【PCauto】Chinese automaker BYD and its premium sub-brand DENZA have surpassed a combined sales milestone of 20,000 units in Malaysia. This achievement cements BYD Group’s position as the best-selling electric vehicle brand in Malaysia for three consecutive years.
In the first half of this year, BYD’s total sales reached 6,015 units
According to sales data from January to June 2025, the BYD brand sold 6,015 vehicles, with the Sealion 7 leading at 1,960 units, followed closely by the popular Atto 3 with 1,701 units sold. Meanwhile, the premium brand DENZA contributed 615 units to the total.

BYD’s Best-Selling Model in Malaysia
As BYD’s top-selling model in Malaysia, the Sealion 7 primarily competes with the Tesla Model Y. Measuring 4,830 mm in length, 1,925 mm in width, 1,620 mm in height, and with a wheelbase of 2,930 mm, the Sealion 7 offers advantages over the Tesla Model Y in all these dimensions.

The interior design and features of the BYD Sealion 7 are more comprehensive compared to the Model Y. The Sealion 7 is equipped with a 15.6-inch intelligent rotating touchscreen and 12 DYNAUDIO-branded speakers, delivering an outstanding entertainment experience.

Regarding seating, the BYD Sealion 7 offers 8-way power adjustment for the driver’s seat, while the front passenger and rear seats support 6-way power adjustment, ensuring comfort during long drives. Additionally, the vehicle is equipped with convenient features such as automatic climate control, a power sunroof, and automatic windshield wipers, enhancing the overall driving experience.

Currently, the BYD Sealion 7 is available in two versions: Premium and Performance. The Premium version is priced at RM 183,800, while the Performance version retails for RM 199,800.
The Premium model features a single rear-mounted electric motor, delivering 313 horsepower and 380 Nm of torque, with a 0–100 km/h acceleration time of 6.7 seconds.
The Performance variant is equipped with dual motors at the front and rear, producing a combined output of 530 horsepower and 690 Nm of torque, achieving 0–100 km/h in just 4.5 seconds.

To celebrate the milestone, BYD is offering special promotions
In August, DENZA is launching a limited-time campaign for the D9 model.
Customers who purchase the D9 during this period will receive an exclusive gift package worth 5,000 MYR, including premium interior upgrades and other luxury features.

As DENZA’s flagship model, the D9 excels in product features. It comes equipped with second-row business-class seats that support a 10-point massage function and feature individual touchscreens. Additionally, the vehicle includes an onboard refrigerator and a 15.6-inch central touchscreen.

The powertrain features a 103.6 kWh blade battery pack, with the front-wheel-drive version offering an NEDC range of up to 600 kilometers. The all-wheel-drive variant delivers a maximum output of 374 horsepower. Currently, the model is priced starting from 259,000 MYR in the Malaysian market.

BYD Plans to Further Boost Brand Sales
In April 2025, DENZA ranked third in Malaysia’s electric vehicle market with sales of 157 units, surpassing competitors such as the Xpeng X9 and Zeekr 009.
To support ongoing sales growth, BYD’s dealer network in Malaysia plans to expand its service outlets to 60 locations by 2026, enhancing after-sales support capabilities.
From August 20 to 24, DENZA will hold roadshow events at showrooms in four major Malaysian cities, including IOI City Mall, allowing more consumers to experience the D9 model up close.

BYD Group’s success in the Malaysian market can be attributed not only to its comprehensive product lineup but also to its localized marketing strategies. With the continuous improvement of electric vehicle infrastructure, Malaysia is poised to become a key electric vehicle market in Southeast Asia.

BYD said that the Japanese government discriminates, giving Toyota, Tesla, and other competitors more subsidies.
With the Japanese government's official implementation of the 2026 "Clean Energy Vehicle Subsidy Program" (CEV Subsidy Program), the subsidy amount received by BYD models has formed a huge gap compared to other local brands. After factoring in subsidies, the originally higher-priced Toyota bZ4X is even cheaper than the BYD Atto 3, causing BYD to lose its pricing advantage in the local market.
