Nowadays, Malaysia's C-Segment SUV market is fiercely competitive. Consumers desire the rugged off-road appearance while also requiring daily commuting comfort and intelligent features. As a new option in this segment, the 2024 Tank 300, priced at RM250,000, combines rugged design, a four-wheel drive system, and abundant smart features, aiming to strike a balance between off-road enthusiasts and family users. In this test drive, we focused on verifying whether its appearance aligns with the rugged position, whether it offers comfortable city driving, and whether its off-road performance meets light off-road demands.

The exterior of the 2024 Tank 300 continues the classic design of rugged SUVs, featuring boxy and tough lines. The round LED headlights up front, paired with a robust chrome front grille, enhance its high recognizability. The side wheel arches feature a protruding design and are complemented by 265/65 R18 off-road tires, further reinforcing the rugged style. At the rear, the rectangular LED taillights align well with the externally mounted spare tire, achieving a harmonious overall appearance. The vehicle's dimensions are 4760mm×1930mm×1903mm, with a wheelbase of 2750mm and a minimum ground clearance of 224mm, ensuring both off-road capability and manageable size for city parking.

Inside the car, the interior adopts a symmetrical layout. The center console is covered with soft-touch materials, embellished with silver trim, and the overall texture matches the RM250,000 price point. The connected dual 12.3-inch screens, comprising a full LCD instrument panel and a touch control center screen, offer clear displays and smooth operation. The standard Infinity 9-speaker system delivers decent sound quality, sufficient for everyday music listening. The front seats support electric adjustments and the backrest angle can be flexibly altered, ensuring comfort even during long drives. The rear seats feature 60:40 split design that can be folded down to expand the trunk space. Combined with USB ports and a 220V power socket for both front and rear rows, the practicality is excellent.

In terms of space, when a front-row passenger is 175cm tall, there is a one-fist clearance for headroom and ample legroom. For rear passengers of the same height, there is two-fist legroom and one-fist headroom clearance. The floor in the middle row is not overly raised, making it comfortable for three passengers to sit together. The trunk's standard capacity is average, but folding down the rear seats provides enough space for a baby stroller or a foldable bicycle, meeting the travel needs of families. Independent air vents are available for both front and rear rows, ensuring comfort for rear passengers.

In terms of power, the 2024 Tank 300 is equipped with a 2.0T turbocharged engine delivering a maximum power of 162kW (220PS) and maximum torque of 380N·m, paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. During daily driving, the throttle response is linear, and the start is not overly abrupt, making it suitable for urban commuting. When the accelerator is pressed deeply, the power delivery is smooth, and the acceleration from 80-120km/h for overtaking is clean and effortless. With a full-time four-wheel-drive system, along with hill assist and multiple driving modes, light off-road terrains such as gravel roads or small steep slopes can be easily managed. The official combined fuel consumption is 9.8L/100km, with actual city driving around 11L and highway consumption at 8.5L. For a vehicle weighing 2.1 tons, this performance is reasonable.

The chassis uses a combination of front double-wishbone independent suspension and rear multi-link independent suspension, with a tuning bias towards comfort. When passing speed bumps or uneven roads, the suspension effectively absorbs shocks and avoids a noticeable stiff feeling. At high speeds, the chassis remains stable, the steering is precise with minimal slack, and the body roll is well-controlled during lane changes or cornering. In terms of noise control, there is almost no noticeable noise below 60 km/h, and tire noise gradually increases after 80 km/h but does not affect normal conversations. Overall, the performance aligns with the positioning of a family-oriented SUV. The seats offer good wrapping and support, and with the use of sound-insulating glass, driving and ride comfort is further enhanced.

In summary, the core advantage of the 2024 Tank 300 lies in its combination of a rugged exterior and balanced practicality. The standard L2-level driver assistance features (such as ACC adaptive cruise control and active braking) are relatively unique among SUVs in the same price range. Compared to competitors like the Honda CR-V or Toyota RAV4, the Tank 300 stands out in terms of off-road capabilities and configurations, although its brand awareness is slightly lower. It is suitable for consumers who appreciate a rugged style but also require a vehicle for daily family use, such as those who enjoy short weekend off-road trips and use the car for commuting during the week. If value for money and versatility are key considerations, the 2024 Tank 300 is a worthy choice.

In conclusion, the 2024 Tank 300 combines rugged looks, comfortable driving experience, and practical configurations, making it a well-balanced C-Segment SUV. It has no obvious shortcomings and can perform well both for urban commuting and light off-road activities. For family users or off-road enthusiasts with a budget of around 250,000 Ringgit looking for a versatile SUV, this car is worth purchasing.

Pros
2.0T+8AT power combination is smooth, quick response in urban areas, sufficient power reserve for uphill and light off-road
Solid safety configuration, active braking, lane departure warning, etc. have avoided accidents multiple times, 360-degree imaging is practical
Good interior texture, genuine leather seats with strong support, 12.3-inch dual screens are clear, Infinity sound system offers excellent audio quality
Cons
After reaching a speed of 140km/h, accelerating further becomes sluggish, and fuel consumption in urban areas is 11-13L, higher than the official rating of 9.8L
No seatbelt reminder for rear seats, and some safety assistance features (e.g., lane-keeping assist) respond slightly slowly
The wide body (1930mm) makes parking in old garages and narrow alleys inconvenient, with concerns about scratches

As the owner of the 2024 Tank 300, after driving it for almost half a year on Malaysian roads, I feel that both performance and safety deserve a score of 4 out of 5, which is a relatively satisfactory level. Starting with the performance, the 2.0T turbo with an 8AT combination feels very smooth when following traffic during rush hours in Kuala Lumpur. The throttle response is quick and doesn't feel sluggish. Occasionally on weekends, I drive up to Genting Highlands or take the mountain roads along the East Coast. The power reserve is quite sufficient when climbing hills; especially after engaging the four-wheel-drive mode, it performs very steadily on muddy rural roads (like the frequently waterlogged village road near my home) with strong grip and no skidding. However, due to its over-two-ton weight, accelerating beyond 140 km/h on the highway feels a bit strained. Additionally, the fuel consumption is indeed higher than the officially stated 9.8L. In the city, it averages around 12-13L, while on highways, it can drop to about 10L. Considering its size and four-wheel-drive system, this performance is still acceptable. In terms of safety, I think it has been done quite well. The standard six airbags, automatic braking, and lane departure warning are all in place. Once, while driving on a narrow road in George Town, Penang, a motorbike suddenly darted out, and the automatic braking system was triggered, helping me avoid a collision—it truly gave me a fright at the time. The 360-degree camera system is incredibly useful in Kuala Lumpur's impossibly tight parking lots; even the roadside curbs are clearly visible, making parking easy even for beginners. However, one small drawback is that the seat belt reminder only works for the front seats. If family members forget to buckle up in the rear, the system won’t alert them. It would be great if this could be improved. Overall, in the context of usage scenarios in Malaysia, whether for daily commuting or occasional light off-roading, the performance and safety of the Tank 300 meet expectations, and the 4 out of 5 score is well-deserved.

As the owner of the 2024 Tank 300, having driven it for almost three months, let me share my practical experience in Malaysia~ Starting with the exterior, I’d give it a score of 4 – the boxy design really fits my taste, especially the rounded headlights and vertical grille at the front. Parking at the KLCC lot, it gets tons of attention! However, I sometimes feel the body lines are too rigid, making it overly conspicuous in the narrow alleys of George Town, Penang, where I have to be extra cautious when turning – that's where some points were deducted. Safety also gets a score of 4, performing quite steadily. Last month on the North-South Expressway, there was a sudden traffic jam, and the active braking system responded quickly, helping me avoid a rear-end collision. When driving along the winding roads to Genting Highlands, the lane departure warning prompts in time, and with 6 airbags and 360-degree imaging, I feel very confident even on the bumpy roads of the East Coast. However, the seatbelt reminder only covers the front row, so I have to pay extra attention when carrying family in the back – a minor drawback. Performance deserves a full score of 5! The 2.0T turbo engine paired with the 8-speed automatic transmission is amazing for Malaysia's road conditions – with five people on board driving up to Cameron Highlands, climbing the slopes was effortless, and the turbo kicks in smoothly. During urban commutes in Kuala Lumpur, throttle response is quick, and overtaking and lane-changing are super agile. The four-wheel-drive system is the real highlight — when I went off-roading on muddy trails in rural Sabah, switching driving modes allowed me to pass through with ease, far more stable than my friend's city SUV. Overall, this car proves to be both practical and enjoyable to drive in Malaysia, and I personally find its value for money to be quite good!

As the owner of the 2024 Tank 300, I’ve been driving it in Malaysia for almost three months now, and overall, I’m quite satisfied! Let’s start with the exterior. The boxy and rugged design really draws attention. Every time I park near KLCC or go jalan-jalan (strolling around), people always turn their heads to look. However, this might be my personal aesthetic preference, but I think the chrome strips on the front could be thinner to make it look more refined, so I’d give the exterior 4 points. As for the interior, the 12.3-inch dual screens give off a strong tech vibe, and the Infinity sound system is very clear even when listening to Malay songs on the highway. However, the piano black finish on the center console tends to attract fingerprints, so I have to clean it frequently, which is a bit inconvenient. Because of this, I’d give the interior 4 points as well. In terms of performance, the 2.0T power is sufficient for both highways and national roads in Malaysia. Especially when overtaking on the East Coast Highway, the throttle response is very quick. However, in Kuala Lumpur’s city traffic jams, the fuel consumption is a bit high, around 12L, which is higher than the official 9.8L—perhaps because I drive a bit aggressively? That said, the four-wheel-drive system feels very stable on rainy days and mountain roads, so I’d confidently give the performance 4 points. All in all, the Tank 300 performs well on Malaysian roads. Rugged yet practical, though there’s still room for improvement in the details.

As the owner of the 2024 Tank 300, after driving for three months in Malaysia, I really like it more and more! First of all, the exterior deserves full marks. The square and rugged design gives it a strong presence. Driving through Kuala Lumpur, the return rate is super high. On weekends, heading to Genting Highlands or Cameron Highlands and parking by the roadside for photos is especially picturesque. My friends all say it looks like a "mini G-Wagen," so stylish. In terms of performance, I’d rate it 4 out of 5. The 2.0T engine offers plenty of power for overtaking in the city, and the 8AT transmission shifts smoothly. However, with a weight of over two tons, acceleration after 140 km/h on the highway feels a bit sluggish. But for daily commuting and occasional light off-roading, it’s absolutely fine. Last week, I went on some rainforest tracks near Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, and the four-wheel-drive system performed very steadily, handling potholes with ease. For safety features, I’d also give it 4 out of 5. It comes with six airbags, automatic emergency braking, and lane departure warning. Once, when I was stuck in traffic in George Town, Penang, the car in front of me suddenly braked hard, and the automatic emergency braking intervened just in time to prevent a collision, which was reassuring. However, the rear seatbelt reminder is only available for the front seats. It would be perfect if it included the rear as well. Overall, driving the Tank 300 in Malaysia is well-suited for both city commutes and weekend getaways. The value for money is really excellent!

As the owner of a 2024 Tank 300, after driving in Malaysia for nearly half a year, let me share my thoughts on the safety aspect first. Traffic jams are a common occurrence in Kuala Lumpur city, and there were several times when the car in front suddenly braked hard, but the autonomous emergency braking intervened in time, avoiding any rear-end collisions, which is really reassuring. Last month, I took my family to Cameron Highlands, where the mountain roads are winding and steep. The vehicle stability control and hill start assist were especially reliable, keeping the car steady while cornering and preventing it from rolling back during starts. However, there was one time on the highway when I was changing lanes, and a vehicle in the adjacent lane was a bit too close. I didn’t notice it, and the lane assist warning light came on slightly too late, which gave me a scare. If it could respond a bit quicker, that would be even better. So for safety, I’d give it a 4 out of 5. Now about the exterior, the square and rugged design really turns heads on the streets of Malaysia! Especially the army green color I chose; when parked in Georgetown, Penang, against the backdrop of colorful shophouses, it has quite an aesthetic appeal. However, there’s a small drawback—the front grille, although imposing, has fairly large gaps. After driving on some unpaved roads during a trip to Kota Kinabalu in Sabah, I found quite a bit of small stones and leaves stuck in the grille, which was a bit troublesome to clean. Overall, I am still very satisfied with the exterior, but some minor tweaks for better detail would make it perfect. So, for the exterior, I’d also give it a 4 out of 5.
