Specs

The D-segment electric vehicle market has been attracting increasing attention locally in recent years. Consumers are no longer simply seeking range figures but rather a balance of features, space, and driving experience. The 2024 Xpeng G6 Standard Range enters this market with a price tag of RM 165,820, highlighting its core selling points: a long wheelbase for spacious interiors, fully equipped comfort configurations, and the performance delivered by a 190kW rear-drive motor. The purpose of this test drive is to evaluate its real-world performance in daily commuting and family travel scenarios to see if it can differentiate itself from other models at a similar price point.

In terms of appearance, the overall style of the Xpeng G6 Standard Range leans towards a minimalistic tech vibe, without overly complex lines. The front features a closed design, with a distinctive full-width LED light strip characteristic of Xpeng, offering high recognizability when illuminated. The air intake below the front bumper is moderately sized, complemented by air ducts on both sides, which add to the sporty look visually. The side profile of the car features smooth lines, with a fastback design stretching from the A-pillar to the rear, giving the body a more extended appearance. The 20-inch rims paired with 255/45 R20 tires neatly fill the wheel arches, resulting in a steady and composed stance. At the rear, the full-width taillights echo the design of the front, with clear internal light arrangements. The spoiler adopts a hidden design, maintaining the overall simplicity, while the diffuser-style rear bumper adds a sporty touch. In terms of lighting systems, the brightness of the LED headlights and taillights is sufficient, providing clear visibility for night driving.

Upon opening the door, the interior offers an immediate impression of being minimalistic yet high-quality. The dashboard features a layered design, with the upper part covered in soft-touch materials, offering a fine texture. In the center is a 14.96-inch floating touchscreen with high resolution and smooth operation. The multifunctional steering wheel has controls for driving assistance on the left and multimedia controls on the right, with crisp button feedback. The manually adjustable range is sufficient to suit drivers of different heights. The instrument cluster is fully digital with a moderate size, clearly displaying information such as speed, range, and driving assistance status. As for the features, the front seats support six-way electric adjustment with four-way lumbar support, as well as heating and ventilation functions. The rear seats also come with a heating feature and adjustable backrest angles, ensuring comfort even during long rides. The intelligent system embedded in the central screen supports voice control and can handle navigation, adjust the air conditioning, open the sunroof, and more, making it highly practical.

In terms of space performance, the Xpeng G6 Standard Range has a body size of 4753mm × 1920mm × 1650mm and a wheelbase of 2890mm, which places it in the upper tier among D-segment vehicles. The front row offers ample space, with a 175cm-tall driver having an additional space of a fist and two fingers above their head after adjusting the seat. The rear space is even more impressive, allowing a passenger of the same height to have over two fists of legroom and one fist of headroom. Even when the middle seat is occupied, it doesn’t feel crowded. In terms of storage, the trunk has a capacity of 571L, which is sufficient for holding three 20-inch suitcases with ease. The rear seats can be folded down in a 60:40 ratio, creating additional storage space for moving or carrying large items. There are also plenty of storage compartments inside the cabin: the front center armrest has a large storage box, the door panels have storage slots big enough for two bottles of water, and the location of the wireless phone charging pad is very convenient.

In terms of power, the XPeng G6 Standard Range is equipped with a 190kW permanent magnet synchronous rear-wheel drive motor, with a maximum torque of 440N·m and an official 0-100km/h acceleration time of 6.6 seconds. During actual driving, the power response at the start is very immediate, and a slight press on the accelerator pedal delivers a noticeable push-back feeling. The mid-to-late acceleration is not weak either; when overtaking, a deeper press on the accelerator results in the power catching up quickly. Even when accelerating again at a speed of 120km/h on the highway, sufficient power reserves are still felt. There are three driving modes to choose from: Eco, Standard, and Sport. In Eco mode, the power output is relatively smooth, making it suitable for daily commuting; in Sport mode, the throttle response is more sensitive and the power output more aggressive, which appeals to users seeking driving fun.

The handling and chassis performance exceeded expectations. The steering wheel is precise, with minimal play, and offers moderate resistance when turning, feeling light at low speeds and stable at high speeds. The front suspension adopts a double-wishbone independent suspension, while the rear suspension is a multi-link independent suspension. This suspension combination performs well when dealing with bumpy roads. It effectively filters out most vibrations when passing over speed bumps or rough roads, providing a comfortable ride without significant jolts. When cornering, the body roll is well controlled, and the suspension offers sufficient support, giving confidence to the driver. During daily driving, the chassis feels integrated and does not come across as loose.

In terms of range and energy consumption, the official pure electric range is 435km, with a battery capacity of 66kWh. In our mixed road condition test, which included 30% highway, 50% city roads, and 20% rural roads, with the air conditioning set to 24°C in automatic mode, the actual range achieved was approximately 390km, translating to a realization rate of nearly 90%. This performance ranks in the upper-middle level among electric vehicles of the same class. Energy consumption was approximately 15.3kWh/100km under mixed road conditions. On highways, the energy consumption slightly increased to about 17kWh/100km, while city roads averaged approximately 14kWh/100km. In terms of charging speed, fast charging from 30% to 80% takes around 20 minutes, and slow charging to full battery takes 7.5 hours. Daily usage can generally be supported by fast charging.

When it comes to ride comfort, the noise control is well-handled. At high speeds, wind noise and tire noise are not obvious, and only when the speed exceeds 130km/h does the wind noise become slightly more noticeable, but it does not affect in-car conversation. The seats are very comfortable, with both the front and rear seats having padding that strikes a balance between softness and firmness and provides good support. Long durations of sitting do not feel tiring. The energy recovery system is adjustable in three levels: at the lowest level, the deceleration force when releasing the accelerator is weak, offering an experience very similar to driving a fuel-powered vehicle; at the highest level, the deceleration force is noticeable, reducing the frequency of braking required, which is suitable for traffic-congested urban roads.

In conclusion, the XPeng G6 Standard Range showcases clear core advantages: its 2890mm long wheelbase provides a spacious interior, the fully equipped comfort features (heated/ventilated seats, rear seat heating, an 18-speaker audio system) enhance the riding experience, the 190kW rear-drive motor offers abundant performance, the range realization rate is high, and charging speeds are fast. Compared to similarly priced Model Y Standard Range, the XPeng G6 Standard Range offers richer configurations and larger space; compared to the BYD Tang EV Standard Range, it delivers stronger performance and a better driving experience.

This car is clearly suitable for: family users who value space and comfort, consumers who need daily commuting and weekend family outings; young people who pursue technological features and driving experience, as it can meet their demands for smart systems and performance. It is well-suited for daily commuting, family outings, short-distance road trips, and other scenarios.

Overall, the XPeng G6 Standard Range is a very well-balanced D-segment electric vehicle with no significant weaknesses in terms of space, features, performance, or range. Its price of RM 165,820 is also very competitive, making it one of the models worth considering in this price range.

Owner of 2024 Xpeng G6 Long Range
As the owner of the 2024 XPeng G6 Long-Range version, having driven it in Malaysia for three months, my overall experience has been surprisingly delightful! The exterior deserves a full score—the streamlined coupe SUV design and the through-type tail lights are particularly eye-catching in Kuala Lumpur's night traffic. Every time I park near the Twin Towers, people come over and ask what car this is, the head-turning rate is absolutely off the charts. In terms of performance, I give it 4 out of 5. It's more than adequate for daily drives on highways and national roads in Selangor. The 6.2-second acceleration is ultra-smooth when starting at red lights, and the rear-wheel-drive adjustment feels very stable when cornering. However, when encountering continuous sharp bends, like those in Penang, the car's high center of gravity does cause some body roll, but it's completely fine for family use. The 570km range is super practical in Malaysia. For example, a round trip from Kuala Lumpur to Malacca doesn't require recharging. With fast charging, you can top up 80% in just 30 minutes, saving a lot more time compared to my previous petrol car. I also have to compliment the safety features. The 7 airbags combined with the full suite of active safety systems are great. Last time, on the highway in Johor, the automatic emergency braking intervened just in time to prevent a rear-end collision when the car in front braked suddenly. The ACC adaptive cruise control makes driving long distances on the North-South Expressway especially relaxing. However, the auto parking feature struggles sometimes to recognize those irregular roadside parking spaces in Malaysia, requiring manual adjustments, so I give it 4 out of 5. Overall, this car is both stylish and practical to drive on Malaysian roads, making it very suitable for families like ours who often travel across states!

Owner of 2024 Xpeng G6 Standard Range
As the owner of the 2024 Xpeng G6 Standard Range, after driving for three months in Malaysia, I am truly amazed by the performance of this car! Let’s talk about the interior first. The 14.96-inch central screen operates smoothly, and the XPENG XOPERA audio system is fantastic. Every time I drive through the old streets of George Town in Penang, playing some local songs feels just like attending a live concert. The seats come with heating and ventilation functions, making it comfortable even during the hot summers in Kuala Lumpur; it cools down quickly when you get inside. The rear seats also have heating, so when taking my family to Cameron Highlands, both the elderly and kids feel comfortable. The safety features give me great peace of mind. With seven airbags and a 360-degree panoramic view, it is especially practical when stuck in traffic or searching for parking spots in Kuala Lumpur's city center. The active braking and lane departure warning systems are also very responsive. One time on the North-South Expressway, I almost collided with the car in front, but the system immediately alerted me and automatically braked, truly saving me. In terms of performance, even though it’s the standard range version, the power is more than enough. The acceleration of 6.6 seconds makes overtaking on the highway easy, and the rear-wheel drive provides excellent handling, keeping the car stable when cornering. The battery fast charging takes only about 20 minutes. When going to Genting Highlands, just a short charging stop at the service area allows me to continue the journey without worrying about range. Overall, the experience of using this car in Malaysia has been fantastic. The interior is luxurious, safety features are reliable, and performance is outstanding, fully meeting my expectations!

Owner of 2024 Xpeng G6 Standard Range
As the owner of the 2024 Xpeng G6 Standard Range and having driven it for almost three months in Malaysia, I like it more and more every day! The exterior definitely gets full marks. The fastback design combined with the full-width LED taillights gives it amazing road presence in Kuala Lumpur’s evening traffic. Every time I park at Pavilion, people come over to ask what car this is. The interior also scores 5 out of 5. The 14.96-inch central control screen operates smoothly, and the ventilated and heated front seats are incredibly practical in Malaysia's hot and humid weather. The rear space is quite roomy too. When taking family trips to Genting Highlands on the weekend, my parents sitting in the back said it wasn't cramped at all. In terms of performance, I would give it 4 stars. It's more than adequate for daily city commuting, with a 0-100km/h acceleration of 6.6 seconds, making overtaking very easy. However, when climbing up Cameron Highlands last time, I felt the rear-wheel drive’s power output was a bit lacking, especially when the car was fully loaded. But overall, I’m still very satisfied. After all, driving an electric vehicle in Malaysia is becoming increasingly convenient, with fast charging allowing an 80% charge in just 30 minutes, which doesn’t disrupt daily use at all.

Owner of 2024 Xpeng G6 Standard Range
As the owner of the 2024 XPeng G6 Standard Range Version, after driving in Malaysia for over two months, my most direct impression is that this car is incredibly suited to the local road conditions! The exterior deserves full marks; the streamlined body paired with frameless doors ensures that every time I park near KLCC or in the old streets of George Town, Penang, the turning heads are all maxed out—standing out in a sea of Japanese cars with such a tech-forward design. I'll give the interior a 4 out of 5. The overall craftsmanship and materials are on point, and the leather seats with ventilation and heating are especially practical in Kuala Lumpur's muggy weather. Switching on the ventilation upon entering the car cools it down in just a few minutes. However, a minor downside is that the central control screen sometimes lags, particularly when switching between navigation and music. I hope future OTA updates will improve this. Safety-wise, I'll also rate it 4 out of 5. The active braking and lane-keeping systems were a great help on the highways in Malacca—local drivers often change lanes suddenly, and this system responds promptly, providing early warnings or even applying automatic brakes. The seven airbags and 360-degree camera give me more confidence when reversing on Kuala Lumpur's narrow one-way streets. The only pity is that the lane-change assist warning sound is a bit faint—sometimes it gets drowned out when the music is playing. Overall, as a ride for daily commutes and weekend family trips to Genting, the performance of the G6 has far exceeded expectations!

Owner of 2024 Xpeng G6 Long Range
As a G6 Long Range Edition owner who has driven for three months in Kuala Lumpur, let me talk about safety first – giving it 4 stars because it’s really sufficient but hasn’t reached the “wow” level. For example, on my daily commute along the LDP highway, when there are more cars, the lane change assist provides beeping alerts. Once in Subang Jaya, a car suddenly cut in, and the automatic braking stopped the car for me, which really saved me. However, one time driving at night on a rural road, the lane departure warning didn’t seem to respond in time, maybe due to poor lighting on the road? Overall, features like 7 airbags and 360-degree cameras make me feel quite secure, especially with Malaysia’s rainy and slippery roads. As for performance, I also give it 4 stars. After all, it's a rear-wheel-drive version. When driving on Penang’s mountain roads, the cornering support is so much better than my previous fuel car. The 6.2-second acceleration is particularly satisfying for overtaking trucks on the highway; just one press on the accelerator, and it leaps forward. However, last weekend, when taking the whole family to Genting, I felt the power was a bit lacking while climbing mid-hill, probably due to being fully loaded and the steep incline? During city driving, the electric motor responds very quickly. Even in traffic jams, following cars is effortless. The 570km range is sufficient for a round trip to Johor in Malaysia, and a quick charge takes just 30 minutes to refill up to 80%, so there’s no need to worry about range anxiety. Overall, the performance in both aspects is decent, and it’s more than enough for daily use!
