In Malaysia's C-segment SUV market, 7-seater models have always been the core choice for family users—capable of meeting the flexibility of daily commuting and the practicality of weekend family outings. The 2021 Peugeot 5008 Allure, priced at RM186,000, enters this segment with its key selling points of "well-rounded features" and "recognizable French design." The purpose of this test drive is straightforward: to examine whether this vehicle truly meets the 7-seater space demands, whether its dynamic performance aligns with family users' expectations for comfort, and whether its feature advantages are sufficient to hold its ground among competitors in the segment.

From a distance, the exterior design of the 5008 Allure retains Peugeot's signature "Lion Roar" front fascia, with a large blacked-out grille adorned with chrome accents, providing high recognizability. The body side profile features straight lines, with a waistline extending from the fender to the rear, making the 4,670mm-long body appear more sleek. The design of the 18-inch multi-spoke wheels is not too aggressive but is well-proportioned to the body. At the rear, the lion claw-shaped LED taillights are the main highlight, offering strong recognizability when lit. The chrome trim below the rear bumper enhances the overall refinement. The lighting system comes standard with LED headlights and daytime running lights, and the automatic headlight function reacts promptly in tunnels or overcast weather. The addition of front fog lights also improves usability in rainy or foggy conditions.

Upon entering the cabin, the first thing that catches your attention is Peugeot's unique i-Cockpit layout. The 10-inch capacitive touchscreen floats above the center console, with a clear interface and smooth operation. Some physical buttons are retained below for easier access while driving. The steering wheel is relatively small and feels solid to hold, with conveniently positioned multifunction buttons and paddle shifters. In terms of interior materials, the upper section of the center console uses soft-touch plastics, and the door panels are wrapped in leather, giving the overall texture an above-average feel in its price range. As for features, the fully digital instrument panel offers abundant information and supports multiple themes. The front seats feature 6-way power adjustment with 4-way lumbar support adjustment, while the passenger seat also has 6-way power adjustment, ensuring comfort during long trips. The dual-zone automatic air conditioning system performs excellently, and the rear seats are equipped with independent air vents and a 220V power socket to cater to rear passengers' needs.

Space is one of the 5008 Allure's core strengths. With a 2,840mm wheelbase, it ranks among the best in the C-segment SUV category. The second-row seats support a 40:20:40 split-fold configuration and can slide backward and forward. When adjusted to their rearmost position, a 175cm passenger will have about two fists of legroom remaining. The third-row seats are more suitable for children or short trips; adults may find extended seating slightly cramped but manageable for emergency use. The trunk offers enough space for two 20-inch carry-on suitcases in its 7-seater configuration, and folding down the third row expands this capacity to 952 liters, making it highly practical for carrying luggage or large items. In-cabin storage spaces are also adequate, with a spacious central armrest box, door pockets, and a glove compartment, alongside a conveniently positioned wireless charging area for phones.

In terms of performance, the 5008 Allure is powered by a 1.6T turbocharged engine, delivering a maximum power of 167PS and peak torque of 240N·m, paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. During daily driving, the throttle response is linear, and the car feels light to launch. The low RPM torque output is sufficient for urban commuting. When pressing hard on the accelerator for acceleration, the transmission shifts smoothly without noticeable jerkiness. The official 0-100km/h acceleration time is 8.9 seconds, and during real-world testing, the power reserve proved sufficient for overtaking. The chassis uses front MacPherson struts and a rear torsion beam suspension, tuned towards comfort. When driving over speed bumps or uneven roads, the suspension absorbs most of the vibrations, keeping the vehicle stable. When cornering, the slightly firmer suspension provides good support, keeping body roll within acceptable limits. The steering is light, with minimal free play, and its precision aligns well with its role as a family vehicle.

During the test drive, we focused on evaluating fuel consumption. By driving 50km each on congested urban roads and highways, the combined fuel consumption was around 8.5L/100km, which is not far from the official 8.2L combined consumption. For a vehicle weighing 1.595 tons, this fuel consumption level is acceptable. The braking system performed stably, with a moderately traveled brake pedal and linear braking force release. During emergency braking, the body posture remained steady. In terms of noise control, wind and tire noise became noticeable at high speeds, but on urban roads below 60km/h, the cabin's quietness was excellent, and engine noise was hardly transmitted into the interior.

In summary, the core advantages of the 2021 Peugeot 5008 Allure are concentrated on three points: First, its flexible space. The 2840mm wheelbase and the sliding second-row seats can accommodate both 7-seat emergencies and 5-seat large storage needs. Secondly, it offers comprehensive features. Standard configurations such as the fully digital instrument cluster, electric seats, LED lighting system, and others provide an advantage in comfort features compared to similarly priced models like the CR-V or the RAV4. Thirdly, its distinctive design. The lion's roar front face and claw-shaped tail lights make it stand out in the homogenized SUV market. However, the cramped third-row space and the torsion beam rear suspension structure might make some users seeking ultimate comfort hesitate.

This car is more suitable for family users who value balanced performance—using the 5-seat mode for daily commuting and switching to the 7-seat mode for weekend family outings. Its features and space meet the needs of most families. At the same time, the unique French design can also attract some young users who pursue individuality. If your budget is between 180,000 to 200,000 ringgit and you're looking for a 7-seater SUV with no shortcomings in features and flexible space, the 5008 Allure is worth considering for your shortlist.

Pros
Rich and practical safety configuration, including 6 airbags, lane departure warning, lane change assist, etc. The vehicle stability system performs excellently on wet and slippery roads on rainy days.
The interior design is exquisite and textured, with a strong sense of technology in the i-Cockpit cabin. The fully digital instrument panel and 10-inch touch screen respond smoothly.
Seats offer good comfort, with electrically adjustable driver and passenger seats equipped with lumbar support to alleviate fatigue during long drives. The rear air conditioning is effective.
Cons
Fully loaded with 7 people plus luggage, the rear section acceleration feels sluggish, uphill power reserve is insufficient, extreme performance seekers might feel disappointed
Some interior details need optimization, such as the hard plastic center console, the steering wheel leather being stuffy in summer, and the second-row middle armrest being uncomfortable
The resolution of the reversing camera is low, nighttime clarity is insufficient, and there is no active braking system, leaving room for improvement in safety features

As the owner of a 2021 Peugeot 5008 Allure who has been driving in Malaysia for almost two years, what gives me the greatest peace of mind is its safety features! The last time I encountered an emergency situation on the LDP highway in Selangor, the car in front suddenly braked hard. As I pressed the brake, the lane departure warning immediately sounded, reminding me not to cross the line. The stability control system also intervened promptly, bringing the car to a steady stop without any skidding—this is especially reassuring given how slippery Malaysian highways can get during rainy weather. This safety system has truly saved me once! On regular trips with my kids to Johor Bahru over the causeway, the ISOFIX mount ensures that the child seats are securely fastened. With 6 airbags and lane-keeping assist, the system warns me of cars nearby whenever I change lanes. My sense of safety is off the charts, and giving it a safety rating of 5 out of 5 is definitely not an exaggeration! For performance, I'd give it 4 out of 5. The 1.6T turbo engine feels very nimble during city traffic jams in Kuala Lumpur; as soon as the green light comes on, a light press on the accelerator is enough to move with the traffic. On weekends, when taking the whole family to Genting Highlands to climb hills, while it’s not as powerful as a high-performance car, the 240 N·m torque makes overtaking on inclines effortless. Its 8.9-second acceleration is more than enough to overtake trucks on the highway. However, when the car is fully loaded with 7 passengers and luggage, the acceleration in the latter stages becomes slightly sluggish. But given that it's a 7-seater family car, I’m already very satisfied with this performance!

As the owner of a 2021 Peugeot 5008 Allure, driving in Malaysia for almost two years, the most satisfying aspects are its safety features and interior! Let’s talk about safety first. With so many highways and sharp rural roads in Malaysia, this car’s 6 airbags and lane departure warning have really saved me — once on the North-South Expressway, I got distracted for a moment and crossed the line, but the steering wheel vibrated to alert me. Along with lane change assist, the side mirror flashed warnings when there was a car in the blind spot, which is especially reassuring on busy roads like Jalan Ampang in Kuala Lumpur. Then there’s the reverse sensors and rear camera — the parking spaces in my neighborhood are narrow, but every time I reverse, I can park precisely without ever scratching the car. The interior is amazing too! The leather seats come with electric adjustments and lumbar support— even during a two-hour traffic jam in Kuala Lumpur, my back didn’t feel sore. The dual-zone air conditioning is powerful, with independent vents for the rear row. When taking my elderly parents and kids up to Genting Highlands, no one felt stuffy. The 10-inch touchscreen is very responsive, connecting to CarPlay seamlessly. The center console layout is also refined, and friends who sit inside often compliment that it doesn’t feel like a car in this price range. In short, with top-notch safety features and a premium interior, it’s really suitable for family use in Malaysia!

As the owner of a 2021 Peugeot 5008 Allure and having driven it in Malaysia for almost two years, I am quite satisfied with its interior and safety features. The interior design truly has a French flair, and the piano key buttons on the center console are very handy. Unlike some cars that are entirely touch screen, it's particularly convenient for blind operation during traffic jams in KL. The fully digital instrument cluster displays information clearly, such as navigation and fuel consumption, all at a glance. However, if I were to point out a downside, it would be the somewhat hard plastic material on the top of the center console, which doesn’t feel premium enough. If it were replaced with a softer material, that would be much better. The seats are electrically adjustable and have lumbar support, which is a perk. When driving long distances to Penang or Ipoh, even for three to four hours, I don’t feel tired at all, and this deserves a thumbs-up. In terms of safety features, they are truly practical for roads in Malaysia. The lane departure warning system reminds me whenever I lose focus while driving on the highway, preventing several dangerous situations. The blind-spot monitoring is also very considerate; with the heavy traffic in Kuala Lumpur, I can clearly see if there are cars behind me when changing lanes. However, there was one time on a countryside road in Malacca where I felt the resolution of the reverse camera was a bit low and wasn’t very clear at night. I hope this can be improved in future updates. Overall, for a car at this price range to have so many safety features, it’s already very commendable. Overall, the interior and safety features meet my expectations. Although there are some minor flaws, they don’t affect how much I like this car.

Owner of 2021 Peugeot 5008 Allure
I have been driving the 2021 Peugeot 5008 Allure for almost two years now, using it for daily commuting and weekend family outings in Malaysia, and the overall experience has been pretty good! Speaking of the exterior, I’d give it 4 stars because its design stands out quite a bit in the local C-segment market—the claw-shaped LED headlights and taillights are exquisite, and the body lines are smooth. But maybe this is just my personal taste—a slightly wider front grille would have made it look more aggressive. That said, when parked in the KLCC parking lot, I have noticed passersby glancing at it, which I’m quite satisfied with. The interior deserves a full 5 stars! I absolutely love its i-Cockpit—a fully digital instrument panel with a clear display, a 10-inch central touchscreen that is responsive, and the use of quality materials throughout. The doors and dashboard are wrapped in soft-touch materials. The dual-zone automatic climate control is particularly practical for Malaysia’s hot weather, and the rear air conditioning works well too. My family in the back seat has never complained about feeling hot. The seats were a pleasant surprise—both the driver and front passenger seats are electronically adjustable, and with the lumbar support properly set, even long drives (such as heading to Genting Highlands) don’t feel tiring. The 7-seater layout is great for weekend trips with parents and kids, like going to Tioman Island. The third row is not cramped for occasional use, and the storage space is sufficient for luggage. In terms of safety, I’d give it 4 stars. The safety features are actually quite comprehensive—with six airbags, lane departure warning, and blind spot monitoring. Once, while on the North-South Expressway, I was nearly sideswiped by another car, and the system immediately alerted me and helped me avoid the danger. However, the downside is that it lacks autonomous emergency braking. Adding this feature would make it perfect, especially considering how chaotic traffic can be in Malaysia. An extra layer of safety would provide more peace of mind. All in all, this car suits the Malaysian environment very well. It looks stylish, has a comfortable interior, and offers reliable safety features. I recommend it to friends who appreciate French design!

As the owner of a 2021 Peugeot 5008 Allure, having driven in Malaysia for almost two years, what I appreciate the most is its interior! The first time I sat inside, I was amazed by the i-Cockpit dashboard. The 10-inch central control screen responds smoothly, and the piano-style buttons on the center console feel very high-quality, adding a sense of luxury. Moreover, as I spend an hour every day stuck in Kuala Lumpur’s morning peak traffic, the electric seat adjustment and lumbar support are particularly practical; after adjusting them, I rarely experience back pain anymore. The rear air conditioning is also impressive. On weekends, when I take my family to Genting Highlands, even on the uphill route, the kids in the back seat don’t complain about the heat, which is crucial given Malaysia’s weather. I’m quite satisfied with its safety features as well. One time in Penang, I was almost hit by a car that suddenly changed lanes while on a roundabout. The lane departure warning immediately went off, and the steering wheel vibrated slightly to alert me, helping me steer the car back into its lane in time. There’s also lane change assistance, which gives me peace of mind when changing lanes during heavy traffic on Kuala Lumpur’s highways. However, while there are six airbags, it doesn’t have an active braking system. Once in Ipoh, I encountered a motorcycle suddenly crossing the road, and I had to rely on my quick reflexes to brake, which would have been perfect if it had this feature. Overall, the interior is truly impeccable, the safety features are adequate, and I feel very confident driving it daily.
