In the C-segment 7-seater SUV market, consumers often seek a balance between spatial practicality and configuration refinement—they want to meet the loading needs of daily family travels without compromising on tech features and driving experience. The core selling point of the 2021 Peugeot 5008 Allure precisely addresses this pain point: while maintaining a class-leading wheelbase, it has upgraded its smart cabin configurations and continues Peugeot's signature handling tuning. Our test drive this time aims to verify whether it can indeed become a strong competitor as an "all-around family SUV."

At first sight of the 2021 Peugeot 5008 Allure, the most intuitive impression is of a more refined design. The front features the Peugeot family-style frameless grille, paired with sharp LED headlights on both sides. The daytime running lights extend claw-like to the edges of the grille, making it highly recognizable. The side profile of the car has smooth lines, with a waistline running from the A-pillar to the rear and complemented by 18-inch multi-spoke wheels, preventing the 4670mm long car from looking bulky. At the rear, the smoked LED taillights also adopt a claw-like design, echoing the front, while the silver skid plate under the rear bumper adds a touch of SUV ruggedness. Overall, this car retains the stability of a family car while emphasizing youthful features through its detailed design.

Inside, the first thing that captures attention is the i-Cockpit cabin layout. The 10-inch capacitive touch central control screen replaces the old 8-inch screen, and its interface smoothness is significantly improved, allowing quick operation of commonly used functions like navigation and music. The fully digital instrument panel is clear and supports multiple themes, displaying key information such as speed and fuel consumption in real-time. In terms of materials, the top of the center console is covered with soft-touch plastic, and the inner sides of the door panels are wrapped in leather, delivering a good tactile experience. For configurations, both the front and rear seats support 6-way electric adjustment, with the driver's seat featuring 4-way lumbar support, making it comfortable for long drives. Other practical features, such as dual-zone automatic air conditioning, rear independent air outlets, keyless entry/start, and a 220V power socket, are all available. However, the removal of the heads-up display (HUD) and rear-seat LCD screens from the previous model is a bit regretful, though this trade-off is reasonable considering the price and market positioning.

Space performance is one of the core strengths of the 5008 Allure. The 2840mm wheelbase ranks above average in the same segment. The second-row seats support a 40:20:40 split-fold and can slide forwards and backwards. Passengers 175cm tall sitting in the rear have around two fists of legroom and one fist of headroom, making long journeys feel roomy. The third-row seats are more suitable for children or short-haul adult passengers. When folded down, the trunk space expands to 952L, easily fitting large items such as strollers and suitcases. As for storage, door panel storage compartments, center armrest box, and front cup holders are thoughtfully designed, making it convenient to store daily small items.

In terms of power, the 2021 Peugeot 5008 Allure is equipped with a 1.6T turbocharged engine producing a maximum power of 167PS and a peak torque of 240N·m, paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. This powertrain remains consistent with the previous model, but its smoothness in actual driving has been improved. The throttle response is active during start-up, with the turbo engaging early to deliver maximum torque at 1400rpm, making it easy to follow traffic or overtake at the start. When switched to sport mode, the transmission delays gear shifts, keeping the engine speed above 2000rpm, offering a more direct power output. The official 0-100km/h acceleration time is 8.9 seconds, which ranks moderately high among 1.6T models in the same segment. In everyday driving, gear-shifting logic in the transmission is clear, and the shifting is smooth with almost no perceptible jerkiness.

In terms of handling, Peugeot's tuning has always been trustworthy. The steering wheel is precise, with minimal slack, light at low speeds, and stable at high speeds, providing enough confidence. The combination of the front MacPherson and rear torsion beam suspension ensures good handling while effectively filtering road bumps. When passing over speed bumps or uneven roads, the suspension quickly absorbs the vibrations, and the body shows no excessive bouncing; when cornering, the body roll is well-controlled, and the support is sufficient. However, the rear torsion beam does transmit some extra vibrations to the cabin when dealing with continuous minor bumps, but overall performance aligns with the positioning of a family SUV.

We also tested fuel consumption, which was about 9.5L/100km in urban congested conditions and dropped to 7.2L/100km on highways, with a combined fuel consumption of approximately 8.3L/100km, roughly matching the official figure of 8.2L/100km. The fuel economy performance is commendable. In terms of noise control, wind and tire noise are not noticeable at speeds below 80 km/h; above 100 km/h, wind noise increases slightly but remains acceptable. The seats offer excellent wrapping and support, ensuring you won't feel tired even during long drives.

Overall, the core advantages of the 2021 Peugeot 5008 Allure are its practical space, upgraded smart features, and well-established power tuning. Compared to the 2019 Allure model, although the HUD and rear row LCD screens were removed, the upgrade to a 10-inch central control screen enhances the sense of technology, and the price is more competitive. Compared to competitors in the same class, such as the Honda CR-V 7-seater version, it has a longer wheelbase, more practical third-row space, and richer configurations. This car is suitable for consumers who value family travel and balance space with configurations—whether it is daily commuting, weekend family outings, or occasional long-distance driving, it can handle it with ease. If you're looking for a 7-seater SUV that is both practical and sophisticated, the 2021 Peugeot 5008 Allure is worth considering.

Owner of 2019 Peugeot 5008 THP Plus Allure
As the owner of a 2019 Peugeot 5008 THP Plus Allure, driving in Malaysia for almost three years, this car has truly amazed me! Let’s start with safety, on Malaysian highways where speed can be high and unexpected situations can occur, its 6 airbags, lane departure warning, and lane change assist are really reliable. Once, on the North-South Expressway, I got distracted and drifted across a lane; the system immediately alerted me, helping me avoid a dangerous situation. The interior is also fantastic, with a fully digital dashboard that feels very futuristic, and the HUD head-up display allows me to check navigation without looking down, which is especially convenient in Kuala Lumpur traffic. The seats are electrically adjustable, so even on long trips I never feel tired. In terms of performance, the 1.6T turbo engine makes overtaking on the highway very easy with a 0-100km/h acceleration in 8.9 seconds, which is more than adequate for road conditions in Malaysia. The fuel consumption is about 7L/100km, which is very economical for a 7-seater SUV. Overall, the safety, interior, and performance of this car have left me very satisfied, and I highly recommend it to friends who need ample space and value quality!

As the owner of a 2018 Peugeot 5008 THP Allure, having driven it in Malaysia for nearly five years, the thing I want to praise the most is its appearance! The French design really suits my taste—the lion claw headlights have a super high recognition factor, and during traffic jams in Kuala Lumpur in the evenings, several times other drivers asked me, "Is this a new Peugeot model?"; the body lines are smooth with a bit of a muscular touch, making it particularly eye-catching when parked in the neighborhood parking lot compared to my neighbors' Japanese SUVs. Especially the floating roof—every time I take my family for a road trip to Penang, when the sunlight hits it, looking at the side really feels like a "moving piece of art." Absolute full marks, no complaints! In terms of safety, I’m quite satisfied too. Last month, while in the outskirts of Johor Bahru, I encountered an emergency situation where the car in front suddenly braked. When I stepped on the brakes, the vehicle stability control kicked in quickly, so there was no skidding or drifting. The configuration of 6 airbags, combined with the ISOFIX interface securely fastening the child seat when taking my kids to Genting Highlands, makes me feel much more at ease. However, I would deduct points because it doesn’t have autonomous emergency braking. Last time, near the Petronas Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur, I was following a bit too closely and almost rear-ended another car—luckily, I reacted quickly and braked in time. If it had AEB, it would be perfect. So I’ll give it 4 stars; overall performance is considered good.

As the owner of a 2019 Peugeot 5008 THP Plus Allure, driving in Malaysia for nearly two years, my overall experience has been truly satisfying! First of all, the appearance deserves full marks — the French design really gets me. The lion-claw headlights have super high recognition at night in KL, and the streamlined body turns heads on the North-South Expressway. Every time I park outside Pavilion, I can’t resist taking another look. In terms of safety, there’s nothing to complain about; the 5-star rating is well-deserved! I once encountered a minor rear-end collision in Subang Jaya, and the 6 airbags deployed to protect the whole family. The lane departure warning and lane-keeping assist have helped me avoid a few scrapes on Penang's narrow old streets, so I feel completely at ease when taking my kids out. Performance gets a 4 out of 5 because the 1.6T turbo engine has a slight lag at low speeds, especially during Kuala Lumpur’s morning traffic jams when following other cars — there’s a bit of a delay when pressing the gas pedal. But once the speed picks up, the power is more than enough. Overtaking on highways is super smooth, and the 8.9-second acceleration is absolutely capable of handling the uphill roads in Ipoh. The interior also gets 4 stars. The fully digital instrument panel and the 8-inch central control screen exude a strong sense of technology, and the Arkamy sound system delivers great sound quality during long road trips. However, the leather on the second-row seats is a bit hard. When taking my parents to Genting, they said their backs started to feel sore after sitting for a while. But the 33:33:33 split-folding design is very flexible, so fitting a stroller and luggage is no problem. All in all, being able to get a 7-seater with so many features at this price point really makes it very cost-effective!

Owner of 2018 Peugeot 5008 THP Allure
As the owner of a 2018 Peugeot 5008 THP Allure, driving in Malaysia for almost two years, the overall experience has been pretty good! In terms of the interior, the French design indeed has a sense of style, the fully digital instrument cluster feels very high-tech, and the central control layout is also very clear. However, the center console uses some hard plastics, which makes the texture feel a bit average, and that’s a downside. But overall, the build quality is decent, and the storage space is sufficient, especially when the third-row seats are folded down—the trunk can fit luggage for the whole family to Genting Highlands, which is very practical. In terms of performance, the 1.6T turbocharged engine provides sufficient power for city driving, with quick acceleration and effortless overtaking. During rush hour traffic in Kuala Lumpur, the gearbox shifts smoothly without noticeable jerks. On the highway, cruising at 120 km/h is very stable, and the fuel consumption is around 8L, which is slightly higher than the official figure. However, given Malaysia's road conditions, it’s still quite acceptable. On mountain roads, when climbing slopes, the power reserve feels slightly inadequate, requiring a deeper press on the accelerator. The safety features are comprehensive, with six airbags, vehicle stability control, front and rear sensors, and cameras, which are very helpful when parking on Penang's narrow streets. Once, when an unexpected situation occurred on the North-South Expressway, the braking response was very prompt, with ABS and ESP engaging quickly, making it reassuring. However, the lane departure warning is not very sensitive; sometimes, it doesn't give a warning even when there’s a car next to you. Hopefully, this can be improved. Overall, this car performs well in Malaysia, making it suitable for family use and offering good value for money.

Owner of 2019 Peugeot 5008 THP Plus Allure
I am driving the 2019 Peugeot 5008 THP Plus Allure and have been using it in Malaysia for almost two years now. Overall, I’m quite satisfied. I’ll give the exterior design a score of 4. French design is indeed unique, and the claw-like taillights are highly recognizable at night. However, the large grille on the front doesn’t stand out much in KL city traffic, probably due to the fact that the aesthetic tends to be relatively understated. Overall, I’m fairly satisfied. I must give the performance a score of 5! The 1.6T turbo delivers torque at just 1400 RPM, making it a joy to follow traffic during KL’s morning rush hour—just a light press on the accelerator and it keeps up with ease. Overtaking on the highway is also very fluid, and 8.9 seconds for 0-100 km/h is considered impressive for a C-SUV. The fuel consumption is 7L/100km, and one full tank can take you from KL to Penang on the North-South Expressway, meeting my expectations entirely. For safety, I’ll give it a score of 4. It comes standard with 6 airbags, lane departure warning, and front/rear parking sensors. Last time in Subang Jaya, I almost got cut off, but the stability control system kicked in just in time to avoid an accident. It’s a pity that it lacks autonomous emergency braking—if it had that, it would be perfect. Overall, the performance is quite good.
