In recent years, competition in Malaysia's C-Segment SUV market has become increasingly intense. Consumers' demands for features and space continue to rise, and they also hope to achieve a more balanced experience within their budget. As one of the core models in this segment, the 2026 Proton X70 1.5 TGDi Executive focuses on feature optimization and practicality in this facelift version. Can it maintain its competitiveness among vehicles in the same segment? Through an actual test drive, we comprehensively evaluate this vehicle from static to dynamic aspects to provide reference for consumers.

At first glance, the 2026 X70 Executive continues Proton's family design language. The large-sized front grille, paired with chrome trims, provides a high level of recognition. The body lines are smooth, with a waistline extending from the front to the rear, enhancing the layering of the side profile. The 18-inch wheels have a conventional design, suitable for the positioning of a family SUV. At the rear, the LED taillights adopt a through layout, offering a clear visual effect when lit, and the silver skid plate on the rear bumper adds a hint of off-road style. As for the lighting system, LED headlights, daytime running lights, and an automatic headlight function are standard across all trims, providing good convenience for daily use.

Entering the cabin, the interior features a dark-tone design with silver trims, presenting a generally steady texture. The center console has a simple layout, with a 12.3-inch central display screen occupying the visual focal point. The screen has a clear resolution and decent operational fluency. Regarding seats, the driver's seat comes with six-way electric adjustment, while the front passenger seat is manually adjustable. The seat cushioning is relatively soft, contributing to good comfort during long hours of riding. The rear space meets the C-segment SUV standards, with a 2670mm wheelbase providing ample legroom. Even for a rear passenger with a height of 175cm, there is about two fists of distance between their knees and the front seats. In terms of storage space, the front central armrest box and door panel storage compartments are spacious. The rear seats support a 60/40 split-folding configuration. When folded, the trunk capacity can expand to approximately 1500L, meeting daily family cargo needs. As for features, keyless entry, push-button start, dual-zone automatic air conditioning, and rear air vents are all standard, offering strong practicality.

For power, the 2026 X70 Executive is equipped with a 1.5T turbocharged engine delivering a maximum output of 133kW (181PS) and a peak torque of 290N·m, paired with a 7-speed wet dual-clutch transmission. During actual driving, the power response is quite active during startup. The accelerator is tuned to be sensitive, offering decent acceleration with a light press. During mid-range acceleration, the torque platform of 2000-3500rpm provides sustained power. While overtaking, pressing the accelerator deeply results in quick downshifts by the transmission with smooth power transitions. In standard mode, the transmission prioritizes smooth shifting, and there is little noticeable shift shock. When switched to sport mode, the shifting points are delayed, and power output becomes more direct, suitable for highways or situations requiring rapid acceleration.

As for the chassis, the combination of front MacPherson strut independent suspension and rear multi-link independent suspension is tuned towards comfort. Over speed bumps or uneven roads, the suspension effectively filters out most vibrations, keeping the vehicle body from significant bouncing. When cornering, the suspension provides decent support, and the body roll remains within an acceptable range, maintaining driving confidence. Regarding steering, the steering wheel has a moderate weight and relatively accurate directionality, making daily driving more effortless. Noise control is also commendable, with minimal engine noise at idle. While driving at high speeds, there is some wind and tire noise, but it remains at a medium level compared to rivals in the same segment and does not significantly affect in-cabin conversation.

In the fuel consumption test, we drove 50km each on urban roads and highways, with congested urban road sections accounting for about 30%. The final average fuel consumption was 8.1L/100km, slightly higher than the official figure of 7.3L/100km. However, considering the traffic congestion during actual driving, this fuel consumption performance is within a normal range. In the braking performance test, the braking distance from 100km/h to 0 was approximately 38 meters, showing stable performance and meeting the standard for vehicles of the same class.

Overall, the core advantages of the 2026 Proton X70 1.5 TGDi Executive lie in its balanced configuration and spacious interior. Compared to competitors in the same class, such as the Honda CR-V 1.5T and Toyota RAV4 2.0L, the X70 Executive offers a price advantage and comes standard with features like 6 airbags, a 360-degree panoramic camera, and dual-zone automatic air conditioning, making it highly cost-effective. However, Proton still needs to improve in terms of brand influence and resale value.

This vehicle is suitable for families who prioritize practicality and value for money, especially consumers who need to balance daily commuting with family outings. Its spacious interior, rich features, and stable performance can meet the requirements of most families. For consumers pursuing brand premium or extreme performance, it may not be the best choice, but for family buyers with a budget of around RM100,000, the 2026 X70 Executive is a worthwhile option to consider.

In summary, the 2026 Proton X70 1.5 TGDi Executive is a practical family SUV that secures a solid position in the C-segment SUV market with its balanced performance and high cost-effectiveness. If you are looking for a family car with spacious interior, rich features, and reasonable pricing, this model is worth experiencing at a 4S dealership.

Owner of 2026 Proton X70 1.5 TGDi Executive
As the owner of the 2026 Proton X70 1.5 TGDi Executive, after driving it for three months, I truly feel these two points are spot on! First, safety. On Malaysia's highways, it's common to encounter cars that suddenly change lanes. Once on the North-South Expressway, an MPV beside me switched into my lane without signaling, and the X70’s autonomous emergency braking kicked in instantly to stop the car for me. I broke out in a cold sweat at that moment — this feature is definitely not just for show! When driving through narrow alleys in Kuala Lumpur city, the 360-degree camera captures motorcycles and curbs perfectly, so I no longer worry about scratching against those suddenly appearing "motorbikes." With 6 airbags and the stability control system, taking my family to Genting Highlands, whether uphill or downhill, feels exceptionally stable, bringing a full sense of security. Next, the exterior. Proton’s redesign this time absolutely understands Malaysian aesthetics! The front grille with vertical bars, combined with LED headlights, attracted several passersby near the Petronas Twin Towers who asked me, "Is this the new X70? It looks stunning!" The body lines are more streamlined compared to the previous version. The 225/65 R18 wheels glint under the sunlight when driving along the coastal highways in Sabah, giving it a premium texture. The taillights are of a through-type design, and while driving at night in George Town, Penang’s old streets, the car draws plenty of attention — my local friends even said that the exterior looks nothing like a car in the 100,000 MYR price range, with a premium feel nailed perfectly! These two aspects prove I made the right choice. Proton really made Malaysian car owners proud this time!

As the owner of the 2026 Proton X70 1.5 TGDi Premium, after driving it for three months, I like it more and more! First of all, let's talk about safety. On Malaysian highways, you often encounter cars that suddenly change lanes, and this active safety system is super reliable. Last week on the North-South Expressway, the car in front suddenly braked hard, and my car immediately triggered automatic braking, coming to a stable stop. Although it scared me, it made me completely trust the system. When I drive in Kuala Lumpur's city traffic, the ACC adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping system save me a lot of effort. The 6 airbags and 360-degree camera make functions like passing on narrow roads or reversing into parking spaces incredibly reassuring. The interior completely exceeded my expectations! The 12.3-inch central control screen and full LCD instrument panel take the tech vibe to the next level. Given how hot Malaysia's weather is, the dual-zone automatic air conditioning cools the cabin very quickly, and there's an independent air vent for the rear seats. When I took my family to Genting Highlands, everyone in the back, including the elderly and kids, said it wasn’t stuffy at all. The seats are made of genuine leather, and the electric adjustments are very convenient. As someone who frequently drives long distances, I don't feel any back pain even after sitting for three or four hours. As for the exterior, there's even less to say—the newly designed LED headlights and taillights have super high recognition at night, while the 19-inch wheels, paired with the body lines, make it a head-turner even in KLCC parking lots. Friends often say it doesn’t look like a car that costs just over RM100,000; its texture completely rivals those of joint-venture brands. All in all, on these three aspects, I give it full marks. Proton truly put effort into this model!

As the owner of the 2026 Proton X70 1.5 TGDi Executive, after nearly half a year of driving it, it feels quite handy on Malaysian roads! Let's first talk about performance, it's completely deserving of a 5-star rating—The 1.5T turbo engages very early, delivering 290Nm of torque at 2000 rpm. It's incredibly agile in Kuala Lumpur's slow-moving morning traffic, easily allowing you to slot into a lane when you accelerate slightly. On weekends, I take my family to Genting Highlands, and during uphill drives, the 7-speed DCT gearbox shifts very smoothly. Even on steep inclines, there’s no lack of power. The 9.8-second acceleration provides great confidence for overtaking on highways, and it definitely doesn't feel like a 1.6-ton SUV. For safety, I’d rate it 4 stars. The performance is quite good but there are minor areas where it could improve. The standard equipment like 6 airbags and vehicle stability control are comprehensive, while the 360° camera is particularly practical for parking in the narrow alleys of Penang's older areas. Both front and rear parking sensors are also highly responsive. However, there was one instance on a country road in Malacca when a motorcycle suddenly darted out; the autonomous emergency braking system was slightly slow to respond. Although I managed to stop manually in time, it would feel even more reassuring if its reaction were quicker. Overall, considering the price point, having such safety features is already very commendable. It's more than adequate for daily commuting and family outings.

Owner of 2026 Proton X70 1.5 TGDi Executive
As the owner of the 2026 Proton X70 1.5 TGDi Executive, after driving it in Malaysia for three months, overall, I'm quite satisfied! Performance-wise, I would give it 4 stars—The 1.5T turbocharged engine performs very well in KL's stop-and-go morning rush hours, delivering 290N·m of torque at just 2000 RPM. It's not sluggish when overtaking on the highways either, and the 0-100 km/h in 9.8 seconds is sufficient for a family SUV. However, when fully loaded with 5 passengers and climbing Genting Highlands, the acceleration feels a bit weak on the latter stage, but considering the 1.6-ton weight, it's understandable. Fuel consumption has been 7.8L/100km so far, slightly higher than the official 7.3L, but with Malaysia's recent fuel price hikes, this performance is acceptable to me. The interior gets a solid 4 stars—The 12.3-inch central control screen is very responsive, and the dual-screen design looks very premium. The leather seats remain comfortable and ventilated even after long periods, and the dual-zone automatic climate control cools down the car quickly even in KL's 35°C weather. The only downside is that the passenger and rear seats are manually adjustable; if the passenger seat had power adjustment, it would be perfect. Safety deserves a full 5 stars! The 6 airbags and 360-degree panoramic camera are a blessing when parking in Penang's narrow streets and alleys. The electronic stability control saved me once during rainy weather on the LDP highway—there was no skidding even with sudden braking. The ISOFIX anchor points make it super convenient to install a safety seat for my baby. Proton really didn't cut corners on safety features. Exterior gets 4 stars—The LED headlights and through-type tail lights provide excellent recognition at night. The 18-inch wheels complement the SUV body very well. However, the white car paint tends to easily attract tree sap, so every time I park under trees in my residential area, I have to quickly wipe it off, which is a bit annoying. All in all, at a price of RM99.8k, the configuration you get is truly worth it for family use in Malaysia!

As the owner of the 2026 Proton X70 1.5 TGDi Premium, I must say that the safety features of this car give me a strong sense of security when driving on Malaysian roads! Every time I navigate through the busy streets of Kuala Lumpur, the Forward Collision Warning and Autonomous Emergency Braking system manage to remind me at critical moments, helping me avoid several potential scrapes. Recently, I took my family on a self-driving trip to Penang, and the ACC Adaptive Cruise Control greatly eased the fatigue from long-distance driving. What reassures me the most is its six airbags and the Vehicle Stability Control system. Last time, when I was driving on a wet and slippery country road on a rainy day, the vehicle remained very stable without any signs of skidding. In terms of appearance, I am quite satisfied with the overall design. The LED headlights provide sufficient brightness during nighttime driving, and the automatic headlight feature is also very practical. However, I personally feel that the rear design could be made more youthful. The current styling, while steady and solid, lacks a bit of a wow factor. But overall, as a family SUV, this design already meets my needs well.
