[PCauto] As BYD's most successful global pure electric SUV, Yuan PLUS (Atto 3) has dominated the home electric vehicle market in multiple countries since its launch, owing to its balanced and comprehensive appeal.
Recently, China's MIIT unveiled the latest regulatory documents for new cars, officially revealing the full details of the next-generation Yuan PLUS. Instead of calling it a mid-cycle facelift, it’s more accurate to label it a complete evolution. The new model boasts significant size increases, alongside next-generation upgrades to its chassis and battery technology.
Significant Size Growth
According to the declaration information, the most direct change in the next-generation Yuan PLUS lies in its dimensions.
The dimensions of the new car:
Length 4665 mm
Width 1895 mm
Height 1675 mm
Wheelbase has also been extended to 2770 mm.
For comparison, the length of the current model is only 4455 mm. This means the new car is 210 mm longer in length, and its wheelbase is extended by 50 mm.
This leap in dimensions allows Yuan PLUS to completely shed its previous slightly cramped feel.
The increased length is expected to significantly improve legroom for rear-seat passengers and the luggage compartment’s loading capacity, giving the car stronger practical spatial advantages.
In terms of exterior design, the new model continues the Dragon Face family design language, but the overall lines are flatter and full of tension. The silver front grille is connected to the sharp black headlights, creating a lower visual focus and a stronger sense of sportiness.
Upgraded to Rear-Wheel Drive and 800V Electrical Architecture
If the size changes are aimed at appealing to family users, then the upgrades to the chassis and power system represent BYD's declaration of its technological leadership once again.
Based on information regarding the motor layout and chassis details, the industry widely speculates that the next-generation Yuan PLUS will abandon the current front-wheel-drive configuration in favor of adopting a brand-new rear-wheel-drive pure electric platform.
The new car offers two motor power options, with peak power of 200kW and 240kW respectively.
Compared to the current 150kW power, the performance improvement is exceptionally significant, and the performance of the top version can even rival some pure electric sports sedans focusing on sporty performance.
What’s even more exciting is that the new car is expected to be equipped with BYD's latest second-generation Blade Battery technology and paired with an 800V high-voltage architecture.
While most family EVs still rely on 400V architecture, the new Yuan PLUS introduces "Flash Charging" technology, reportedly capable of taking the battery from 10% to 70% in just five minutes.
This transformative improvement in charging efficiency will greatly alleviate range anxiety during long-distance trips and is a key factor in BYD's attempt to differentiate itself from competitors in terms of technology.

Intelligent Driving Integration and Pricing
In terms of intelligent configuration, the laser radar evident in the document suggests that BYD is extending the City Navigation Driving (NOA) feature, originally reserved for high-end brands, to the Yuan PLUS level.
For a model targeting the mainstream consumer market, the addition of laser radar means it will have a higher ceiling in active safety and advanced driver assistance systems.
In the Chinese market, the price of the all-new Yuan PLUS is expected to remain between 130,000 and 160,000 RMB (approximately equivalent to 74,000 to 92,000 MYR).
