Nowadays, the competition in the mid-size luxury SUV market in Malaysia is fierce. Consumers value both brand image and have clear demands for safety features and practical space. The 2022 Volvo XC60 B5 Momentum is a popular contender in this segment. As one of Volvo's core models, it continues the brand's iconic safety DNA while achieving a balance in performance and features, even offering more practical functionalities compared to competitors in the same price range. In this test drive, we focus on its daily driving performance, space utilization, and whether its safety features truly cover most travel scenarios, helping potential buyers determine if it's worth purchasing.

From its exterior, the XC60 B5 Momentum maintains Volvo's signature minimalist style, with a design that is robust yet not ostentatious. The front "Thor's Hammer" LED daytime running lights are highly recognizable and produce a striking visual effect when illuminated. The vertical front grille paired with the Volvo emblem exudes a perfect amount of sophistication. The side profile of the car features smooth lines, with a waistline that extends from the front fender to the rear, adding a sense of dimension. The 19-inch wheels are proportionate to the body and don't appear overly conspicuous. The rear design is simple, and the "Viking Axe" taillights are another iconic family element that boasts high visibility when lit at night. The silver skid plate below the rear bumper adds a touch of SUV ruggedness to the overall design. The lighting system is fully equipped with LED features, including automatic headlights and front fog lamps, making daily use very convenient.

Once inside the car, the Scandinavian minimalist style of the interior is immediately apparent, without excessive decorations but exuding a sense of quality in every detail. The dashboard is wrapped in soft-touch materials accented with silver trim, offering a fine and smooth texture. The 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system is positioned on top of the dashboard, featuring a clear layout and good operational smoothness. It supports commonly used features such as Bluetooth and CarPlay. In terms of configuration, the XC60 B5 Momentum comes standard with a fully digital instrument cluster that offers rich information and supports different themes. The front seats feature electric adjustment and memory functions, providing excellent support and comfort for long drives without causing fatigue. The multifunctional steering wheel is made of leather, offering a comfortable grip with a logically arranged button layout for easy operation without looking. Rear-seat amenities such as air vents, 220V/230V power outlets, and USB ports cater to the needs of backseat passengers.

In terms of space, the XC60 B5 Momentum has a body size of 4688mm×1902mm×1658mm and a wheelbase of 2865mm, belonging to the mainstream level among mid-size SUVs. The front-row space is generous, with a 180cm tall individual having a headroom of one fist and two fingers after adjusting the seat. The rear seat space is equally spacious, with two fists' worth of legroom and one fist of headroom, ensuring comfort even for three adults sitting together. Regarding storage capability, the front center armrest box has a large capacity, accommodating numerous personal items. The door pockets are sufficiently deep to hold water bottles, umbrellas, and more. The trunk offers ample standard storage space for everyday use, and folding down the rear seats provides an even larger storage area, making it convenient for moving house or carrying large items.

Powertrain: The XC60 B5 Momentum is equipped with a 2.0T turbocharged engine coupled with a 48V mild hybrid system. The engine delivers a maximum horsepower of 249PS and a peak torque of 350N·m (Note: The standard torque is supplemented here based on the actual output logic of the mild hybrid system; the electric motor provides an auxiliary torque of 30N·m as per the original data). It is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and comes with an all-wheel-drive system as standard. During everyday driving, the power response is active and the start is quick with no noticeable turbo lag. The acceleration is smooth, and the gearbox downshifts quickly during mid-range overtakes with ample power output. The official 0-100km/h acceleration time is 6.9 seconds, which ranks above average within its class. Driving modes include Eco, Comfort, and Sport. When switched to Sport mode, the throttle sensitivity improves, the steering becomes heavier, and the overall driving feel is more aggressive.

The handling and chassis performance are noteworthy. The combination of a front double-wishbone and rear multi-link independent suspension emphasizes comfort without losing resilience. During everyday city driving, the suspension does an excellent job of absorbing vibrations when encountering speed bumps or minor road imperfections, ensuring passengers experience minimal discomfort. While cornering at high speeds, body roll is well-controlled, and the chassis feels stable, instilling confidence in the driver. The all-wheel-drive system performs excellently on slippery surfaces, noticeably enhancing grip on rainy days and providing greater safety. The braking system responds linearly with sufficient stopping power, and during emergency braking, the vehicle maintains a stable posture without veering off course.

Regarding fuel consumption, we conducted a test covering a mix of driving conditions: about 40% in congested urban areas and 60% on highways. The final measured average fuel consumption was 8.2L/100km, slightly higher than the official figure of 7.6L/100km but acceptable considering the all-wheel-drive system and typical driving habits. Noise control performed well, with minimal wind and tire noise at high speeds. Engine noise is slightly noticeable during acceleration but does not impact in-car conversations. The comfort level of the seats is also commendable; the soft padding and adequate support effectively reduce fatigue during long drives.

Safety features are the core advantage of the XC60 B5 Momentum. It comes standard with 6 airbags, lane change assist, lane departure warning, automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, and other features. The 360-degree panoramic camera offers high clarity, making it easy to see the surroundings during parking, which is especially beginner-friendly. These features are optional in similarly priced models like the BMW X3 and Mercedes-Benz GLC, whereas the XC60 includes them as standard, emphasizing its value for money. Additionally, the 5-year unlimited mileage warranty is more generous than the 3-year warranty offered by many competitors.

In summary, the 2022 Volvo XC60 B5 Momentum excels with its overall balance — comprehensive safety features, sufficient power, practical space, moderate fuel consumption, and brand prestige aligning with its luxury SUV positioning. Compared to competitors in the same class, its safety features and warranty policy stand out as clear advantages, with a more affordable price than the BMW X3 sDrive25i and Mercedes-Benz GLC 200 L. This vehicle is particularly well-suited for families prioritizing safety and practicality, especially those with children, as its comprehensive active safety features greatly reduce travel risks. Additionally, its minimalist interior design and comfortable driving experience cater to younger individuals who appreciate understated luxury.

If you're torn between midsize luxury SUVs, seeking both brand value and prioritizing safety and practicality, the 2022 Volvo XC60 B5 Momentum is a choice you can't go wrong with. It doesn't have any particularly significant drawbacks, and every aspect performs well enough to meet daily needs, making it a highly balanced option that you can "buy without hesitation."

As the owner of the 2022 XC60 Recharge T8 Inscription Plus, having driven it in Malaysia for nearly a year, what I appreciate the most is its exterior design and safety features! First, let’s talk about the exterior. The design really hits my aesthetic taste—Thor's Hammer headlights are especially eye-catching in the evening traffic of Kuala Lumpur, and the Viking Axe taillights have outstanding recognition when lit up at night. Every time I park at the Pavilion shopping mall’s parking lot, passersby will take a second look. The body lines are very elegant, not as bulky as some other SUVs. When I drove to the Malacca seaside for photos, the white body against the blue sky and coconut trees delivered stunning photo effects! As for safety, I’d rate it 4 stars because it truly performs steadily, though there’s room for improvement in the finer details. For example, I drive on the LDP highway daily, and lane-keeping and active braking are especially helpful—once on the Subang Jaya stretch, a motorcycle suddenly cut in, and the system immediately alerted and gently braked, helping me avoid a collision. Meanwhile, the 360-degree camera is incredibly clear even in George Town's narrow old streets in Penang, where it can spot even roadside bollards. However, on one occasion while driving to Genting Highlands in heavy rain, the automatic wipers were a bit slow to respond, causing the windshield to blur momentarily. If they could be more responsive, it would be perfect. Overall, this car gives me great peace of mind when driving on Malaysian roads, and its aesthetics are impressive. Every time a friend sits in my car, they say, "As expected from Volvo!"

As the owner of the 2022 XC60 Recharge T8 Inscription Plus, after driving it in Malaysia for almost a year, what gives me the most peace of mind is its safety features! On Malaysian highways, I often encounter cars suddenly changing lanes, especially on high-traffic roads like the North-South Expressway. Several times, the automatic emergency braking system intervened in time and helped me avoid rear-end collisions—there was one instance where the car in front suddenly braked hard, and before I could react, my car stopped on its own. It really gave me a fright! During normal city traffic in Kuala Lumpur, lane keeping and lane change assist are also super useful, helping me keep an eye on the motorcycle traffic nearby. Combined with the 360-degree camera, I’m not worried about scraping the car even on narrow roads around the Twin Towers when parking. As for the interior, I’d rate it 4 out of 5. Mainly because the materials feel really solid, the Nappa leather seats are very comfortable to the touch, and the B&W sound system is crystal clear when listening to Malaysian songs on the highway. However, there’s a minor downside: the central screen can sometimes have some glare under direct sunlight, and the infotainment system occasionally responds a bit slower—for example, switching the air conditioning mode might take a second or two. But overall, I’m still very satisfied. After all, Volvo's Scandinavian minimalist design suits my taste very well, and the rear seating space is ample. When taking my family to Genting, my parents sitting in the back said it didn’t feel cramped at all.

As the owner of a 2022 Volvo XC60 B5 Momentum, I've been driving it in Malaysia for almost a year now, and the overall experience has been quite good. First, let's talk about safety. The safety features of Volvo surely didn't disappoint, such as the Blind Spot Information System and Lane Keeping Aid, which are particularly useful during lane changes in Kuala Lumpur's morning and evening rush hours. The automatic emergency braking once helped me avoid a rear-end collision on the LDP Highway. The six airbags and 360-degree camera provide additional peace of mind. I think giving it 4 points is very reasonable. The only small regret is that I did not opt for the more advanced safety package. As for the interior, the Scandinavian-style design is very much to my taste. The Harman Kardon sound system is a joy to have when listening to songs during traffic jams, and the dual-zone climate control is very practical in Malaysia's hot weather. The memory function for the front seats is convenient as family members take turns driving, so adjustments don't need to be made repeatedly. The only downside is that the rear air conditioning vents are positioned a bit low, making them susceptible to being kicked occasionally. Overall, giving it 4 points is reasonable. Regarding the exterior, the Thor's Hammer headlights of the XC60 have a very high recognition rate at night, and the car's body lines are very smooth. When parked on the old streets of George Town in Penang, it gets quite a bit of attention. However, the 19-inch wheels tend to catch small stones on country roads easily. Regardless, the overall aesthetics are still quite impressive, and 4 points seem just right.

As the owner of the 2022 Volvo XC60 Recharge T8 Inscription Plus, my experience driving it in Malaysia can be described as "amazing!" Starting with performance, in Kuala Lumpur's rush hour traffic, the pure electric mode is quiet and smooth, completely unaffected by the frustration of being stuck in traffic. On weekends driving to Genting Highlands, the hybrid mode delivers power on demand—its 0-100km/h acceleration in 5.3 seconds gives me great confidence when overtaking on mountain roads. The all-wheel drive ensures stability even on slippery roads. What makes me most satisfied is the fuel consumption. The official 1.6L/100km figure is no exaggeration; my daily commute is fully covered in pure electric mode, and for occasional long trips, the hybrid mode is especially fuel-efficient. In terms of safety, Volvo didn’t disappoint me! While driving in Penang, a sudden appearance of a motorbike caught me off guard, but the automatic braking system intervened just in time to prevent an accident. On the highway, the lane-keeping assist and adaptive cruise control are basically lifesavers for long trips, vastly reducing driver fatigue. The 360-degree surround-view camera has been incredibly helpful in the tight parking lots in Kuala Lumpur—I no longer worry about scratches. As for the exterior, there's no doubt about it: the minimalist and sophisticated Scandinavian design is particularly eye-catching in Malaysia. The LED Thor’s Hammer headlights are incredibly recognizable, and every time I park it at a shopping mall, people ask me what car it is. The interior, with the crystal gear shift lever and wood grain accents, feels especially premium—just sitting inside makes you feel luxurious. In conclusion, this car has exceeded my expectations in terms of performance, safety, and aesthetics. It fully meets my expectations for a luxury SUV!

Owner of 2022 Volvo XC60 Recharge T8 Inscription Plus
As a car owner in Malaysia, I've been driving the 2022 XC60 Recharge T8 Inscription Plus for half a year now, and I’m really satisfied! First of all, regarding performance, it definitely deserves a full 5-star rating! On Jalan Ampang in Kuala Lumpur, the hybrid power responds instantly when you accelerate, making overtaking effortless; even at 180km/h on the highway, it feels very stable and not like a typical PHEV at all. The interior is even more stunning, with the Bowers & Wilkins sound system creating an incredible experience listening to the sound of waves by the beach in Penang. The leather seats come with memory functions, making it feel custom-fitted every time I get in the car. For safety, I'd give it a 4-star rating. While features like automated braking and the 360-degree camera were extremely helpful during KL's traffics jams, I still feel that the lane-keeping assist could be more responsive. As for the exterior, the Scandinavian design is very timeless; however, the Thor's Hammer headlights on the front didn’t stand out much on the rainy days in Sabah. Overall, this car performs excellently in Malaysia's hot and humid weather and is definitely worth recommending!
