As China's largest new energy vehicle manufacturer, BYD has once again delivered an eye-catching sales report. It announced its May sales to the public on 2 June. The data shows that in May 2024, the number of BYD's car sales reached 331,817, a year-on-year increase of 38.13 per cent, and a slight increase of 5.93 per cent from the previous year. And the cumulative sales in the first five months of 2024 amounted to 1,271,325 units, a year-on-year increase of 26.80 per cent.

BYD has taken an absolute leading position in the new energy vehicle market. It lays out four major brands including BYD brand, DENZA, Fangchengbao and Yangwang to cover a wide range of market needs.
On May 10, BYD Sea Lion 07 EV was officially launched with 4 models and a price range of RMB 189,800-239,800. The Sea Lion 07 EV, based on the BYDe 3.0 Evo platform and equipped with L2+ advanced intelligent driving assistance functions, further enhances the user's driving experience and safety performance.

On May 28, BYD held a technology conference in Xi'an, China, introducing its revolutionary fifth-generation DM technology. The Chairman of BYD Wang Chuanfu stated at the conference that the fifth-generation DM technology achieves a thermal efficiency of 46.06% for the engine, fuel consumption of 2.9 litres per 100 kilometres, and a combined range of 2,100 kilometres.
On the same day, BYD also launched two new cars equipped with the technology ——QIN L DM-i and Seal 06 DM-i. The two new vehicles, which are available for immediate delivery, adopt a dual-vehicle, same-price strategy, and both launch five models. Their price range is RMB99,800 - RMB139,800, which has caused a sensation in the auto industry after its announcement.
According to the plan, BYD has set its sales target for 2024 at 4.5-5 million units, which is 1.5-2 million units more than its 2023 target of 3 million units. However, with the expanding electrified market bringing more new challenges, the car market will be more competitive in 2024. It remains to be seen whether the launch of more new cars will bring further sales growth for BYD.
