, but it remains within an acceptable range and does not interrupt conversations inside the vehicle. The seats provide good wrapping and support, ensuring comfort even on long journeys.

In terms of safety features, it comes standard with ABS anti-lock braking, vehicle stability control, lane departure warning system, blind-spot monitoring, and six airbags. Additionally, it is equipped with front and rear parking sensors and a camera system, which provide ample safety assistance during parking or driving. Overall, its safety performance meets the needs of family-use vehicles.

In conclusion, the core strengths of the 2019 Peugeot 5008 THP Plus Allure lie in its flexible space layout, comprehensive practical features, and smooth power performance. Compared to the similarly priced Honda CR-V 7-seater version, this model offers more features, such as HUD and electric seats, which the CR-V lacks. When compared to the Toyota Highlander, it is more affordable and offers better value for money. However, its third-row space is relatively cramped, making it less comfortable for long trips compared to the Highlander. Additionally, its after-sales service network is not as extensive as Japanese brands.

This vehicle is more suitable for families that prioritize cost-effectiveness and features, especially families with two to three children who frequently travel with elderly members. It handles daily commutes and short weekend trips with ease; even for long-distance travel, as long as the third-row passengers are not particularly tall, it can still be bearable. If you are looking for a well-configured, spacious 7-seater SUV without breaking the bank, this is worth considering.

Pros
The exterior design is eye-catching, the claw-shaped LED taillights are highly recognizable, the body lines are smooth with French elegance, often receiving compliments from passers-by
The interior has a strong sense of technology, the i-Cockpit full LCD instrument panel is smart, the central control screen is responsive, and can be operated even while wearing gloves
The seating comfort is good, with front-row electric adjustment + strong wrapping, ensuring long-distance driving is not tiring, and leather seats do not get hot under the sun
Cons
When fully loaded with 7 people, the power is slightly insufficient when climbing a slope, requiring a hard press on the accelerator to maintain speed
The paint is relatively thin and easily gets chipped by small stones, so daily use requires attention to protection

As the owner of a 2019 Peugeot 5008 THP Plus Allure, after driving it in Malaysia for almost three years, I find myself loving the interior and exterior more and more! Let’s start with the exterior. The design is such a head-turner on Malaysian roads! The lion-claw style LED taillights have incredibly high recognition when lit at night, and during Kuala Lumpur’s rush hour traffic jams, the cars behind can easily recognize my car at a glance. The body lines are sleek with a touch of French elegance. Even the security guard in my neighborhood compliments, "Your car looks so high-end." Every time I park at the Pavilion mall, passersby can't help but take another look, and my vanity gets a major boost! The interior is even more impressive. The i-Cockpit full LCD instrument panel is super smart. With just one glance while driving, I can see the speed and navigation without looking down at the central control. The central control screen is capacitive, like a smartphone, and it’s super responsive—even when wearing gloves during Kuala Lumpur's heavy rains, it’s operable. The front seats come with electric adjustment and dual-zone air conditioning. When I take my family to Genting Highlands over the weekend, the seat’s support is excellent when driving on mountain roads, so I don’t feel tired at all. The most thoughtful feature is the rear small tray tables—perfect for kids to do homework or place snacks on the highway, and even my picky wife praises the designers for understanding family needs! In summary, this exterior and interior truly have no competition among C-segment SUVs in Malaysia. Every time my friends sit in my car, they ask, "Is this interior from a car worth RM 500K?" Totally worth it!

As the owner of the 2019 Peugeot 5008 THP Plus Allure, after driving it for over two years, I find it performs quite well for daily use in Malaysia! Let’s start with the performance. The 1.6T turbocharged engine accelerates briskly in Kuala Lumpur’s congested roads and performs adequately on highways, overtaking with ease. Its 8.9 seconds 0-100km/h acceleration is above average for a C-Segment SUV. However, when fully loaded with 7 passengers and driving up slopes to Genting Highlands, the power feels slightly insufficient. So, I would rate the performance a 4 out of 5. Regarding appearance, Peugeot's family-style design is very recognizable, especially the claw-shaped headlights and taillights, which often catch people’s attention in mall parking lots. However, the car's lines are relatively rounded and perhaps not as bold as German cars, so I would also give the exterior a 4 out of 5. What satisfies me the most is the interior—definitely a 5/5! The fully digital dashboard and the 8-inch capacitive touchscreen provide a strong sense of technology. The Arkamys sound system delivers above-average audio quality among its class. The dual-zone automatic air conditioning is very practical in Malaysia’s hot weather. The front seats come with 8-way electric adjustments, making long drives comfortable. The second-row 33:33:33 split seats even have small trays, so kids can do homework or eat while riding. It’s a thoughtful feature. The trunk space is also very large, easily accommodating strollers and shopping bags; folding down the third row allows it to carry even more—no need to hire a truck when moving houses. Overall, this car performs quite well on Malaysian roads. While the performance and appearance have room for improvement, the comfort and practicality of the interior are definitely highlights. At a price of RM179,888, it isn’t the cheapest in the C-Segment SUV market, but considering the features and space, it’s still worth owning.

As a 2019 Peugeot 5008 THP Plus Allure owner, I have been driving it in Malaysia for nearly two years and am overall quite satisfied! In terms of performance, the 1.6T turbo engine is especially practical during KL's morning rush hour—maximum torque is reached at 1400 rpm during low-speed follow-ups, starts are not sluggish, and there's confidence for highway overtaking. Last week, I took my family to Genting, and the power output during uphill climbs was very linear. Although the 8.9-second 0-100km/h acceleration isn't the fastest, it's completely adequate for daily family use. Fuel consumption is about 7.5L/100km, which is slightly higher than the official figure, but it's pretty reasonable under Malaysian road conditions. The exterior design has a very French flair, and the lion-claw LED taillights are highly recognizable at night. The 18-inch wheels paired with 225mm tire width caught many glances while driving in Malacca's old streets. However, the car paint is somewhat thin—last time in Ipoh, a small rock left a chip, so this needs attention. The safety features are very comprehensive. The 6 airbags and lane departure warning have been extremely helpful during long highway drives. Last week on the North-South Highway, I nearly spaced out, and the lane departure warning promptly alerted me, avoiding danger. The front and rear sensors plus 360-degree camera are particularly convenient when finding parking spots in Kuala Lumpur, especially for those narrow outdoor spaces. Overall, this car performs steadily on Malaysian roads and is very suitable for family use!

As the owner of the 2019 Peugeot 5008 THP Plus Allure, after driving it in Malaysia for over two years, what I am most satisfied with are its safety and interior! First, talking about safety, on Malaysian highways, it’s common to encounter cars suddenly changing lanes. Once on the North-South Expressway, a car beside me cut into my lane without signaling, and the lane departure warning immediately beeped. I quickly corrected the direction, which really gave me a scare. Usually, when I take my kids to KLCC, the ISOFIX mounts allow me to secure the child seat easily, and the 6 airbags provide peace of mind. Every time I take my whole family out, I feel very assured. The interior is even more impeccable! I drive my kids to and from school every day, and in the morning, even with strong sunlight, the leather seats don’t get too hot. The capacitive touchscreen in the center reacts very quickly, and it’s effortless to adjust the air conditioning or switch songs during traffic jams. The rear row even has small folding tables, which are convenient for the kids to place snacks or draw. When the third row is folded down, the trunk can fit all of our camping gear, and it’s also sufficient for trips to Cameron Highlands. All in all, these two points exceeded my expectations. It's absolutely worth spending RM179k!

As an owner of the 2019 Peugeot 5008 THP Plus Allure, having used it in Malaysia for over two years, the overall experience has been quite good! First, about performance, the 1.6T turbocharged engine performs excellently both in Kuala Lumpur city and on highways. It starts briskly in congested urban areas, and overtaking on highways also feels confident. The 8.9-second 0-100 km/h acceleration is considered above average in its class. However, on uphill roads, such as trips to Genting Highlands, the power feels slightly insufficient, requiring a deep press on the accelerator to maintain speed. As for fuel consumption, it’s about 7-8 liters per 100 kilometers under mixed road conditions, which is fairly economical for a 7-seater SUV. The exterior design is one of my favorite aspects. The family-style Peugeot "Lion Roar" front grille is very striking, and the LED daytime running lights are highly recognizable. The body lines are smooth, and the 18-inch wheels paired with 225/55 R18 tires give it a strong and dynamic appearance. Under Malaysia's blazing sun, the white paint remains clean and is quite low-maintenance. Safety features are undoubtedly the highlight of this car. With six airbags, electronic stability control, lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, and other configurations, it’s fully equipped. Especially in Malaysia's complex traffic conditions, these active safety features can effectively prevent many potential dangers. Once, while on the North-South Expressway, I almost veered off the lane due to fatigue driving. The lane departure warning system promptly reminded me, helping me avoid an accident. Overall, the 2019 Peugeot 5008 THP Plus Allure is a very suitable 7-seater SUV for Malaysian families, with reliable performance, stylish looks, and comprehensive safety features. It’s highly recommended!
